Shit, trying to leverage the power of a desktop to figure out how to structure an organized response to all the feedback...
I love Pi’s voice!! So chilled out.
I'm with
System .
🤯 sounds so mellow and chill! Great voice for
radio..err...podcasts.
Two things... the voice is never what I expect, but at the same time it
sounds like a dude who likes stuff so maybe.
Everyone so far sounds exactly as I'd expect them to. Easy-going likes everything pi, yeah I wasn't surprised by the Teddy from Table 19 vibes. Maybe more Cooper from Black Mirror to be precise.
This was my biggest fear! You know how like none of us ever really know what we sound like to others? Like, we have what we sound like to us in our heads and our own ears because of how our voices reverberate through our own bodies, jawbones, etc. --and how that is rarely if ever how we ACTUALLY sound to others? Has ALWAYS been a hang-up for me. Like major hang-up. To the point where I hate singing, speaking, etc. --ESPECIALLY in contexts where I'll be recorded. And anytime my voice is/has been recorded (like a voicemail) I'll REFUSE to listen to it back out of embarrassment. No idea where this hang-up stems from.
Couple that personal hang-up with something @ness touched on: I'm always nervous to hear what posters actually sound like or see what they look like... more for fear of it not aligning with expectations in my mind, and fear of how that might change my perception of the poster. It's kinda like really loving a band, in particular a lead singer... and then you finally learn what he or she looks like, and it ruins everything even though it shouldn't. As far as the bold part of @ness' comment... still can't tell if that's a gummy jab, or a like button jab... I'm still coming for your crown, Mr. Most Downloads. -_-
And
Baker's dimes!
This also proves PI's status as a draw. Will part with dimes for PI.
ANYWAY--
SOOO... All of that preamble ramble out of the way, I was happy to learn I didn't sounds like hot garbled garbage to all y'all! And in fact, I did something I wasn't planning on doing: I listened to the episode! And, being as objective as I can be, I really enjoyed it --both as a listener, and as a guest;
pduh, I don't know about you amigo but I felt like we clicked. I'll agree with the comment that it felt like just two PW buddies chillin' on a Friday night.
BUT--
Biggest take away from above comments is the revelation
Big Pete has seen Table 19!?!? And now I feel like I need to look into Black Mirror and this Cooper character. Black Mirror has always been on the list of shows to check out. Seems interesting. But, wait WHAT!? Hold the phone,
Big Pete has seen Table 19!?!?!?
Listening now. Will probably be about a half hour in when this post is done. Loving it!
Loved this podcast, I’ve never met either of you but it just felt like hanging with PW Friends.
What a home-run edition of the "Slice of pi". Was a fun conversation to listen into and it highlighted just how different everybody's passion for wrestling is different. Like pi, I totally thought the t-shirt story was leading to a Big Show chokeslam, that's the downside of some wrestling fans, some of them are just jerks.
Honestly, I was trepidatious headed into this thing. All the false starts and the counter-hype of my perpetual cold feet... I felt like there was gonna be a lot of pressure. And then when the "ON AIR" light came on, all the pressure faded.
pduh is an awesome host and a total pro. Made me feel at ease, right at home, and I think help ensure that "hanging with PW Friends" vibe. Ultimately, that was my goal too. Just a hangout sesh. And it was so fun, relaxing, rewarding... I'd seriously do it again in a heartbeat,
pduh.
Now that my nervous nellies have been exorcised too, I'd also gladly hop on to some sort of Zoom #NWAPOWERRR Parrrty w/
Baker &
@admin & etc. But apparently not w/
System [*] though I'd gladly chill with
System any day to talk shop about whatever else.

- I enjoyed the first few episodes of NWA Power and then I’d watch it it would be 90% interviews & clips so I stopped watching.
It's ALWAYS 90% interviews and clips! What are/were you expecting?! C'mon, bro. BOO!
Omg. Dying at
KING KID conspiracy theory. #KidMcMahon
Honestly, if the conspiracy isn't true, I'm still MORE surprised
KING KID never booked an angle in his ol' KWF where he revealed himself as Vince's bastard son. The key though would've been for
KING KID to book such an angle prior to 2007. Otherwise, he couldn't claim WWE was stealing his idea... which would be so un-
KING KID.
WALTER Disney: Coming to a fan fic project near you.
WALTER Disney.
DEDSRS (to steal a @ness-ism): Would continue to watch current modern era wrestling if Disney buys out WWE and rebrands WALTER as WALTER Disney and makes him the face of the company. Anyone who wants to lay out a plan for a future in which that is the reality, you're more than welcome to use the IP and flesh something out in fan fiction. You'll have a guaranteed reader in me. And speaking of things I guarantee I'd read...
Disney Princess division!
@ness-- If this isn't something you're up to the task to do... guess we need to go find Greg.
Speaking of Greg and thinking of ol' PW...
Message Boards were definitely more intense back in the day. It's gotten a lot better.
- I agree how heated old PW was & how different it is compared to now. I remember people vocally hated RVD for being a spot monkey and now he’s pretty well liked overall. Same with John Cena..so it was interesting watching the same thing happen all over again with Roman Reigns with younger fans.
Kind of crazy that pi and I were lurking around the same time, I might have missed it but when did pi come about? Also couldn't believe you were the Original Number One and you didn't try to sue Nobi for copyright infringement. Maybe that was behind the micro-aggressive like that pushed Nobi away?
Honestly, despite the drop in members and activity, I think I like our new PW more than the old one. The old one could get sooo heated and dramatic. Maybe it's just a consequence of me getting older, lazier, calmers... or our community having such continuity and close-knit-ness... or by this point, everyone has calibrated how to behave on the internet without every other thread turning into a flame war... but, man, I dunno; I'm good with where we're at these days.
Although, that said, I do miss some of the ol' shit-stirs from back in the day like The Industry. Also, cooliomcawesomene always seemed like such a knowledgeable apple. I miss his posts.
Big Pete, I can't pinpoint when for sure I converted to
🤯. If I had to guess... 2004? I feel like I found an old fan fiction project on the Wayback Machine from 2003 that I posted as #1Fan!. And I don't think my run as #1Fan! lasted for more than a year. That run would've also been YEARS before
shinobimusashi popped up, I'm pretty sure. I also never had beef with him. So I'm still bewildered by my role in his sudden departure. If we have beef, it's only one-way beef... and I'm willing to eat the beef and have a heaping pile of seconds if it means Shin comes back.
Consequence of the internet message board life, I guess. Things get lost in translation. Then we lose people.
- The WM19 Kurt/Lesnar match was so underwhelming. The most frustrating part is he would have cleared the SSP if he did it from a normal distance..impressive enough without having Angle so far away. I watched it on DVD not live so that also dampened my enjoyment.
I have always wondered if my enjoyment was thrown off only by the botched SSP... but honestly, I think there was more at play:
- The booking leading up to the match was screwy, largely because of Kurt's glass neck. I think there were genuine concerns he wouldn't be able to go. I vaguely recall rumors of WWE considering alternates to slot in for Kurt if he wasn't able to go. They ran that screwy switcheroo with Eric Angle just before 'Mania too, which too some wind out of my sails.
- Then I think the match itself was hurt somewhat by card position and the face/heel dynamic. In real time, I remember being pretty close to burnout by the time Austin/Rock III started. I recall feeling like things were happening in this exhausted blur from the start of that match onward. So Kurt/Brock were fighting fatigue out of the gate.
- Regarding the face/heel dynamic, in hindsight, I feel like Kurt playing this injured veteran with the better amateur accolades stepping up as the humble hero to hopefully thwart unstoppable monster Brock would've made for a more compelling story. Then you can use Kurt's injured neck as part of the story, build legitimate doubt if Kurt will even be able to wrestle... if he'll even make it to 'Mania. Build sympathy for him. Then you're cringing with every German, etc. Brock hits on poor Kurt. Also makes the botched/avoided SSP work better, as the hubris of young cocky monster heel champ Brock gets the better of him. It's WWE main event style, so presumably Kurt HAS to win with a finisher... but if I had 100% control, Kurt is winning in surprise fashion with an inside cradle or similar pinfall out of nowhere based on the strength of his superior wrestling technique. As a loyal solider for WWE, Kurt gets his "thank you" WrestleMania world title win. However, given the condition of his neck and the style of the finish... Kurt won the battle but lost the war. Brock did enough damage, Kurt needs surgery. So Kurt vacates the title, we get that tournament for the number one contender like real life... but now it becomes for the vacant title. But monster heel Brock, citing both his rematch clause and the fact he KILLED Kurt, argues he doesn't need to participate in the tournament and has more rightful claim to the title than anyone else. Blah blah blah... ***
[***Now I got all distracted with fantasy rebooking I should save for a different thread.]
Marked out for Pduh with the AWA, USWA, and GWF mentions.
Cool Pduh story about seeing Bret/Flair a few days before Flair's famous Raw match with Mr. Perfect.
Just got to the part where PI said "Wrestling fans can be a mixed bag." *nods in agreement*
Yeah man,
pduh totally caught me off guard with the breadth and depth of his pro wrestling fandom! Had I known he was so into so many different promotions, I feel like we could do separate deep dives picking his brain about favorite wrestlers, angles, etc. from the various promotions. And the coolest "hey, I recognize that guy!" moments he recalls from when wrestlers recognized from elsewhere would debut in the WWF.
And in a similar vein, I had no idea
pduh attended so many live events. A little jealous of that, especially considering some of the cool stories he shared. It's just a shame the cool stories have to every so often be tampered (tempered?) by shit stories of asshole fans being assholes. Keeping that mixed bag mixed. Oh well, just like the wrestling product itself... guess we gotta take the good with the bad to fully indulge in the medium we love.
- $5 USD in 1990 is worth $9.87 today, what interest rate was it?
If you ever place a pro wrestling bet with me, I'll forego inflation and instead charge 100% compounding interest. Strictly business! #StrictBiz
Loving the stories about you guys wrestling as kids and practicing moves in the swimming pool. Can relate. Watch out for that ceiling
🤯 !
"Piledrive the cat"
Maybe I hate Dean Ambrose so much because he'd always complain about not being able to break through the glass ceiling. Maybe that whiny lil bitch just never thought to hit the ceiling with his head? Worked for me!
At least the cat's got claws to fight back with. Baby PI stands no chance of being anything more than a defensless pile of goo taking chokeslams and powerbombs!
PI's early wrestling opinions fit his mellow & chill personality. "I liked everybody."
Hit that "LIKE!" button, babay!!~
