Yep, 10 hours from now is roughly 12pm for me so I got the times right.

Yes. My producer (a.k.a. Wife) was giving me the old Kristen-Stone Cold go-home cue so I didn't spend hours on a Friday night with pduh instead of her.

In the morning, before she wakes up, I got all the time in the world to post my heart's content out.

Then again, I was admittedly self-conscious no one would want to listen to me ramble for too long. It's not like I'm a Prichard. Plus, I didn't want to kill pduh's territory.

Honestly, despite the drop in members and activity, I think I like our new PW more than the old one. The old one could get sooo heated and dramatic. Maybe it's just a consequence of me getting older, lazier, calmers... or our community having such continuity and close-knit-ness... or by this point, everyone has calibrated how to behave on the internet without every other thread turning into a flame war... but, man, I dunno; I'm good with where we're at these days.

You raise a great point, a lot of posters had really strange dispositions that almost seemed gimmicky and wouldn’t work on a smaller board.


I also originally joined PW under many different aliase. Originally I was Utopian..then I was SledgeHHHammer,StratusMark and a variety of jobber names before I settled on System. I joined when I was 14 and I’m 29 now with most posters being older than I am so I definitely agree age plays into it..hard to have a long drawn out debate over who has the better work rate between Flair and Bret Hart when people have adult stuff to do (before Covid at least)

BUT--
Biggest take away from above comments is the revelation Big Pete has seen Table 19!?!? And now I feel like I need to look into Black Mirror and this Cooper character. Black Mirror has always been on the list of shows to check out. Seems interesting. But, wait WHAT!? Hold the phone, Big Pete has seen Table 19!?!?!?

I was trying to keep that card close to my vest for the inevitable countdown, but I've been sprung. After doing my live reactions post to the trailer, I came to discover it was a massive bait and switch and completely subverts everything it sets up.

All in all, a perfectly cromulent Breakfast Club remake. I loved the cast and the 80s wedding band was the clincher - Thompson Twins forever!

As far as Black Mirror, since it's an anthology show you can start anywhere. I'd recommend starting with Season 3, the Wyatt Russell (Cooper) episode is the second episode but the first four episodes are the best episodes the show has to offer. I only got into it last year, but I was hooked and I think you'll get a kick out of the first episode of the season three.

Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention, but everything seemed pretty peaceful by the time I joined in 2008-ish. Granted it's been over a decade and I wasn't paying close attention to everything, but the reason I gravitated towards PW is because of the constructive arguments and how they would usually elevate both sides view points. There were actual fans here who had their own thoughts, they weren't just going along with the crowd and anyone who did would be pulled up on it.

Every now and then somebody would drunk post and take things too far but even then I found 90% of their stuff funny.

Although, that said, I do miss some of the ol' shit-stirs from back in the day like The Industry. Also, cooliomcawesomene always seemed like such a knowledgeable apple. I miss his posts.

The Industry was a definite draw to PW. He was like the Skip Bayliss, ridiculously over the top hyperbolic opinions, except they seemed to come from a genuine place and he could explain himself. coolio must have been before my time.

My main memory of PW was the Jersey Shore crew cheering their boys on in the Party threads and running into the likes of Darth Caedus, MOGUNS and that dude with the baby avatar. Maybe that was the other Kid poster? Anyways as an outsider it always seemed like there was all these double crosses going along, with Benson being tight with the crew one moment and then getting full of himself and getting tossed aside the next. Again my memory could be faulty, but the inter-forum politics were interesting.

I also remember there was a massive divide between the north side and south side of the board. Being north side was like being at the kiddies table, southside had more adult conversations, but also the odd drama from time to time. Back then vendrell was my MVP of the board, I'd always look forward to his musings and he seems like a real interesting guy.

Big Pete, I can't pinpoint when for sure I converted to 𝓹𝓲. If I had to guess... 2004? I feel like I found an old fan fiction project on the Wayback Machine from 2003 that I posted as #1Fan!. And I don't think my run as #1Fan! lasted for more than a year. That run would've also been YEARS before shinobimusashi popped up, I'm pretty sure. I also never had beef with him. So I'm still bewildered by my role in his sudden departure. If we have beef, it's only one-way beef... and I'm willing to eat the beef and have a heaping pile of seconds if it means Shin comes back.

I'm just busting balls when it comes to Nobi. I miss that dude though and hope he misses us enough to stop by at some point and talk SEGA, Football and oldschool ROH.

See, I thought all these gimmick changes happened over a longer time period. It doesn't feel like we really interacted until you pulled a Macho Man Randy Savage and starting bringing your wife to work or so to speak and that doesn't feel that long ago - it gave me the impression you may have been going by a different user. Where were you usually hanging circa 2010-13? Fan Fic? Entertainment?

A couple more notes from the podcast...

- Loved the PW references that may have gone over people's heads. Chicken noodle soup for the soul being the stand-out, well-played pi.

- Was surprised by the Brock Lesnar/Kurt Angle admission. I can understand the disappointment, but considering the match was extremely close to being pulled and we were going to get our Benoit/Lesnar match at XIX I thought you would have been pleasantly surprised. I also thought you would have been on board for their matches later on in the year.

- Was also surprised by the AEW admission. I would have thought you would have been all over Dr. Britt Baker, especially after she came out with Steely in Pittsburgh. She was also killing it on the mic earlier pre-Corona and her role model gimmick is one of the better things in wrestling right now. Seriously though, I think you'd get a kick out of MJF and Hangman Page. MJF is an old-school heel who does an excellent job of pushing buttons and I 100% believe stole half of The Kid's material on PW. Hangman Page is one of the more intriguing characters in AEW right now. He was pushed to the moon, but he crumbled under the responsibility and expectation of being a draw. He's taken a back-seat and he's going for this McConaughy transformation where he's doing things his way and he doesn't care if he makes his tag partner Omega feel uncomfortable. They've been teasing a turn, but the fans love him too much and they're beginning to turn it into this young man forging his own path in the world.

Somehow it had all of that in just over an hour.

The voice is just so soothing. Like I honestly want to put it into my GPS system and just have it with you at all times. Not just the words, but the tone and response as well. Figure it will judge me based on my driving habits. Within the speed limit and managed a 3-point turn without a hiccup, I like it! Just general encouragement. You missed the turn. No big deal my friend. Just head up a quarter of a mile and make a safe legal u-turn and you got this. Dammit I want to do a podcast just to have 🤯 on as a guest. Won't even have a second episode.

I love that the whole finding a wrestling soulmate is so touching. Just finding someone that doesn't think it's "fake and gay" in the real world is such a treat. Maybe not always a current fan, but just someone you can reminisce about classic stuff is always fun. I'm always so self conscious about opening up to another person about this fandom since it's so looked down upon. So eager to let my guard down as a mark only to be blindsided when I find out I've revealed too much. Your finisher would've been the Octopus stretch? So like AJ Lee? Who is that? Oh fuck that was quick.

The idea that pi's whole persona is that of a wrestler starting out and trying out different gimmicks is like the cucks on reddit would say, pure wholesome. Absolutely love the idea that he changed his name just because he didn't wanna seem like a n00b.

American Badass Taker is like JBL... looking back you really appreciate what it was if you kinda overlooked it as a kid. ABA Taker honestly probably had more classic moments than he's ever given credit for. Be honest the match quality sucked in 99 so coming back to shit like the Jeff ladder match, VENGEANCE TRIPLE THREAT, Brock HIAC, "Say what if you sleep with your sister", that heel turn when he made JR kiss Vince's ass. There were some shit too obviously, but promo-wise it was so much better. Plus I loved that chair to the neck move he started doing. Oh yeah that WM17 match with the crashpad. LMAO.

I did book WALTER (not yet Disney) vs. Brock in the Fan Fic draft. I think they fought in space. See this is why splits are necessary. I didn't know where to go had I reached a third round in the tournament. I already had Tessa who could've led the Disney Princess Division.

This interview spoke to me. Yes I know I've used that phrase already this weekend, but it's not a lie. I have always felt the Pi of Proboards Era PW was a different animal than on the old pw.com. Now maybe it was because there was a more active userbase so the pool was a lot larger back then, but once we migrated here I felt a bond with Pizzle. I knew of him beforehand. Fan Fic guy, but never felt there was much interaction beforehand. Then the like legend was born. It's been discussed before. Partial save points, partial appreciation for the work people do on here and lastly just gifting the dopamine rush. Before the proboards move I always felt a bond with djm912, like we were separated at birth. And while we had similar tastes in wrestling the nerd culture it seems like pi is a different take on that. Maybe not a brotha from another motha, but maybe a distant cousin. Sort of a Forrest/Bubba situation where Lt. Dan asked about them being twins.

Pi is not just a poster, he is the forum's hypeman. Listening to this interview and how much call back he did to threads and users, it was more than a simple conversation... he was promoting the great community we've fostered. He's the narrator. Like I want him to start a Youtube Channel to discuss the happening on PW. Welcome to A Slice of Pi Episode 72, PW Week in Review for Saturday July 27th. Everything we take for granted he puts such a positive spin on things, he's like a friend everyone has.

MOST GUYS WOULDA LEFT BY NOW.

I think most of us have accepted that the community is what it is. However many regulars we have are the core of PW. Sure we may see a former user pop in, register to say hello and they may make a token gesture to interact for a minute or two but for the most part I don't think too many expect anything beyond the "1.1" to stick around. Over the years I've honestly considered quietly leaving the forum as many have done. Just slow down posting and interaction and put focus elsewhere. Just a case of wondering if being a poster adds anything of value to the forum. I've tried reddit and I'm a member of a few other forums. Never feel "over" when I make accounts other places, but something is different about PW and I feel like PI as a user is the entire forum in one person. The memes, inside jokes and just general camaraderie shines through every time you log back in and see you have several notifications from him. It makes you feel welcome. Makes you want to keep coming back. The disappointment of returning only to see no number icon. But then you post a thing or two and they return. It's addicting. It's the moment of finishing a roller coaster, you hit the final break-run as you wind back into the station, hair's messed up and you look to your seat partner and you don't say anything but you know... we're doing it again.

Basically what I'm saying is Pi Pw... it's a few more strokes but the board would not be the same without him. And with an impending baby boom in the household I can see this coming to an end, or at the very least slow down. I felt it in my gut at the end of the episode when the "producer" was giving him the light to close the set. Life happens. Could be a big reason some have left. Families, work and maybe just not being lonely teenagers interacting over watching men pretend to fight. We're all attached to our phones and with quarantines and such maybe it won't be an issue. But it's a bittersweet thought to think a new era in PW may be upon us. UT's countdowns (at least pop cultured versions) are coming to an end. Could the era of unlimited likes be coming to an end? Could the Slice of Pi Trilogy be our hero's farewell tour before saying good-bye? It scares me more than killer hornets spreading their own version of a Corona-Ebola hybrid.

This was a very enjoyable listen as I was out walking my dog this morning! Lots of fun to hear about 🤯's wrestling fandom - I think my favourite bit was the conversation about growing up and having access to different stuff, I find the way people grew up and got into hobbies really interesting.

I always like hearing people reminisce about the old days of PW. I've been here almost as long as anyone but wasn't always paying huge attention so there's vast swathes of time that I have no memory of at all. This has been such a crazy place with so much going on over the years you could do a whole podcast series just on the history of our forums. I wish we didn't lose that retrospective thread on the old boards.

@ness -- I'm positive 🤯 will not go away once baby pi arrives. He'll totally be glued to his phone while feeding the little guy. Don't worry.
