Can someone educate me on why hospitals are so often connected to religious organizations? Why are there so many hospitals that are not only named St Elizabeth's or what not but also make their medical decisions based on the religion?

Can someone educate me on why hospitals are so often connected to religious organizations? Why are there so many hospitals that are not only named St Elizabeth's or what not but also make their medical decisions based on the religion? What medical decisions are based off their religion? What are you talking about? All medical protocols are the same in all hospitals. Whether it’s religious hospitals or not. NY has a bunch of hospital. The Jews own a lot of them and they fall into the “LIJ/Long Island Jewish” name. There used to be St. Elizabeth too but they got bought out. Not once have I ever heard of hospitals basing medical decisions off of religion though. That’s fake news.

I would take a guess, in much simpler times, religious groups, churches, etc mostly of a Christian denomination likely volunteered, supported or were associated with local hospitals out of nothing more than good will. Particularly in smaller or rural areas.

Actually, I thi K the very first public hospitals and s hools were faith based. Before then only the rich had health care and education.
And no... Most faith based hospitals won't offer abortions or euthanasia.

Now, if we could just change gears for a second... Can we please talk about the youth in Asia?

Hey I know this one. The early Catholic church under the influence of Saint Benedict said that the care of the sick is to be placed above every other duty as to care for the sick is to care for Christ himself. This practice started in the middle ages and when America was settled the orders of the Sisters were emerging and basically took over healing of the sick. So the Sisters of Charity, Mercy, ect would take over a region and care for the sick. It is why the Sisters were so revered. It is not well known by most, but the the number one provider of healthcare in the US is the Catholic Church, who in a rare act of true charity will heal anyone who comes in, and not destroy their lives if they cannot pay. While the US is just now talking about universal health care, the Church literally has been doing it for centuries, and been calling for it American since the great war ended. While they get a bad rep for a few shitty hospitals, most Catholic hospitals follow modern medicine, contraceptives and all. In the true honor of Saint Benedict, they seek to heal and stay out of politics. Also the Pope is really close to just outright saying that Catholics should embrace contraceptives.
