Having long hair is not an advantage in any sport I know of. It adds to heating up the head and neck. Causes more sweat and just gets in the way. This is why most competitive female athletes resort to pony tails and braids like Rhonda Rousey. But here is my whiskey fueled taunt. Why not just cut it short or shave it off? If you are a really serious competitor lose the locks. Easy 101 rule of thumb if you are placing blind bets on unknown fighters in MMA, bet on the fighter who seems not to care what he looks like. Bet against the guy with hair dye and a mohawk. The real psycho competitive guy doesn't give a shit. Just takes a clipper number 2 and makes sure his hair isn't a hassle.
In most of women's sport, female athletes contend with long hair. Are they victims of the patriarchy? Unwilling to commit to compete at the most psychotic level?

Ronda*
You have a great point, my hair grows super quickly and it gets bothersome in general let alone for an MMMA fight.
Maybe it’s effects sponsorship and other gigs as well as brands want to market certain UFC fighters as attractive females that kick ass..& not a lot of women pull off the bald look well.

In many contact sports men can cop a whack in the balls, this invariably can make men ginger about diving into a contest. So, why not cut them off and where them around your neck on a chain to distract the opposition?

As a bald person I would think long hair would be good for keeping sweat out of your eyes. Shaving your hair off would seem to just get sweat in your eyes.

So much nicer than using a hat to soak up sweat, the hat holds heat , but the headband doesn't prevent sunburn.

I’m not even being funny ... I don’t get what this thread is really asking.
So I’ll go on a tangent: My three (nearly four) year old son has really long hair. He loves it. And people in North Carolina cannot accept the idea a boy has long hair. It just absolutely blows their mind.
