I graduated in 93. Right about peak time for gangs in mass media and in culture. Rap was crushing it. Movies were showing it. Menace II and more. Even in the random mall town up here we had some assemblance of gangs with kids from High Schools doing their best to live the live. We had a murder suicide in the area which ended most of it. Guess it became not cool once 3 kids killed themselves in a park after killing another kid and leaving his body in a farm silo. Not as profitable as the kids depicted in Alpha Dog.
Yeah, it was a lame time period. No one will likely deny that. What they would likely deny is their involvement. For all the lame choices I have made in life I dodged that one. Anyone here willing to admit they were in a gang? Even if it was you and two friends who decided to call yourself the "insert word here" boyz. Had a couple rules and such.
I figure there has to be someone.

My dad is/was (not sure anymore) a Boozefighter, and at one point there was a mini push to get me to join because attracting young prospects was apparently becoming an issue. I guess motorcycles and the outlaw look wasn't appealing pre-Sons of Anarchy? EDIT: Even though I never joined, I still ended up getting an old Harley and love motorcycling. Have Road with my dad and a bud plenty and attended several Boozefighter events (usually just the ones around Memorial Day and Veteran's Day), but fuck that initiation bullshit.

I have a family member in a 1%er club. I’ve been a guest a few times at the club house, and honestly I can’t fault these guys. Sure they like to drink and smoke and look like badasses, but all were very respectful and went out of their way to ensure I felt welcomed.

I'm pretty sure my dad's chapter is just a bunch of ex vets who are retired cops, defense attorneys, judges, etc. and one random art teacher.

My wife grew up on the same street as a member of the Hell's Angels. She didn't know the guy personally but her dad spoke to him a handful of times in a friendly neighbourly way and she told me he was always super nice and would never be against living in the same neighbourhood like other people would. She said there was never any problems on their street and cops would cruise by every so often but he wasn't stupid and didn't do anything illegal where he lived. Once in a while they'd throw a party at the house but they were smart enough to not draw negative attention and took it inside once it got dark out. She said he was like any other neighbour except he was covered in tattoos and didn't have a day job. She grew up pretty far north and I guess they had a small chapter up there. Make's sense, it's a pretty big town for trades people and it isn't a long ride from the oil rigs in northwestern Canada/Fort McMurray. Lots and lots of opportunities to sell a fuck load of drugs up there, which is likely what they were doing. Once in a while you'll see them on the highways out here between BC and Alberta. I always wave and they wave back.

They're the same as American biker gangs except they drink Molson and know how to skate and probably apologize while beating someone up with a crowbar.

Once I rented a townhouse to a girl who I didn't realise was the daughter of a hells angel. Her anc her boyfriend trashed the places and I gave them an eviction notice. The next day her halls angel father was at my door threatening me, but he was very nice about it. It was very politely scary. He said please and thank you while threatening to beat me up. When my friends were in university in 1999 or 2000 they were in Calgary and started a 'gang' called the erlton soldiers. The name was ironic because erlton was a middle class neighborhood in Calgary.out uniform was to wear black/white/grey camo pants. It was so lame.

Canada has fantastic roads to ride on, I would be more shocked if Canadians DIDN'T have motorcycle clubs.
