I just got back from sharing an Airbnb in Orlando with some friends. Two of them are heavy smokers. I personally don't give a crap if you smoke, here you are taxed out the ass to do so and it's your lungs. However, I noticed that heavy smokers are some of the most selfish SOB's in the world. One of them rented a car for the week. Of course you aren't supposed to smoke in the car - and they did. You aren't supposed to smoke in the Air BnB - and they did. They ruined my day at Hollywood Studios because every hour they had to go back to the front gates to have a smoke and we got nothing accomplished so I missed out on a lot of what I wanted to see. They were miserable if they went too long without a smoke which was a 'joy' to be around and I just thought how sad it was they were such a slave to their addiction. They kept talking about 'smoker's rights' but what about non-smoking rights? If I go to visit my friend, I know she smokes in her house so I am making that choice, but if I share an Airbnb with you where there is supposed to be no smoking and you choose to ignore those rules you are now infringing on my rights and my lungs. I just found it very inconsiderate.
Are you a smoker or non-smoker? If you are a smoker are you considerate of others and others' rules?

I was a smoker for 10 years before I quit and I 100% agree. Non-smoker don't go to the smoking section to harass people who smoke so smokers shouldn't be smoking outside the designated areas and harassing non-smokers with their habit.

Disgusting habit.
There used to be this culture that every hour at work, smokers found a way to go outside for a smoke. Selfish.
It ruins cars, ruins people’s health. And costs a fortune.

I think it was just their excuse to step outside for a short break every hour. The modern day version of this is the mid-day coffee run, but you can't exactly do that every hour.

I hate smokers at work. Two big ashtrays that I empty daily, yet the process of putting butts in there instead of on the ground and parking lot... completely unlearnable.

I never smoked. I'd like to think the PSAs they aired in Canada helped in me not starting. If you choose to smoke, then you've given up your right to be in those certain places. This is not the 1950s, when doctors said smoking was good for ya.

Currently I can’t think of a single person at work who smokes that is an easygoing, drama-free individual.
All of them seem to be moody, anxious, problematic people who go from one issue to another. I also hate the idea of these people being together outside talking rubbish among themselves. Whenever you see them, they seem to be huddled together, looking miserable.

That said though, I really wanna start a cigar club at work.

I have never smoked, never will, and consider it a stupid thing to do. I think it's good that we don't allow smoking in most public places anymore. Where I do have sympathy for smokers, at least where I live, is the smoking bans on hospital property. I appreciate that we should discourage smokers from congregating around entrances or whatever as a health us, but I think it's pretty callous to tell a 70 year old whose dying anyway that they can't have the one thing that brings them a bit of pleasure as they die. Plus it just encourages them to be reckless in leaving the hospital grounds to smoke. I would definitely have designated smoking areas in hospitals to let those suffering at least be able to smoke in peace.

I also hate the idea of these people being together outside talking rubbish among themselves. Whenever you see them, they seem to be huddled together, looking miserable. Meaningless anecdotes. Look, I share the same feelings as PB on smoking. It's awful. And yes, I've seen my fair share of smokers who are not nice people. I've also seen non-smokers who are not nice people. I also know, and work with, plenty of smokers who are extremely nice, good, intelligent people. As much as I dislike smoking, I dislike even more these implications that all smokers are moody, problematic, inconsiderate people. I'm sure many smokers would love to quit, and I know a few, but it is an extremely difficult thing to do.
