There's a female dentist wrestler?
I think I heard her interviewed on DVE two years ago.
I think she might have a legit medical degree. Can't remember if she was ever practicing or not though.

Why haven't the Lucha Bros won yet? You have the team's underdog with the team's mascot.

I agree. This is now THE #2 brand in all of wrestling. And it feels different than any of the other competitors that tried to compete with WWE since 2001.

Another good week of AEW action.
Chris Jericho/Darby Allin was a lot of fun, really impressed with Darby in this match. I'd go as far as to say, despite losing to Jericho, Allin just became a made star.

Proud & Powerful (sounds like a LGBTIAPK+ Gimmick ) screaming over Jericho’s promo is the sort of simple stuff you’d think they would figure out before getting a TV deal.

Week 3
AEW Tag Team Championship Tournament: Quarter Finals SCU(Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) vs. Best Friends (Chuckie T & Trent?)
This match accomplished two things. Firstly, it continued the SCU/Lucha Bros. rivalry which we saw on the premiere edition of Dynamite. Secondly, it put SCU over big time. Not only did they win after a pre-emptive attack by outside enforces, but Scorpio Sky managed to win despite being ill prepared. I've seen wrestlers work without boots before, but I've never seen a wrestler take a half and half approach. I thought Scorpio Sky came off extremely well in the match and they did a good job of showcasing his athleticism. My only gripe is that the Best Friends came off as oafs. Their original strategy was great, but with the match on the line they started making a lot of rookie mistakes and were too concerned about hugging than actually winning the tournament. I found the finish odd as well. Since when can you tag in and out on the apron? Has that always been legitimate?
Alex Reynolds and John Silva vs. LAX (Santana & Ortiz)
LAX maybe in the running for the worst theme music in all of Pro Wrestling. A simple squash match and at the moment the Street Sweeper (A combination top rope neckbreaker/powerbomb) has a 100% success rate. I thought it was odd that it was Jericho who confirmed their upcoming match with the Young Bucks, especially since the music was blaring over him. That would have been the perfect opportunity to have Schiavone interview them and allow them to get over.
I appreciated the attempt, but that Cody video was too much. From the cliche dialogue to the soft piano music it felt like I was watching the Dewey Cox Behind The Music. Stylistically I didn't mind it, but I just didn't think there was enough material to make Cody into a sympathetic figure.
AEW Women's Championship Match Dr. Britt Baker DMD vs. Riho (c)
I thought Baker's experience or lack there of showed in this match. I hope she uses this match as a before, because there were a few spots in the match she whiffed on when there was an opportunity to hit a home run. I believe she's only been wrestling for five years while juggling a medical career, but if she can put in the hard yards, in a year's time she could be anything. What I like about Britt is that she's obviously a fan of the business, she incorporates a lot of NJPW style work and with a stronger women's division I expect her to improve leaps and bounds. Similarly Riho is working at a disadvantage and she's got to overcome that size issue like a Bryan, Bret, Shawn and Rey were. I don't think she's at that calibre, I think she's quite adept, but she'll have to keep improving if she hopes to anchor this division. Like Baker, she has a tremendous story and I think she's already won the toughest battle, the support of the fans. One thing I will say is that Baker really knows how to target the jaw of her opponents with those rip-chord fore-arms, slingblades, mandible claws, jawbreakers and what have you. I don't want her to become Isabelle Yankem or something silly, but I think it's a nice nod to her profession.
AEW Tag Team Tournament - Quarter Finals The Lucha Brothers (Rey Fenix & Pentagon Jr) vs. Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt
I was saddened to learn of Luchasaurus' injury. He was one of the biggest surprises in that Casino Royal and he's won a lot of people over. Meanwhile Marko Stunt is arguably the most controversial wrestler in AEW. For some fans, watching him wrestle is akin to watching a child get abused and they simply don't want to see Stunt in this environment. I thought Stunt did a reasonable job here, he turned himself into a living weapon for Jungle Boy to use and they put up a much better fight than what the Lucha Bros were anticipating. In the end, it came down to Pentagon Jr skirting the rules, hitting a Canadian Destroyer infront of referee and somehow getting away with it. I thought AEW were going to have the best officials? Why weren't the Lucha Bros DQd then and there? In the end, the Lucha Bros turned on the juice, Package Piledriver on Stunt and it's all over. I think the main crux of the match, the Lucha Bros underestimating their opponents only to have too much class was good, but how they got there was disappointing. Regardless, Lucha Bros advance and they'll take on Private Party next week.
Kenny Omega & Adam Page vs. Jon Moxley & PAC
A fairly interesting match here, we had a lot going on. Firstly, it was the first in-ring encounter between Omega-Moxley. Moxley has made a name for himself at Omega's expense and clearly wants to test himself against the best wrestler in the world. They set up a future rivalry between PAC-Moxley. Perhaps we'll see a triangle perform with PAC > Omega > Moxley > PAC. I thought there confrontation was well handled, PAC didn't want to besmirch his record by risking a DQ finish and Moxley managed to make his life worse. Unlike Jericho, Moxley doesn't have to associate himself with others to maintain power in the company. Finally, Adam Page worked another high profile tag team match and didn't look out of place. Page is another prospect and while he doesn't have the celebrity of the others, nor the greatest background on the independants but is making a name for himself at AEW.
AEW World Championship Match Philadelphia Street Fight Darby Allin vs. Chris Jericho (c)
Great showcase for Allin. You can tell he's not the most polished performers, his strikes barely look like they could sting, but his speed and ability to hit all this high risk offence with his hands tied behind his back was impressive. Jericho came off here as a real pro. He couldn't go with Allin early, so he just let him get that energy out and then worked him over with weapons and his 'flash' moves like the Codebreaker. So far Allin has worked both Jericho and Cody and has come out of those matches a bigger star, guys like him Guevara, Jungle Boy will be the future world champions of this company.
Jericho caps his first successful title defence with a little bit of the bubbly and we're well and truly on the road to Cody vs. Chris Jericho at Full Gear.

AEW have done a great job in putting on must-watch television every week. Everything about that card was irresistible. A nice mixture of star-studded matches, fierce rivalries and matches with real stakes. The matches are crisp and entertaining, with a huge variety of talent, wrestling styles and match types. We see different kinds of promos, and not every single wrestler is featured every single week. A lot to praise.
But there are also some things I am going to criticise, and since I am going to go into more detail about these, this post will make me sound very negative. Oh well. Take from it what you will.
One of the things I like most about AEW is the more serious, sports-like presentation, where wins and losses matter, officials have real authority, rules matter, and there is a clear hierarchy of talent. It sets it apart from WWE. With regards to this I thought there was a lot of questionable booking decisions in this week's show, so the whole thing comes across like wrestlers can do whatever the hell they like without consequence.
- Lucha Bros attack SCU and take out one of their guys just before a tournament match. That's a big deal. Directly impacting on the winning chances (which matter, apparently), and livelihoods (in kayfabe) of other competitors, just because Lucha Bros don't like them, or something. Why isn't there any punishment for this?
- In SCU vs Best Friends, Chuck Taylor blatantly tags Baretta while halfway down the apron, nowhere near the tag rope. Referee is watching just allows it. And in general, guys are entering the ring illegally in tag matches constantly, and the officials don't even try to get the illegal men out of the ring. Lucha Bros and the Jungle people practically worked a tornado tag. Makes me wonder if there are any rules at all.
- Why is Jericho defending his championship match before his match with Cody? They aired a serious hype package about Cody facing Jericho, yet he may not be facing Jericho at all. Cody earned his shot before Darby earned his, so Darby should wait his turn.
Another thing I dislike is guys and gals who are clearly undersized, but booked on the same level as much bigger wrestlers. I'm not talking about Riho here. Even though I can't buy 99% of her offense, at least she knows how to work her matches as a seriously undersized competitor. She generally wins by outwitting/outspeeding her opponents, not through brute strength and unlimited toughness.
If not Riho, then who am I talking about? I'm talking about Marco Stunt, who looks like a kid (is he actually a kid?) yet kicks out of Pentagon's sick cradle piledriver thing, survives a ton more of Lucha Bros offense, and is still fighting in the closing stretch. I'd expect Kenny Omega to be able to take that kind of punishment, not a wrestler with a similar stature to the 9 year old girl Omega wrestled in DDT many years ago.
I'm also talking about Darby Allen, although he is much less offensive than Marco Stunt. For the first 75% of the match they did a great job of telling the story that Allen is super fast and unpredictable, making it difficult for Jericho to stay on top, but also that Jericho was clearly the more powerful, wiser, and all around better wrestler. Then Jericho got the tape out and Allen busted out as much offense with no arms than he did the rest of the match. They took the story to a farcical extreme. I was literally laughing at Allen flying around with no arms. Not good. It's almost as silly as Zach Gowen being able to get offense on guys like Brock Lesnar. Almost. But that kind of thing pops modern wrestling crowds, I guess. For me it kills the realism any attempt AEW is making to be credible. Not to mention the fact that undefeated AEW Champion Chris Jericho needs help to beat a midcarder with his arms tied behind his back. I know that heels gotta cheat, kid, but this wasn't the right time. Have Jericho cheat to beat top babyface Cody, sure, fantastic. This should have been a match to establish how Jericho is one of the best in the company, being able to dispatch of a lower-ranked challenger with relative ease. I didn't get that impression, him having to beat Darby Allen the way he did.
So yeah, good show.
