Hey guys,
Have any of you played in a Vampire league before? For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, the basic rules are such:
1 team is the Vampire. They do not participate in the draft.
The other 9 or 11 teams draft. There's a positional maximum (ie only 2 qbs, 5 rbs, 6 wrs, 2 TEs, 2 K, 2 DST). Once they go through the draft, that's it. Done. That's their team for the entire season. No waivers, no trades.
The Vampire gets to use what's left. If the Vampire wins a matchup, they can trade one player they started, for another player of the same position. This should make the Vampire stronger and stronger as the season goes along.
So my friends and I decided to give it a shot. We have a long-standing keeper league, so we set up an offshoot to try this Vampire league out. Because I won the league last year, I am the Vampire for this season. Let's just say it's going very well.
Week 1, got destroyed. Not even close. But I got to get a better idea of some young guys getting touches. Week 2 went very well for me. I started the Pats DST (27 points!), John Ross had a huge week, Darren Waller, etc. I happened to go against Christian McCaffery the one week he was held in check. I won, and stole McCaffery. Since then, I've been on a roll.
Week 1 - loss
Week 2 - win - traded Chris Thompson for Run CmC
Week 3 - loss
Week 4 - win - traded Demarcus Robinson for Keanan Allen (was the #1 WR at the time, full PPR)
Week 5 - loss
Week 6 - win - traded Carlos Hyde for James Conner (bad trade in retrospect)
Week 7 - win - traded Frank Gore for Saquon Barkley
Week 8 - win - traded Ryan Tannehill for Patrick Mahomes
Week 9 - win - traded Kenny Stills for Kenny Golladay
Week 10 - win - traded Jaylen Samuels for Zeke Elliot
Week 11 - win - traded Jack Doyle for Hunter Henry (this manager benched all of his good players)
Week 12 - win - traded Jamison Crowder for Michael Thomas
So, 9-3. Tied for first place. Top 4 teams make the playoffs.
QB - Mahomes
RB - Run CmC, Saquon, Zeke, Conner
WR - Thomas, Allen, Chark, Golladay
TE - Henry, Waller
K - Whatever
DST - Been using mostly Patriots, or teams that went against Miami or Cincinnati.
I should win, right guys? Full PPR, start QB RB RB WR WR TE FLEX K DST
Anyone played in a league like this? Any one interested in it? Definitely takes some strategy at the draft. Vampire always has a lot of work each week to determine which bums to start until the team gets good.
