As noted, WWE previously had interest in signing top Japanese star Io Shirai, but ended up rescinding the offer after Shirai reported to the WWE Performance Center to begin her training.
According to the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE decided against offering Shirai a contract after a heart issue was revealed during Shirai’s required pre-signing WWE medical evaluation. Prior to this new information becoming available, it was believed that WWE rescinded its offer to Shirai due to back issues, but it appears it was a heart issue which ultimately prevented her from working in WWE.
Shirai was originally offered a WWE deal around the same time as the company offered a deal to Kairi Sane, who will be challenging for the NXT Women’s Title at NXT Takeover WarGames.
