So apparently there is a push to change the handicap accessible icon as it doesn't represent the full spectrum of the handicaps one can have. waow.com/2019/07/22/push-is-on-to-change-handicap-accessible-icon/another article on it. blog.logomyway.com/new-handicapped-logo-and-the-history/That was the first article I saw on it. Then, on one of the Facebook pages I follow, I ran across this. imgur.com/hAMueoA ibb.co/LndmHqYAnd part of the logic does make sense. If the representation isn't accurate people are going to be left out. And I am sure someone has been harassed getting out of a car for not looking the way someone thought a handicapped person was supposed to look like in their mind. But, while the intention I agree with the implementation doesn't make sense to me. It is a symbol. Nearly a hieroglyph. It needs to be simple and easily understood. Is the answer just to take the human image out of it all together? Just have it be a symbol without representation that means exactly what it means. Like, just have a robin's egg blue triangle that people learn to know is the symbol of handicap accessible. Part of me is in conflict. Part of me wants to say the old one is established, so stick with it. The other part of me hates that laziness and resistance to change. Do we need an upgrade? Admittedly, it doesn't do the job. It does leave people out of the representation. But does it need a change? Is there an answer?

I thought this was going to be about how the newish (I think it’s new!) handicap logo looks like the handicap person is going to fall face first off the wheelchair.

I like the one in the article because it looks like someone powering through a stubborn poo.

This is so silly.
Yes - there are some wheelchair-bound people that may be highly active (physically).
Are you going to tell me that logo applied to Stephen Hawkins? Or a paraplegic?
Come on.
Icons are meant to be immediately-recognizable visuals. That's it.

I find this whole debate silly. UNC used the blue H and everyone knew what it meant. I do love me the NYC one where it looks like someone is falling out of a wheelchair though.
What matters is if the symbol is understood. IMO like with many other things, all of the effort wasted fighting this sign could be far better spent actually fighting for the handicapped to get more things they actually need.

Read that as fighting the handicap and thought the impending civil war was gonna,be way more intriguing.
