Sure you cut off your list, but the cut off bar you set must be a lot lower than mine.

Sure you cut off your list, but the cut off bar you set must be a lot lower than mine. I haven't looked at your list because there's probably NJPW spoilers in it, but it seems like you just hate all matches. El Phantasmo Vs. Michael Oku isn't even on your list. That's insane. As is not a single Omega match being there. Or a Moxley match. Your standards are ridiculously high.
But even for high standards, not putting the Oku match is just wrong.

My standards are high for what makes the cut, yes. I don't make a note of matches that were good but I'd never want to watch again. Even the ****1/4 matches on my list I probably won't watch again, but they're a step or two above good.
Need to rewatch the Omega vs Pac series. I'm sure their last match would make my list if I actually remembered it :suspic:

I would want to watch all the matches on my list again. That is the exact criteria I use when deciding to put matches on my list actually.
But as with movies, I'd rather watch new matches that I haven't seen yet. Like all of NJPW Omega.

Big Swole - AEW Dynamite 1/29/2020 Suzuki Vs. Nagata was a Hell of a fight. Better than it had any right to be. The fact that both of them were bright red from their ear down to their chest from the literally hundred strikes was impressive enough, but they both brought the intensity nonstop throughout the whole length of the match. It seemed like a great bout between two men in their prime, when suddenly Kevin Kelly on commentary says "Can you believe these are two 52 year old men fighting right now?" I knew they were that old, but suddenly hearing it said in the middle of the intense fight like that certainly took me aback. Even after the fight, the emotion on their faces was so intense that everything felt so real. It's the first time Nagata has really caught my attention. To be fair, it was the first big singles match I've seen him in as he didn't do much last year. I suspect the match was in small part carried by Suzuki who did seem to drive most of it, but Nagata clearly can go and deliver in a big way. We'll see how he fares in the next round against Okada. The Gedo match was also far better than anything I could have expected. There was little wrestling, but Gedo delivered a masterpiece surprisingly as good as a Yano match. His skullduggery and constant snickering was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. The match may be way down at 81 on my top list, but if I were ranking on entertainment value alone...it would probably be a top 10 match of the year. By the time he pulled out the fourth hidden weapon I was nearly in tears. Not only that, but Gedo made a believer out of everyone. No matter how sure everyone was that Gedo did not stand a chance in Hell of winning the match, he got an incredibly convincing 2.99 second nearfall that made me jump from my seat. Okada is my wife's #1 favorite wrestler and even she thought Okada had lost the match for a second. Great storytelling, even with little wrestling. Gedo and Okada are masters of working a match. My wife translated the post-show interview from Okada: Okada: No one expected Gedo to be able to beat me. Not me, not the crew, not the audience. But I was actually in trouble there. I still won the match though. Interviewer: What are your thoughts on your next round match with Nagata? Okada: Nagata? Isn't he quite old? I don't think I will have a problem. I suppose I'll soon see how much of a fight Nagata actually puts up. I am looking forward to it.

A few matches from Jay White Emperor on those lists, is this kiwi really that good? That's not a loaded question either, he looks the part, has a hell of an image/brand and appears charismatic enough. How well do you think he'd adapt to an American promotion/audience? Does he eventually turn up in NXT? He looks like Hunter's wet dream.

Jay White is absolutely phenomenal. People talk about MJF being the next great heel but Jay White smokes him. Granted, he is four years older, but still pretty young. Best heel in the world, easily.
Sometimes he talks too much and is too repetitive, but in general he's a great promo. He has a natural heelish charisma that comes across very well in the ring.
His work in the ring is easily the best part of his game. He was putting on amazing matches mere months after returning to NJPW from excursion in 2018. Since then he's become one of the top workers in the company. He's capable of getting great matches against any opponent in any circumstance, a very rare gift.
He also has a completely original wrestling style. Defensive/counterattacking. He likes to bait his opponents into standard strong style tropes like a strike battle, and then use it against them to gain an advantage. He has endless counters and reversals. He cheats, but doesn't overly rely on cheating like many modern heels do. He's good enough to beat anyone on his own, but he cheats anyway just because he's a dick.
I don't think Jay White has any interest in wrestling in America. He's already a one-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and is set to main event Wrestle Kingdom in 2021. If he spends the rest of his career in NJPW, he'll go down as one of the all-time great gaijins.
Hypothetically, I think he'd do pretty well in AEW/WWE/NXT. He can talk, he can work, he can adapt. I don't know whether he'd be a main event a heel or a midcard workhorse (i.e. Shinsuke Nakamura), but he'd certainly be very successful.

Emperor, I have seen some of his work, but I simply don't have access to NJPW World. I think you're correct on the MJF front, MJF would be the sort of heel you'd expect to be talking a big game, until Jay White walked in the room. Jay White looks like a badass in comparison. I think aesthetically alone, he'd be a massive star for NXT. I don't want to rag on AEW again, but Jay White appears too fucking cool to be working in AEW.

Emperor, I have seen some of his work, but I simply don't have access to NJPW World. What's stopping you? It's a cheap service and great value for money. Free match on Dailymotion: his 2018 match against Kenny Omega. Not long after his lacklustre debut at Wrestle Kingdom against Tanahashi, this is the match that put Jay White on the map. Not his best match, but considering he was only a month in the company (excluding his Young Lion days), it's incredible, and the match that defined that unique defensive in-ring style I talked about.

Holy shit indeed.
I know I said Jay White was the best heel in the world a couple of posts ago, but, I may have to take that back.
Roman Reigns is on an absolute tear, killing it in every single segment, promo, match he has. As great as Jay White is, there are some small flaws in his game. I'm not seeing any flaws in this incarnation of Roman Reigns.
All hail The Tribal Chief.

This may have been the year I’ve watched the least new wrestling. So nothing has beaten the Royal Rumble match for me as it was genuinely an incredibly crafted five star masterpiece in my mind. Will be keen to check out some of ZSJs most hyped matches of 2020 though.
