The Mormons cut bait at the right time. Sorta not related but is related. Sleepers is a freaking great movie. Shame that type of revenge justice is so rare.

Mike nailed it. Nothing changes except Boy Scouts dodges paying that legal settlement. The new norm for America. Do anything to warrant a civil suit and pay a lawyer instead of the settlement and do the chapter 11 barrel roll and come out unscatched.
Would not be shocked to see Facebook try something like this to get out of their tax bill.

Most of the kids in the cafeteria scenes in that movie later would lose kids in the Newtown shooting. Twisted irony makes the film impossible for me to watch anymore.

Turns out in this is a clause that says sexual assault victims would only have 80 days to file a claim against Boy Scouts. Totally just a way to get out of paying abuse victims.

I hate kiddie fiddlers as much as the next person, but does anyone else find it weird that we put a monetary figure on pain and suffering? What's the motivation? Is it because that's how we hurt organisations or does buying a new car mitigate the pain?

Is it because that's how we hurt organisations or does buying a new car mitigate the pain? Without pain and suffering companies would benefit from abuse by just paying out the lawsuits of actual harm. Also in some cases the actual harm is not very tangible but the person does suffer due to illegal acts so we try to estimate the cost of the pain in terms of dollars.
