Big Pete likes to drag Hangman Page down, but you can't deny the man was clearly the most over man in a match containing long time smark favourites The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.

It will please you to know that Hangman Page has won me over in the new year.

It wasn't that I didn't see the talent either, it was that his booking and character work left a lot to be desired. I made the Jay White comparison, but an even better comparison would be The Rock in 1997. Everyone could see the potential in The Rock, but his one defining feature was being a third generation wrestler. The WWF then tried to make a second defining feature by making him the IC Champion and the fans turned on it because the wrestler should be making the title and not the other way around.

In contrast Hangman was somebody every AEW representative said would be a star, he won a joke battle royal which somehow earned him a shot at the AEW Championship and then proceeded to have a long boring competitive match with Kip Sabien that you've probably already forgotten. He loses to Jericho at All Out much to the relief of the AEW audience and loses the ring to MJF in an awful match. He had an awful year despite being pushed so hard and it was enough for the Hangman to drown his sorrows...

...which coincidentally is when he started getting over.

Fozzy would be a much better band if it were that choir instead of Y2J dad rock.

Well I was going to type more words, but the match sucked so much there wasn't much to talk about. Biggest match in company history was a flop, but the end result will make it historic. Jericho was a fine choice for the first champion, but he clearly doesn't have the in ring chops to work at the top. Moxley is established, he can talk, and he can wrestle on a high level.

One observation: The announcers talked about Jericho trying to get DQ'd. If so, why didn't he just have his entire Inner Circle mug Moxley from the start? Five on one match. Barring that, why did Hager and Santana and Ortiz kick up a fuss when Aubrey threw them out? They could have shrugged and said "what are you gonna do? DQ him?"

Overall, great show. AEW is strong.
