18:12 onward Elon Musk’s Neuralink, the secretive company developing brain-machine interfaces, showed off some of the technology it has been developing to the public for the first time. The goal is to eventually begin implanting devices in paralyzed humans, allowing them to control phones or computers. www.theverge.com/2019/7/16/20697123/elon-musk-neuralink-brain-reading-thread-robot (July 2019 article) ———— So I’m late to the party on this as I hadn’t heard of it until they talked about it on Joe Rogan’s podcast today but it was fascinating. Incredibly interested to see how far this technology goes in my lifetime.

I would not get too excited. The mice they tested this on suffered brain death around the implantation sites. Also glial scars form around the implantation site which inhibit the ability to read neural activity. This feels one a few steps removed from the early studies of drilling holes in people's heads and inserted electrified rods. Neat idea, but we do not have the science for it and really are not even close.

So X Æ A-12 was effectively the launch party for this Neuralink thing?
