So a while ago, there were rumors of Nintendo having plans to re-release older 3D Mario games, as well as a new Paper Mario game. It looks like part of those rumors were true, as Nintendo has just released a trailer for a new Paper Mario game called Paper Mario: The Origami King.
I gotta say, I'm definitely intrigued by the trailer. I know the series doesn't have the greatest reputation, or at least the later games in the Paper Mario series, but hopefully this will be a good game.
Anyways, what do you guys think of the trailer? Any interest in the game, or hell thoughts on the series as a whole?

Might be down to play this, haven't played a Paper Mario since the original which I enjoyed a lot. Though I might be deep into Ghost of Tsuhima by that point however.

I'm not going to lie, I'm disappointed this appears to be a follow-up to sticker star and not the classic Paper Mario style. I loved the first two games and would love to see them both remastered for the Switch, but this is just a deep cut. Sure, it'll be fun in the moment, but it won't be a classic like the first two games.

I can't believe Nintendo have never thought to remaster TTYD. It's one of their greatest ever sequels and the original game commands a big price due to the demand. You could easily sell it as a budget game and ship a million+ units.
I enjoyed the original as well, although a PAL copy was near impossible to come by. For years I thought it was only a video shop exclusive until I came across a copy in the wild - years later a friend was kind enough to give me his copy (which I believe he borrowed off someone else?).

Never got to play TTYD since they failed to put that on N64(That is how I got to play the first one) and put it on the less selling Gamecube. Would love to play it though!
Just like I would with the Metroid Prime trilogy that is supposedly coming to the Nintendo Switch(Supposedly)

... You didn't own a Wii, Blindy? Not GC, Wii or Wii University. So I missed out on quite a lot. But yeah I would be down to play a lot of these games but Nintendo does not want to put out a Virtual Console which boggles my mind. I am all in on my Nintendo Switch though, whatever they put out(Xenoblade Chronicles), I am playing.

I forgot who I was talking to for a second, it's like pi and OoT it still blows my mind you went all those years without a Nintendo. Everyone and their grandmas had a Wii.
I'm tempted to pick up my third copy of Xenoblade Chronicles, maybe I'll play through it this time? Did you play the sequel on the Switch?

I'm tempted to pick up my third copy of Xenoblade Chronicles, maybe I'll play through it this time? Did you play the sequel on the Switch? Yeah I actually didn't own a PS3 until early 2012 since I was sorta deep into my undergraduate at the time so I really only got to play on my PS2 and DS(Hence why Persona 3 and 4 really, really hold up nicely for me, I was what Emperor is now by only having a PS2). That's how I got to experience so many JRPGs like SMT: Nocturne(PLAY THAT GAME BOYS), SMT: Digital Devil Saga and SMT: Devil Summoner 2, because that was the lone system I still had as a part time pizza shop working undergraduate part time slacker/before later on taking college serious to get my degree No XBOX360, no Nintendo systems besides DS and no PS3 until early 2012, few months before The Last of Us where I can finally play the much hyped game with everybody and not feel so far in the past. I strictly did PS2 or handheld(PSP my bro also had) gaming from like 2002-2012 I want to say. And I have not played Xenoblade Chronicles X(I think that's the name) but both that and Tokyo Mirage Sessions WHEN I HAVE TIME(THanks work) will be played EDIT: THINK I got a 3DS before PS3 because I did Fire Emblem: Awakening Day one which scratched my itch for the series. Great game. Batman series and Uncharted series ended up being the first games I played on PS3 when I finally got one. EDIT Part Two: Ok TLOU was 2013 so I think I had a year head start with the PS3.

And I have not played Xenoblade Chronicles X(I think that's the name) but both that and Tokyo Mirage Sessions WHEN I HAVE TIME(THanks work) will be played There was actually a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 which came out for the Switch, X was the Wii U exclusive. X is an open-world non-linear game while 2 is completely story based. I own both but I've only played through 2 which I really enjoyed. It nailed the exploration component for me which a lot of JRPGs lack. I'm not sure how well it will hold up after playing the original first, most people who played through the original found the sequal lacking.
We're actually pretty similar. I fell out of gaming largely around 2007 and wouldn't get back into it until 2013. Funnily enough, the Last of Us was a huge draw card because I enjoyed their previous series and it appeared to be the true follow-up to RE4. I would hazard to guess I would have bought three games a year between 2008-2012, with both Persona games being among them 3 (2011) and 4 (2009). I'd never heard of the SMT series prior, but I caught the GameTrailers review of 4 when I was sick at home and kept a mental note of this weird anime Earthbound/Harvest Moon cross-over game. Then before I went to go see Dragon Ball Evolution, I happened to see a copy of it in the wild for a budget price and I knew I had to have it. Got addicted to it and completed the entire thing within a month, 80+ hours which with my schedule was nuts. I'd play it until I couldn't keep my eyes open and would try to fit it into my schedule before I had to go out. I wasn't as into 3, but appreciated it just as much if not more. I just found the tone of the game really affected me and I would grind my character until every party member was sick and I got absolutely everything out of every Tartarus visit. It took me 18 months to beat the game, but the ending was so uplifting. I never got around to the 20+ hour epilogue.
I've played the opening couple of hours of SMT3 and loved it. It reminded me a lot of Killer 7 in terms of it's style and it's composition. It's been years since I've played it, but I've always been meaning to return it at some point, same as SMT IV and SMT IV: Apocalypse.

This is not the same Sticker Star/Color Splash, there is no sight of consumable attacks and the new battle system shows Mario's Boots and Hammer as unique individual attacks wity no number on them.
Paper Mario discussion on the internet has been poisoned for a long time due to people not wanting to grasp the realities of what the series is now, but this looks good .

It isn't their capacity to understand what the series is, just the underlining disappointment of what it's become. From the brief footage that's been shown on the Japanese channel, it looks overly simplistic.
It's fine, but it's like the WWE 2K series and how fans of wrestling games aren't particularly fond of it.

People being hyperbolic and threatening Miyamoto is not reasonable, and assuming it's not even an RPG is just dumb hyperbole.
Some people still are arguing it's sticker-based, despite no footage showing that, they dont want to know, they just want to be mad because it's not exactly what they wanted.

You're lumping a lot of people in with extremists there. It's not like he added a Fire Emblem character into the mix.
The thing was, there was a rumour along with that aforementioned Mario leak that this was going to be a return to the series roots when it's more or less the same trajectory they've been going down since Sticker Star.

A rumor is a rumor is a rumor, surely people know how to be reasonable about those, right?
This game does ditch the consumable attack system as far as we can see, and it does seem to feature partners, even if not to the same extent as TTYD's more unique characters, but again, there is a difference between "returning to form" and just doing TTYD 2 (a thing I would never mind, by the way).
The main things this continues to use from the previous two games seems to be the paper-based gags and style, which are hardly a problem.

They are being reasonable, unless being disappointed in a preview is somehow unreasonable.
The rumour engaged a larger audience who otherwise wouldn't have cared. Most fans don't like where the series went after TTYD and this has done little to dissuade them.

You can’t buy into qualitative statements, let alone those coming from a rumor. There are partners, attacks aren’t expendable, and the premise/story seem interesting. To someone in the info pipeline, this was enough to describe it as a “return to form.”
Not taking broad, objective things from leaks without getting hung up on subjective ones is not hardly a hard thing to do, imo.
Being disappointed is fine and valid, inmediately declaring it just another Sticker Star is, well, hyperbole.

Rumours can certainly pique somebody's interest and when it turns out to be largely unfounded there's going to be disappointment.
A trailer doesn't define a game, but a lousy trailer can certainly hurt a game. I don't think this trailer did a good job of selling the game, unless it's so ashamed of it's combat it was only willing to show the most basic mechanics and wasn't willing to sure whether series staples like partners being involved in combat was a thing.
That's all anyone is doing and if the reviews come out and say otherwise then Nintendo have to re-think how to sell these games.

Looks good to me! It has a RPG battle system too, be it a different one than the first two. Just let there be some variety to the characters, that was another bad part of Color Splash.

Paper like what magic the gathering cards are made of? Yeah, it's actually based off the original papier-mâché style of graphics made famous in video games by Ocarina of Time. If only you had played that more than a few minutes, you would know all about it.

They made a paper version of Mario?
Was one of the few JRPGs on a system starved of them. It came out right at the end of the N64's life cycle and was an incredibly charming adventure that deconstructed a lot of the elements the series was known for. It also stood out in the JRPG genre since it still had platforming elements and combat wasn't entirely menu based, you still had to nail button certain button inputs.

Only thing I remember about the first was beating it. I had exhausted all my items and one more hit and I was dead. Accepted my fate and did a basic attack knowing I'd get a gameover but then he died with the hit and I beat the game.
