DKC2 is really carrying System's list versus Cig who has a lot of quality stuff to choose from or Mass Effect.

CIG2. Persona 4 10/10 3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 8/10 4. Grand Theft Auto 3 9/10 5. Super Metroid 5/10 9. Rock Band 6/10 13. Shadow of the Colossus 10/10 14. Super Mario 64 5/10 15. God of War 2 8/10 Average: 7.625 (over 8 games) System2. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 8/10 5. Street Fighter 2 5/10 10. Doom 9/10 11. Batman: Arkham City 8/10 12. Metal Gear Solid 2 6/10 16. Final Fantasy 8 9/10 Average: 7.5 (over 6 games) System's three steals allowed him to approach cig's mighty roster, but it was not enough. CIG has the higher average and more games I've played.

CIG
1. Mass Effect 2 2. Persona 4 3. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 4. Grand Theft Auto 3 5. Super Metroid 6. Marvel's Spider-Man 7. Super Mario Odyssey 8. Red Dead Redemption 9. Rock Band 10. CIG already had me at 16 of 16, and Super Mario 64 only strengthened that, though System bumped up from 13 to 14.
Top 5: 1. Red Dead Redemption 2. Arkham City 3. Super Metrioid 4. Arkham Asylum
And ya know, I can't quite decide on # 5...but it's SM64, God of War, or SotC...so 4/5 for CIG any way you cut it. I guess I could argue Blood Money at 5 for a 3-2, but honestly, CIG's list has pretty much had it locked from go and only gotten stronger. CIG it is.

I just want to say I appreciate none of my games made it to grand finals through the pick stealing rule, nice job guys.
I'll determine my vote by seeing which games from each list would I have picked if they had been available to me:
Final Fantasy 8
vs
Mass Effect 2 Fallout: New Vegas BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
System's list wins.

Ummm...I think you may have flipped us lol. Nighty deliberately picked popular games he personally finds mediocre.
It was all fun and games until he picked Shenmue, then he made MY list.

Shenmue? That forklift simulator? Groundbreaking, but boring, and crappy as sin to play.
Those sailors should have ended it right there.

I would choose your words wisely, chum.
Shenmue, one of the most detailed games and ambitious games of the sixth generation that provided players with a wonderful prologue to a great adventure we were unfortunately denied of because SEGA kept releasing a new console everytime the president sneezed.
It doesn't deserve to be listed next to those other cookie cutter games.
In fairness, neither does Batman. At least not when Spiderman is right there.

A lot of that detail has no substance. For example, fans love to talk about how all those NPCS have set schedules and a routine, but when they are all completely lifeless and will just tell you they don't know or to leave them alone when approached, it makes you wonder what the fuck the point was. It controls like ass too, you feel like you are driving Ryo around. That translation and voice acting is bad even by 1999 standards. The best thing about the game? You can play Space Harrier. But enough of how much Shenmue sucks... Good match System! Thanks to all who voted for me and participated in the tournament. It's reassuring to know that good things do happen to bad people. Lets get another competition going here sooner than later!

Even now there's nothing quite like that masterpiece (years ahead of its time), a detective game that doesn't hold your hand and actually forces you to find your way through the narrative. Because it had fighting in it, people go in expecting an action game, which it simply isn't. If it had first come out today, when narrative first games are praised, it could have been a success. Hell, if it just released on the PS2, instead of the DOA Dreamcast, it could have succeeded and evolved as time went on, like it's successor, Yakuza.
And the controls are fine as long as you don't personally suck.

They help drive the game forward, knowing how they interact with the world and planning out your day accordingly. It was a nice twist on the adventure genre which was growing stagnant at the time.
I thought there was some real weight behind Ryo's movement. FPS mode took some getting used to, but that was because they wanted to show you how much Ryo could interact with the world.
Can't judge a game because a foreign country dropped the ball. The original voice acting was fantastic considering the scope.

After cig's recent outburst I don't wish him peace and love, I wish him fear, famine, pestilence...
Ah who am I kidding, well done. You had a fantastic balance between retro and modern classics, even the decision to drop Nier worked out since more people have had a chance to play SotC.
I actually adopted the Lionheart method as well when it came to judging games. I haven't played through every game, but I've read and watched enough to have a baseline idea of what people voted for and I didn't want to penalise somebody because I haven't gotten around to playing a classic game. If I did the final would have looked like:
System (7) Donkey Kong Country 2, Halo: Combat Evolved, Street Fighter 2, Grand Theft Auto V, Super Mario Galaxy, Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, Final Fantasy VIII
cig (8) Persona 4, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Grand Theft Auto III, Super Metroid, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Shadow of the Colossus, Super Mario 64
And if we went through total times completed, Mario 64 alone would account for a lot of lists. Yoshi's Island, A Link to the Past, Super Metroid and Grand Theft Auto III have also had multiple playthroughs in comparison to DKC2 and Halo. I don't really count NG+ playthroughs as new playthroughs so Sekiro and Persona 4 miss out.
If System had have drafted No Mercy it would have earned my vote. It wouldn't have mattered because I didn't vote in the end, so it would have still ended up 8-7, but maybe it would have swung others. It made the pick ups such a critical part.
I'm curious, what about Mass Effect 2 and Fallout: New Vegas made them stick out for their franchises? Why not Fallout 3 or the original Mass Effect? What did the follow-ups add that made them stick out?

Is now a good time to point out that I perfectly predicted this result back in THE FIRST ROUND? Indeed, my psychic abilities are something to behold.
Ness should write an entire news column dedicated to my powers. Feel free to PM me for the interview. I won't tag him. Reporters should come to me.

Also, Shenmue is fantastic. What was the point of those set schedules, cig asks? How about DIRECTLY INFLUENCING MAJORA'S MASK, HUH? Masterpiece.

Yeah, I'm not gonna argue with Shenmue fans. People have been known to lose eyes...I was mistaken to even start it. So feel this tournament started like coal blazing with fire from lighter fluid and ended with the coal just ashing over. Well congrats to cig it was a fun and it was good detraction. Yeah, these drafts tend to do that. It's the same rosters over and over mostly...perhaps I should have required more steals and stipulations to keep it fresh. Oh well! Thanks for being an active participant. I'd like to run a game of the generation countdown or tournament at some point later this summer. Hope to get as much participation in that.
