Ewing didn't make my final 10 , he was one of the last few cuts. Great player on both ends of the court but unfortunately for him I think his NBA career is associated with always coming up short and even his team doing better without him at times.
#10 isn't egregious. Especially with multiple Knick fans on here.

I didn't ever really follow the NBA and never really had any time for basketball as a sport in general, but as a kid I had a Patrick Ewing basketball that I loved for whatever reason and consequently loved Patrick Ewing blindly.
Everyone was still sucking Bulls dick at the time, I think. But I was all about Ewing. I think Ewing, Malone, and Shaq were my guys. And I had no idea why. Certainly no NBA-based reasons.

Ewing was 7th on my list. Don't think the lack of a ring should be held against him given he played in the Jordan era and was surrounded with very good role players but not a true 2nd star. Arguable top 3 Knick of all time.

Ewing just missed my list. Not through any fault of his own, just that talent at this position is ridiculous, especially when you go across 3 different sports, 4 if you included center fielders (which I did not)

I did not include Centerfielders because I didn't know they counted.

Didn't do CF either, man that list would have been a slaughterhouse if so.

Ewing was my favorite player on my favorite team during my favorite era of NBA basketball. So I threw him on the bottom of my list at #10 as a homer pick. In reality, I'm with UT & thereallt in that was Ewing was undoubtedly a great player, but there were about 11 or 12 guys I ranked above him throughout the three sports (I also did not include centerfielders). Yet, in the end, I just could not bring myself to submit a Centers list that failed to include my man Patrick Ewing. 🤯 truly is my brother from another mother. This was also me in the 90s.

Ewing was the last cut from my list. Shame that dude never won a title. He deserved one.
Messier was in my top 5 I think. It’s unreal how good he was for so long. And the points he continued to put up even late in his career speak for themselves. Anyone that can play a high contact sport for as long as he did and still dominate deserves the recognition.

Messier was my #10 the first of my 3 hockey centers. He proved he was more than just Gretzky's 2nd fiddle when he led the Rangers to the Stanley Cup.

6) Mark Messier 7) Patrick Ewing
Messier's NYR win is what got him on the list. Stone cold rock solid and lasted a long, long, long time and could have honestly gone longer but I think he quit right before the NHL lockout and didn't want to just do it for a paycheck. TO have that type of longevity in a sport like hockey is astonishing.

I had Messier at 7, I hated him in real time but I gotta respect the longevity, he didn't avoid physicality like other stars. He also had an inspired run to lead Edmonton back to the cup just 2 years after Gretzky left.

Messier was one of the two guys I probably should have had on my list over Ewing. I feel like he was a bigger star in hockey than Ewing was in basketball. But the fanboy in me just couldn't leave Big Pat off my list.
For like two decades all I really knew Messier for was leading the Rangers to that one Stanley Cup win. For example, I didn't even know he played with Gretzky on those great Oilers teams until a few years ago.

I thought Hakeem would be higher but I guess it lends credence to my thought that he is one of the most overlooked players in recent history. He's legit in the argument for the best defensive center in NBA history , could more than get it done on the offensive end with his patented Dream Shake and led a Rockets team to two titles - even if I hated him for beating the Magic in one of those trips.
Just a great all around big man who could do it all on both sides of the court and one of the best and most well rounded centers to ever play the game.
