PW NEWS EPISODE 45 (17:57)
BREAKING SILENCE: Taker's retirement is getting some slight chatter in the WWE section. Beats the alternative wrestling talk I suppose. What are your favorite matches? Nothing will touch that 90-day PPV streak he had in 97 (vs. Bret @ Summerslam, vs. HBK @ Ground Zero, vs. HBK @ Bad Blood). As RT would say come at me bro if you think there's any better in such a small time frame. And they all play into one story! Oh yeah and more rapist talk about molesters in DIS BUSINESS. Can you even keep up with it? Chikara's name is getting out there too. Same guys who thought they were above using naughty language. Always knew they were the Catholic Priests of hypocrisy.
THAT'LL PUT ASSES IN SEATS: Favorite zooms by with our #7: Mick Foley. Dude wrestled, had characters, wrote books and has an unhealthy love of Santa Claus. Hey, at least he's not a basic becky and going crazy over Halloween like every person ever. And the FF Draft is still being a thing... honestly I'd just like it to end after we do our picks. No voting, only drafting! I'm starting to think perhaps I go too outside the box for these things... Coronapocalypse I drafted PW legends... last FF Draft I went with an outer space theme complete with Trump... and now this obsession with the first letter. Never get outta the gate with it though. Maybe PW doesn't get me.
MOST IMPORTANT STREAM OF THE DAY: Cereal Countdown will either be tonight or tomorrow. Still tallying things up. How is someone gonna do this for lists with potentially 100 entries? Get outta here. Also looks like another Animal Warfare match is underway. Time to start voting again. It really never ends. Also seems System and 🤯 and even pduh want us to just leave the site since they're constantly trying to get us to go to another site to see their content. I'm different though.

Confession Time: I have been a bad PW Newsthusiast. Missed a few episodes lately. But I'm halfway though this one! Excellent content. Post-work naps are crucial. I take one 90% of the time. Mainly because I only sleep 3-4 hours per night. It is what it is. Digging all the Undertaker stuff. I'll head over to that thread with a match list when the news is over. Good stuff on Foley as well. I was also a little surprised he finished this high simply because he's been retired for such a long time and was never a true top guy in the first place. Not that I'm upset by Foley's good performance. Far from it. I was the high vote on Mick at #3. Whether you can't stand him or you're a weirdo, you have to admit CM Punk is a draw in the Favorite Wrestler countdown. Just how high will he finish? Too high! But KING KID 🤯 and Others will enjoy the pic I plan on using. Now it's poor @ness who has to deal with a huge countdown. I was just there with PW's Favorite Wrestler. So I feel your pain. I don't know how UT runs two countdowns just about every single week. Dude must see lists and numbers in his sleep. I need to get caught up on Animal Warfare as well. Haven't been keeping up with the Speaking Out thread either. There's just too much going on here. I was never a Chikara fan but I did appreciate their family friendly PG style. I'm not the greatest with directors but this Fincher chap put out some good flicks. PW claims to appreciate outside the box thinking when it comes to drafts. Yet outside the box stuff hardly ever wins. My original plan was definitely out there. Then I scrapped it for 305 Live. Then that got ruined and now I'm just doing a basic boring draft. PW purist here. I don't mess with Twitch or any of that other nonsense. Hooray! One of these countdown results gives me an excuse to mention George Plimpton. Some day I'll have to explain how this whole George Plimpton gimmick came to be.

You say that 🤯, and in my life i have pulled 27hr shifts, I have stayed up for a couple of days straight I have worked myself to the point of exhaustion. I was never in my life more tired than the couple of weeks after our first baby was born.

I mean, Vince McMahon doesn't sleep and look what he's done.

I think there's a reason incy is always flying to other countries... You know I have never done it, but I have been tempted to extend a trip by a day just to sleep in the Hotel. Haven't done it though, would seem dishonest to me. So most of my flights out are either 11pm on a Sunday night or 5 or 6am Monday mornings to maximise the time with my family.

I've never heard @ness talk about wrestling as much as he has in these broadcasts. Thought he was one of the many posters who used to love it but now can't stand the thought of watching wrestling. Now he's listing Undertaker matches like he's a HoW veteran.
Have you made a single post in the wrestling forums outside of Fan Fiction? Ever?

I still like wrestling in theory but there's too much garbage on the roster to wade through for the gems. Even mania was at least 60% filler.

L&Ping! @ness, I'm so proud of you and PW News. Look how beautiful that subforum is. Three pages of glory. A shrine to your brilliance. In other news, I've never really been a mapper. ===== PW failed by allowing Taker to drop in its collective favorite countdown. He's so iconic and responsible for so many of our favorite moments. I'd be down for @ness running a Taker match countdown after cereal. Just went and tried to drop my favorites in the retirement thread, and it got me thinking just how much of a fave Take is. I feel bad/guilty not ranking him higher on my list. Should've been Top 10. Bah, fuck me. Even the casket match and ground zero were good, IMO. What was so bad about the casket match? This topic reminds me of how I've always wanted to start my Best Feuds thread series in HoW. Just individual wrestlers each getting a thread with me listing my favorite feuds, and then opening it for discussion. I don't have it in me to run a countdown. Hats off to you, @ness, and Baker-man and UT. ===== Is it bad of me to admit I've kinda tuned out the #SpeakingOut thread and am tired of all the rapist talk? It's kinda like how America just arbitrarily decided to become bored of COVID-19 and George Floyd protests. ===== The Foley reveal got swept onto a back page so fast somehow. I had no idea he'd been revealed, couldn't find the post, and couldn't tell who was losing their mind... Me or the posters discussing Foley suddenly. He made my list, so I'll have to post some thoughts about him at some point. For the record, Foley vs. Brock would've most likely been like Dean Ambrose vs. Brock but actually GOOD. Speaking of Ambrose, Dr. Emperor finally linked me some matches to try to flip my mind. So expect match review posts at some point! ===== @ness, you should've drafted Antonio Cesaro. Then Adrian Neville. Missed opportunities. Love the idea of drafting based on WWE-canceled first names. Wonder if RT will fuck with your OCD. Wonder even more if RT listens. Probably not considering his ongoing job search and refusal to acknowledge notifications. ===== How do you guys tally countdowns!? Are you NOT leveraging the power of spreadsheets?! ===== Glad System is reading the writing on the wall. Plus, sad as it is to say, iron maiden vs. @admin was the piss break match. Everyone went to go get their popcorn. ===== @ness, revel in the glory of your subforum. It's glorious. Even better than CM Punk'd's music tournament subforum. THIS. IS. YOUR. LEGACY! ===== Sports. Who cares. Reminds me I need to submit my rivalries. Loved Dr. Emperor's cross-pollination in the WSM thread. ===== Of course you like my gimmick. -_- I don't mind non-submitters commenting in the countdown threads, as all discussion is always welcome. It's just that qualifier in the preamble "I didn't submit a list, but..." that grinds my grits the same way people not checking their own lists to remember where they ranked a movie grinds Lionheart's grits. In my case, just keep kayfabe BROTHER. Why do we need to know you didn't submit a list?! I also want to start an America's Most Wanted style list of most common offenders of the "I didn't submit a list, but..." do I know who to target with tag spamming for the remaining countdowns. ===== Good point on the various efforts to navigate off-site. Fuck that. That's why I want YouTube videos of any streams so that I can embed WITHIN our beloved PW. ===== Suck it, ya cereal rapists!!!

The casket match never gets love, or acknowledgement. Maybe it's good but the rest are way better? And maybe it didn't translate but I loved Ground Zero and I try and plug it whenever possible. Plus it's such a badass ppv name!

Plus it's such a badass ppv name! I think you hit the nail on the head. It's not that they're bad matches, just lesser to the Tokyo Dome seven-star epics that were the HIAC and WM matches. I think Ground Zero is just hurt by the non-finish. Similar to Taker/Brock I... not a bad match at all, but the non-finish I think knocks it down in comparison to some of their other stuff (although, it's still better than their Biker Chain Match).

Today I leaned the first HIAC match was Taker vs HBK!
I always thought it was Taker vs Kane. I don’t know where I got that idea from. Kane just interfered in the match.
PW News is fun AND educational!

How do you guys tally countdowns!? Are you NOT leveraging the power of spreadsheets?! Of course not. Pen, pencil with eraser, paper is the way for me. Maybe one of these days I'll look into these "spreadsheets" you speak of. Lex Luger vs. Rusev circa 1993 would have drawn some dimes.

Happy to crunch the data and pass the results back to you to work the reveal magic.

So I don't worry much about mistakes. But it is very time consuming. Aww No love for the Biker Chain Match? I haven't seen it since it happened, and nobody ever brings it up as a good match, but it was a lot of fun to watch live. You know I was invested- cheering for Taker, booing Brock.

I remember years ago I wrote a computer program to tally up countdowns for this purpose. It was advertised, and nobody used it.
To be fair, it was a bit cumbersome to use, and it's hard to program for cases where people make a typo in their list, or an item can be described in many different ways. Lists had to be formatted a specific way for it to work properly. But I feel that even if you had to manually edit the lists you received, overall it's a lot faster than doing it by hand. But the moment you start editing your input data, it becomes error prone, just like any other manual method.
T'was a fun little programming project though.
Spreadsheets is probably the best way.

I use notepad. I don't have office installed so it's my default program for typing stuff (I also use notebooks IRL for grocery lists, work notes, etc.), although even if I had excel it wouldn't have even crossed my mind to use it. Which is hilarious since the finalized product is nothing but rows that would've been perfect. But that also takes away a lot of the fun.
Now if I was doing ut level amounts of work, yeah spreadsheet it. Now that I think about it... using excel makes the top 100 less daunting for him.

I use basic notepad too , but I have it down to a pretty good science and it generally doesn't take me as long as it used too. The Top 10 lists I can fly through - the Top 100 lists have taken me 10 - 15 minutes a piece depending on how many repeats are in there.
Spreadsheets are for pussies.
