"RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!"
So after years of waiting since the announcement of a new expansion team in Seattle (finally, a city that SHOULD have hockey in America) we finally got the team name reveal and it was the one I was hoping they would choose: the Seattle Kraken.
With it comes a primary and alternate logo as well as the wordmark. Apparently the logo takes inspiration from the original Seattle Metropolitans franchise but other than both being the letter S, I don't see it.
Personally I feel the logo may grow on people but still feel it would have looked better with the S wrapped around the secondary anchor logo (it does come off looking like a seahorse or a fishhook) but all in all anything is better than the "Totems".
We also got a reveal on the home sweater they'll be wearing for the inaugural 2021-22 season:
I figured they would have went with green somewhere in there but the color scheme is unique enough that it works for me; reminds me of the Reds' Double A affiliate the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Not sure about the alternating shades of blue on the sleeves though...
I don't think they'll reach the same kind of instant success that Vegas did recently but I'm looking forward to seeing them hit the ice next year regardless.
