Best Of The Best 1: The Beginning
The Astrodome, Houston, TX
Undisputed Heavyweight Championship Of The World
Bret "The Hitman" Hart vs "The King Of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura
Best Of The Best kicks off with a colossal inaugural event in the Houston Astrodome with 7 HUGE matches, each with so much at stake, including 3 Undisputed Best Of The Best World Titles. The production will be a grand spectacle with elaborate settings and entrances with no limitations. The opening contest will be a special "Hybrid Wrestling Rules" match between Taz and Ultimate Fighting superstar, Brian Pillman's hired personal bodygaurd... KIMO! Kimo is one of the wildest fighters from the no rules bareknuckle era of UFC history. The Hawaiian fighting legend Kimo became one of the first big stars in the UFC with an incredible aura and presence in the Octagon where he gave Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock the toughest fights of their careers. Kimo made his BOTB debut in the second episode of BOTB: The Pride where he choked Taz unconscious to save Brian Pillman from an attack. Taz is the ultimate invincible bad ass that had never been submitted and RARELY ever pinned, he's dominated martial artists and pro wrestlers from all different backgrounds in his ECW run, Mauy Thai kickboxers, Hart Family Dungeon graduates, even UFC veteran Paul Varelans got choked out back at ECW Hardcore Heaven 96. Kimo made one hell of a statement when he choked Taz out, even if he did Pearl Harbor Taz, nobody has ever just choked Taz unconscious like this....
The two men exchanged heated words in promos and eventually had to be pulled apart by a mob of BOTB security after a face to face altercation in the ring on the third episode of BOTB: The Pride. The weigh ins aired during the 4th "go-home" episode of BOTB: The Pride and were unnervingly tense as both men weighed in around the 250 mark in peak physical condition before staring each other down face to face at the podium for the media and fans watching on. Brian Pillman backed Kimo during the staredown and taunted Taz by spitting in his face, causing a violent melee that crashed the entire press conference and resulted in Taz being carried out of the building in handcuffs by police.
The contract has been signed, Taz and Kimo will clash head to head in a special attraction "Hybrid Rules" match in the opening contest of Best Of The Best 1: The Beginning. The rules for this match will be a variation of the classic UWF shoot style wrestling rules in Japan. The only way to win will be by submission, knockout, TKO(technical knockout, i.e. choked unconscious), or stoppage by the referee or a doctor. There will be no pinfalls and the match is strictly prohibited from going outside the ring at any point. To level the playing field for Kimo's background in Ultimate Fighting all punches, chokes, and strikes will be legal and there will not be rope breaks of any kind. There will also be no 10 counts for knockdowns, the match will go on until one man can no longer compete. Has Taz finally met his match? Can the man they call Kimo stop the Human Suplex Machine!? At BOTB 1: The Beginning in the Houston Astrodome in front of nearly 68,000 fans these two men will enter the ring and only 1 of them will walk away...
The second match on the card will see the ring ropes replaced with electrified explosive barbed wire. Never before has a feud escalated to so much gruesome gratuitous violence as the ongoing saga between The Dudley Boys and Bushido(Hayabusa & Shinzaki). Both teams fought each other to a double countout on the first episode of BOTB: The Pride after the match ended with all four men brawling all over the Hammerstein Ballroom and Bubba Dudley taking a fall into a pile of thumb tacks! The rematch the next week ended in a double disqualification after chairs and tables were used, with Hayabusa being put through a flaming table with the Dudley Death Drop after the match was over, receiving 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his arms. Bushido retaliated the next week with Jinsei Shinzaki throwing a fireball into D-Von Dudley's face, temporarily blinding him in his left eye(causing him to wear an eye patch over it) and scarring his face with 2nd degree burns. The hatred and bitterness between the two teams escalated to the point where it was determined that both teams would settle their differences once and for all in an EXPLODING BARBED WIRE DEATH MATCH!!!
Over 68,000 fans in the Astrodome will bear witness to one of the most extremely violent and gruesome match types in all of wrestling, a staple from the FMW promotion that Hayabusa and Shinzaki were bred. The ECW veterans and TLC legends The Dudley Boys will be a formidable challenge in a match where chairs and weapons are legal, tables are legal, ladders, thumb tacks, everything goes! The Dudley Boys promo on the go home episode of BOTB: The Pride revealed that they were out for blood and that it would be an eye for an eye at BOTB 1: The Beginning! Lives and careers will truly be on the line when the pure hatred blood feud between The Dudley Boys vs Bushido gets settled finally once and for all!
The third match of the evening has all of the makings for an instant technical scientific mat wrestling classic, a match where two of the finest technical pro wrestlers will meet in a pure match for respect and glory, a #1 Contenders Match between "The Crippler" Chris Benoit against Japanese legend Minoru Suzuki. Benoit's lineage goes back to the Hart Family Dungeon in Calgary Alberta Canada where he was passed down the techniques of the legendary catch wrestling master Stu Hart. Suzuki's lineage shares a similar path as he was a star pupil of another catch wrestling grand master, "The God Of Wrestling" Karl Gotch, a graduate of the infamous "Snake Pit" in Wigan England. Suzuki vs Benoit will be a presentation of everything Best Of The Best is all about, scientific mat wrestling between two of the masters of their crafts, Stu Hart's prodigy vs Karl Gotch's prodigy, The Snake Pit vs The Dungeon, Canada vs Japan. The winner of this contest will be the top contender to the Best Of The Best Undisputed Heavyweight Championship Of The World and will put themselves in position for a title shot at Best Of The Best 2: The Revenge.
The Undisputed World Tag Team Championship will be on the line in a NO DISQUALIFICATION match between The Legion Of Doom and The Eliminators in the fourth match of the evening. The contract was signed for the bout on the debut episode of BOTB: The Pride with The Eliminators showing respect to Legion Of Doom as one of their biggest influences in their own careers. The Eliminators made it clear that all of their respect for LOD would be gone at Best Of The Best 1: The Beginning when the titles were on the line. The LOD responded in heated fashion and things escalated to a brawl that cleared out the locker room to pull the two teams apart. The next week Saturn squared off against Animal in a one on one showdown, pulling off a clean pinfall after a ferociously competitive match. The two teams had a tense showdown after the match after Animal refused Saturn's offer for a handshake. Hawk would score a clean pin over Kronus the next week on BOTB: The Pride but The Eliminators chopped him in half with the Total Elimination after the match. Animal came out to rescue Hawk and run The Eliminators off with a steel chair.
Later that same night Saturn challenged Bret "The Hitman" Hart in the main event but the match ended without a winner after Kronus came out to help Saturn nail Bret with the Total Elimination while the ref was knocked out. LOD came out to attack The Eliminators, hitting Kronus with the Doomsday Device. During episode 4 of BOTB: The Pride both teams insisted on adding the stipulation that there would be no disqualifications in their clash at BOTB 1: The Beginning, there will be a winner, there will be Undisputed World Tag Team Champions!!!
The fifth match on the card will be one of the featured co-main events of the evening, an X-Division showdown between dangerous Japanese Buzzsaw Yoshihiro Tajiri against next-level high flying ace Samuray Del Sol for the vacant BOTB Undisputed World X-Division Championship! The X-Division in Best Of The Best is not about weight limits, it is about no limits. Tajiri and Del Sol put that motto on display when they clashed for the vacant title in the main event of the first episode of BOTB: The Pride. The bout ended in a thrilling 15 minute television time limit draw that was praised as the highlight of the entire first 4 episodes of BOTB: The Pride. The contract was signed for the rematch with no time limit at BOTB 1: The Beginning. At the contract signing Tajiri spit green mist into Del Sol's eyes before leaving him laying after repeated Buzzsaw kicks to the body and head. The next week Del Sol revealed a special mask that he plans to wear in his match against Tajiri that will shield his eyes from Tajiri's poisonous mist.
The main event of the fourth episode of BOTB: The Pride seen the makeshift tag team of Chris Benoit & Samuray Del Sol clash with Minoru Suzuki & Yoshihiro Tajiri in another wild match that ended in a double disqualification. After the match Del Sol hit Tajiri with a corkscrew moonsault dive off of a balcony in the Hammerstein Ballroom while Benoit and Suzuki both simultaneously had each other locked in straight footholds refusing to give up or release their hold in the ring until a mob of referees finally pulled them apart.
The sixth match of the night will be the co-main event of the evening, a special attraction Mixed Tag Team Match that has drawn a firestorm of controversy in the build up to it. Brian Pillman has wreaked absolute havoc on Best Of The Best starting with his debut when he crashed a match between Alex Shelley vs Taz on the opening episode of BOTB: The Pride. In his debut promo Pillman dropped a worked shoot pipebomb, he's got 99 problems and a smart fucking mark ain't one of them. The next week on episode 2 of BOTB: The Pride Alex Shelley called out Brian Pillman for costing him in his match against Taz, a match that would have put him in position for a potential title shot down the road in BOTB. Pillman never answered Shelley's challenge but addressed him in a promo later that night, revealing that he had a video tape of Alex Shelley that he was going to reveal to the BOTB audience the following week...
The same night that Pillman made his debut it was announced and signed for the following week that Alexa Bliss would meet Sasha Banks in a match for the vacant BOTB Undisputed Womens World Championship title. Alexa Bliss made it out for the match but Banks was found injured backstage before she was set to walkout. Somebody attacked Sasha Banks and injured her knee, but who was it? Brian Pillman accused Alex Shelley and promised to reveal video tape footage of the incident. Alexa Bliss was awarded the title due to forfeit as Banks was unable to make it to the ring. On the third episode of BOTB: The Pride Alex Shelley revealed the security tape footage that it was in fact Brian Pillman that attacked and injured Sasha before her match for the title the previous week. Pillman later took full credit for injuring Sasha Banks before revealing that his video tape that he has in his possession has nothing to do with the incident, it's in fact... a sex tape, and Pillman promised to air it live on BOTB: The Pride the next week, there was nothing anybody could do to stop him!
Later that night Sasha Banks defied doctors orders and faced Alexa Bliss for her BOTB Undisputed Womens Championship. With her knee injured Banks was no match for Alexa but she fed off of the support of the crowd to make a spirited comeback. Brian Pillman came out and pulled the referee out of the ring just as Sasha had Alexa finished. Banks kicked Pillman in the balls as he tried to go after her in the ring but Alexa recovered and dropped her from behind. Pillman held Sasha up for Alexa to attack her until Alex Shelley came running out for the save. Shelley worked Pillman over until Kimo came out and floored him with punches. Taz came running out to go after Kimo but referees and security were able to swarm the ring to hold them apart while Brian Pillman and Alexa Bliss escaped the Hammerstein Ballroom together.
The next week on episode 4 of BOTB: The Pride Brian Pillman followed through on his promise to air the sex tape with Alex Shelley but as the video played it was revealed that the tape had nothing to do with Shelley, it was in fact a sex tape made with Brian Pillman and Alexa Bliss on a yacht in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It was late night on Showtime(Red Shoe Diaries!) level softcore porn with no real nudity actually shown but still, Pillman's "Sex, Lies, & Videotape" scandal rocked the BOTB universe and revealed a scandalous partnership between Pillman and Bliss that would turn BOTB upside down! The two would cut a promo together shortly after the controversial video was leaked with Alexa Bliss challenging Sasha Banks to find a tag team partner and face her and Pillman at BOTB 1: The Beginning. Alex Shelley finally confronted Brian Pillman face to face later that night on the go-home episode of BOTB: The Pride in an exchange of promos that lit up the screen and stole the show. Shelley was ultimately revealed as Sasha Bank's tag team partner and the match was set for the Houston Astrodome CO-MAIN EVENT!!!
The main event of the evening and the main attraction for Best Of The Best 1: The Beginning is without question "The Best there is, The Best there was, The Best there ever will be", "The Excellence Of Execution", the crown jewel of all professional wrestling; Bret "The Hitman" Hart... The greatest of all time....
Bret Hart finds himself as the eye of the storm of chaos, violence, and controversy that is Best Of The Best, a shining beacon of honor, family values, respect, and Pride, all of which will be put to the ultimate test over the next calendar year inside the BOTB universe. Bret is the ultimate master of the professional wrestling craft and his skills were showcased on the first episode of BOTB: The Pride when he defeated Chris Benoit by submission in the quarterfinals of the tournament for the vacant Best Of The Best Undisputed Heavyweight Championship Of The World. Earlier that same night on the other side of the tournament bracket "The King Of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura scored a huge upset victory over Minoru Suzuki. The finals of the tournament were set and signed the very next week, Shinsuke Nakamura would face the ultimate challenge when he stepped inside the ring as a heavy underdog to face Bret Hart in front of over 68,000 fans in the Houston Astrodome in the main event of Best Of The Best 1: The Beginning!
On episode 2 of BOTB: The Pride Shinsuke Nakamura and Bret Hart met face to face in the ring in the special honorary ceremony to make the Championship match official. The Hitman was uncharacteristically cocky in his promo that night, being critical of the future generation of professional wrestlers that Nakamura represents, saying that he plans to teach Nakamura a wrestling lesson in the Astrodome to prove that he truly is the best there ever will be. Nakamura called his shot like Babe Ruth stepping up to the plate when he promised to knock Bret out. Nakamura smacked Bret in his face, forcing Bret to respond by pie facing Nakamura down into the podium and brawling around on the canvas with him in a wild scene.
The next week on episode 3 of BOTB: The Pride Bret put his title shot on the line against top contender Perry Saturn, who was coming off of a huge victory over Road Warrior Animal the previous week. Saturn pushed Bret to his limits but Bret was able to make a comeback. Eventually the referee was knocked out. Saturn's tag team partner Kronus came out to interfere and help Saturn drop Bret with their patented "Total Elimination" finisher. Bret was saved when the Legion Of Doom came out to attack The Eliminators, dropping Saturn with a double team piledriver before knocking Kronus out with their Doomsday Device. Bret had Saturn locked in the Sharpshooter as the referee regained consciousness but Nakamura came out and followed through on his promise and nailed Bret with a running knee strike to the face, knocking him out cold and ending the match in disqualification. It was revealed the following week on episode 4 of BOTB: The Pride that Bret had suffered a concussion at the hands of Nakamura and that doctors were urging him not to compete at the Best Of The Best 1: The Beginning main event. Bret revealed that he plans to defy doctors orders and wrestle Nakamura for the Championship. The go home episode of BOTB: The Pride revealed training montages for both men, revealing the level of preparation that both have gone through and their desires to be... THE BEST OF THE BEST....
