KING KID, c — How do yinz assess what stocks to play and how to play them? Been debating getting day-trading going here and quitting my job (or rather let them fire me after figuring out I've stopped working). It's the only alternative I can come up with to venturing into a trade at the moment.

I knew weed stocks would soar heading into the Election so I got in cheap and I am making BANK. You need to study, go on sites, figure out how to read charts which I'm not great at and just hope for the best. PS- This is the most rigged election in American history.

TLRY is at 9.18 right now. If it hits 10.88, I will have cleared 5K in profits in 5 days.
That is fucking insane!
PS- I am being greedy here and not setting stop losses or limit sells. I want to ride this shit as high as it can go. If it hits the 11s, I will set a stop loss at 10.88 so I can get that 5K no matter what.
What a rollercoaster week.

Well turns out that the WallStreetBets kids were not very smart long term and moreso likely capitalized on exploiting COVID to the fullest. Most already lost the money they made on COVID by making stupid bets. The COVID bets were genius though. But investing in a failing market is a lot easier than a stable one. Motley Fool is where I would. Pretty straight forward investment site. Investing is really reading the market. I have no money in right now as I am paying off debt, but will likely get into it when my debt is paid off in a few months. Note that daytrading is basically gambling and you can face ruin at anytime even with the smartest bets if a black swan event occurs and the market crashes. In a stable market, hard to make much money. But when the market crashes, buying when everything low usually pays off bigtime. www.fool.com/

CT looking to legalize now that New Jersey did. Likely the next block of states will not wait for elections. Yeah and TLRY was once $300 so I think $100 is possible. I bought back in just now at $10.18. I have no shame. I got extra shares too. I’m going to ride this Biden weed train until the wheels fall off.

Even professional fund managers, people who study individual stocks all day, have a hard time beating S&P 500 index funds.

Is that just a bunch of internet malarkey?

Is that just a bunch of internet malarkey? Like at a casino you can go on a streak, but it will all come crashing down at some point. At least the casino has predictable odds; the stock market is ruled by fear and greed in the short term. It is semi-rational in the long term of multiple years. Also people on the internet generally post things that are favorable to them and don’t include the bad news. You can’t really trust those sites.

Often the people who post about penny stocks are already invested at a much lower price, then they try to build enthusiasm for the stock online. Then, when it jumps up they cash out and when the brief enthusiasm is over and it comes crashing down, the suckers are left holding the bag.

So you think you're better off dumping shares into a traditional index fund from vanguard or fidelity and pulling a Ronco Rotisserie and "set it and forget it"?

I have my current 401k set to 100% Vanguard S&P 500. I set it once and forgot it. When I rolled over previous 401Ks to IRAs I have big chunks of it in index funds with some Apple and AT&T and a fe others that I've had for 10 years.

Vanguard ETFs all the way, buy and forget Nearly every investment fund in the world with legit geniuses on the pay roll, can't beat a good index fund, the problem used to be the loss to fees, but Vanguard is super low.

Yeah, that's pretty much the optimal plan. Set up automatic transfers to plow at least 15% of your money into low-cost index funds, set to reinvest dividends, then wait a few decades. It isn't exciting or sexy, but it works.

I would mix the funds or choose one that has a mix of domestic and international shares as well as bonds. I would also add an investment property at some point to increase diversification. But of course don't hold money in shares that you may need access to, hold enough cash for emergencies. A really good simple book on the topic is richest man in Babylon

It's pretty good and the parable structure makes it easy to digest. I'm re-reading The Millionaire Next Door which is very interesting.

I've been investing and day trading. I invested in DKNG when it was DEAC and made an unbelievable profit off of it. I don't have the time to wait over a year for less taxes. When a stock goes parabolic, I sell it. I take the thousands. Will I get fucked in taxes? Probably. Bring it.

When a stock goes parabolic, I sell it. I take the thousands. Will I get fucked in taxes? Probably. Bring it. The vast majority of people who day trade lose money Even less make more money than if they had left their money in an index fund. I really like the movie Margin Call with Jeremy Irons where he says the three ways to make money are to either: be first, be the smartest or cheat. It's not that hard to see it as true. Most pump and dump scams are in the penny stock arena and when you eventually hear about them it's when the original pumpers are selling them off. Also, I have the very unpopular opinion that the tech sector is massively overvalued, especially the darling stocks like appl and tsla people act like they will have exponential growth forever. I am massively bearish on Tesla... But I'm not going to short it because autists are pushing its value through the roof and calling it a new paradigm.
