Once again I'll vote for Fairytale over damn near anything.

I think these two are 1A and 1B of top Christmas pop songs and it just depends on your personal preference which one is which.

Fairytale is extremely divisive in my family, but it's receiving near universal praise here. Interesting.
I like them both but prefer Mariah Carey's tune.

Is it true that Fairytale of New York is band? Banned by the BBC anyway, though I did hear it on our local radio station on Christmas Eve Day.

It has a naughty word in the lyrics (faggot). I hear it on the radio/TV a lot, with that word censored out.

Yeah it’s not banned at all by the BBC, they play it all the time. One of their radio stations plays a new version with you’re cheap and you’re haggard, which is what Kirsty mccoll herself started singing in live versions as it became clear how the f word became much more offensive than it was when the recording was made. But it isnt banned in any way by the BBC. Fake news.

This goes back decades. There are three versions of this song that get played. The unedited one, the Top of the Pops one with the alt lyrics and the US / MTV version where they mute faggot, slut and arse. The Top of the Pops one is the one now playing on the UK radio after a backlash when they tried to do the MTV this season. Nick Cave railed against this in his blog. www.theredhandfiles.com/censorship-fairytale-of-new-york/
