Didn't have high hopes for the game tonight considering the list of guys unavailable. On a positive note the power play is looking better, Kreider was a beast around the net and Zibanejad at least got a couple of assists even though his finishing is still terrible. I have no idea why it's taken so long to put Kreider in that position regularly, having seen how effective it was tonight it needs to become the regular tactic. The next step is to get guys like Buchnevich and Strome to shoot the puck more often and play for rebounds, rather than constantly trying to pass the puck through traffic which they seem obsessed by.
On the flipside they basically wasted all that by taking far too many penalties, which combined with more regular defensive breakdowns than typical led to far too many quality chances for Philly, even though Shesty played pretty well. Miller going on the Covid list with Trouba out is brutal.

Miller going on the Covid list with Trouba out is brutal. This is the Kreider I have been waiting for. Just like Rick Nash, if he wants to skate, be physical, own the ice, these guys are unstoppable because of the combination of their speed, size, and hands. Nice to see Blackwell get a promotion. He looked like a regular on the powerplay. I do like when coaches reward hard work instead of consistently play skilled guys with no results. Overall, I liked the Rangers effort. I would take that effort and loss over a messy win. Not surprised the Canadiens came back down to Earth. Their roster is just not good enough. Sorry, but they are overrated, which is nothing new. They are Stanley Cup favorites every year because of their location. Toffoli lighting up the defenseless Oilers is not a ticket to the playoffs. I don't see Julien being fired if this was a regular 82 game season. It has been a bad stretch, but doesn't lead to being fired in a normal regular season otherwise every coach would be fired.

It is quite surprising, but since Panarin left the Rangers have played much harder together. I think it is because they ha e realized that they don't have one player to lean on so they have to be more involved as a team if they want any shot at the playoffs.
Kreider has been so much better recently. Forget about goals and points. I just want to see him play and work harder, which he has and guess what he is scoring goals.
Rangers bottom six depth is coming through. Blackwell and Gauthier have been a great surprise. But, when you think about it these types of players are working every night to stay in the lineup. You need those guys because they are tough to play against.
Similar with Panarin, since Trouba has been out the Rangers defense has been stronger together. As long as this team plays hard and smart they can be a tough team to play against.
And, I would take this young hard working team that loses every night than a half assed effort that is a bubble playoff team. Good decisions lead to growth and success.

Jets continue to be a garbage team with a Vezina goalie bailing them out. I'm so sick of Coach Maurice and the lineup decisions he makes and the lies he tells the media. So glad we traded Laine for a top centre...only to play that top centre as a winger on the top line. I think we had a top line winger didn't we?
In other news Columbus is terrible but Roslovic is putting up the points. So glad we gave him away for nothing and he's doing point per game.

Splitting with Boston isn't a bad result at all, I just wish I'd got to watch Friday's game rather than today's dire showing! Think you might have jinxed things with that positive post Zappy. I'm yet to see a team get completely stonewalled like the Rangers did here, they were barely able to muster a single good chance all game. Boston threw a couple of hits early in the game and there was just no answer - Blackwell was literally the only guy who did anything all night. Very lackluster performance.

The Jets have enough potential to make the playoffs and they're blowing it because Maurice is stale and the team isn't working together like they could be. I can't believe Montreal fired Julien before the Jets fired Maurice.

The Leafs kept the Oilers to just a single goal in the three game sweep. Pretty impressive, if you ask me.

Kreider has just been fantastic the past few games. Talk about answering the call with Panarin out. Lafreniere and Buchnevich have also really picked up their play - and Quinn positively impacted a game for the first time by benching Zibanejad for Chytil.
Hopefully Shesterkin's injury isn't too serious. I don't know what the Rangers did to offend the hockey gods but it seems like they can never have anything nice.

Matt Barzal just scored the goal of the year I was going to come in here and post about how Adam Fox's coast to coast goal was the slickest thing ever and how he is rapidly ascending up my favourite human being list and then I saw this sorcery.

Would have been nice if the Rangers didn't wait until the third period to start playing today. As usual a lot of talk after the game about the need to put in a "60 minute effort" but I think I agree with some of the posters on the subreddit who believe the problem is mainly tactical and the lack of an offensive system.

Ooof, diabolical game tonight. Georgiev has been total trash recently, he's completely lost confidence and is letting in numerous long shots even when he's not screened. Kinkaid should be playing until Shesterkin comes back. I expect the Fire Quinn crew to be out in force after this one, you can tell that the guys in the studio are holding back from being even more critical than they are. Whipping the Devils was fun but the Rangers have been convincingly outplayed in these last three games against Boston and Philly and those teams aren't even in particularly good form.

Rangers need Panarin back badly if they want any shot of winning games. Now why there is no mandatory quarantine from Russia, but there is from Canada is odd to say the least. But, lets just not bring that up.
The heat Georgiev is getting is unfair. Allowing a shorthanded goal is not his fault. Bruins made the Rangers look silly on that goal, which should not even happen in the first place. Marchand beat three Rangers on that play. And, Bergeron is alone in the slot. One timer in the slot for Debrusk all alone I mean sure Georgiev's fault he needs to play defense too and cover the forwards I guess.
I read an article from the hockey god Brooks who blamed Georgiev for not being able to stop breakaways. That is ridiculous.
If people want to complain about a long range shot fine, but that is only a goal or two, and it just hides the real issues on this team. Plus, you are not going to win games if you do not score.

The Leafs and Jets game last night was the best game I've watched all season. I would probably still be saying that even if the Leafs lost. Just so much fun.

Sens with a win over the almost first place Leafs! Daccord (Ok in English) got his first win. Now, the Sens will lose 10 in a row to the Oilers.
Rangers a complete turn around against the Bruins. Panarin is back so hopefully they can string some wins together. Keith Kinkaid with a shutout? What?

Sabres fired their head coach. Started the season ok, but no Ullmark and Eichel this team does not have a good chance. Hall has been a massive disappointment, and Skinner probably has the worst contract in the league.

You obviously can't put it all down to the coaches not being there because of COVID but it's clearly a pretty bad look for DQ how explosive they looked tonight.
Let's hope this is finally the night that gets Zibanejad going for the rest of the season. Crazy how he's been so below par and then comes out and ties the all time record with a six point period. Great to see the team spirit with everyone celebrating with him and Georgiev given their (recent) struggles.
Woah!

I was surprised to learn that the only other player to do that was Trottier and not Gretzky. Crazy stat, especially in the current NHL. ... Leafs let go of Jimmy Vesey and it's looking like Alex Galchenyuk is going to slot in. I'm wary of him but if any team is going to turn his career around it's the Leafs. They have an awesome development team and more firepower than most of the league. Hope he works out.

Georgiev is way too good. Not surprised at all that he bounced back. After witnessing him tough it out in an unbelievable comeback in Montreal last year he can definitely bounce back to his regular form. They need to role with him until Sheshterkin comes back.
Hopefully this game gets Zibanejad going. He is the key to making the playoffs or not.
Flyers just stopped playing defense, but it is very interesting how the Rangers exploded without Quinn.

I'm forever going to be pissed that the Leafs didn't grab Gorgiev when they had the chance. Andersen is done after this year and Jack Campbell is not a proven starter. Gorgiev/Campbell as a tandem though? Sign me the fuck up. Unless Dubas has some magic up his sleeve we're fucked on goaltending for the next year at least.

The Kaapo Kakko version of Barbra Streisand has made my day. Nice to see him break his goal drought.
I think this is definitely the best the team has looked all season, that's four wins from the last six to finally get above .500. Finally getting point contributions from all of the top guys at once, looking forward to seeing Kravtsov added to the mix.

These long breaks are stupid. Leafs were off for 5 days, played b2b against Calgary, then off another 5 days. So dumb.
It's nice out, I'm BBQing tonight, I got a few beers leftover from the weekend....no Leafs game until Thursday. Frig off.
