Damn, I just heard yesterday he was sick. Loved his run with Doom in WCW and thought the WWF could have used him better in 1987/88. Just an all around bad ass.
RIP Hacksaw

One of my all time favorites. His Mid-South stuff is great. I was at the Sam Houston Coliseum for the dog collar match that was part of his legendary feud with JYD and a few other of his matches.
RIP

This sucks. I didn't know about his recent health issues.
Butch had a legendary run in Mid South, a good run teaming with Ron Simmons as Doom in WCW, and was part of a memorable angle in WWF when he and the One Man Gang injured Superstar Billy Graham in late 1987.
Watched the classic Doom/Horsemen street fight at Starrcade 90 when I heard the news. I was a big fan of Butch's odd couple pairing with Buddy Landel in Mid South. They were a hoot together. Their vignettes were about the closest Mid South came to sports entertainment. So I also watched a Butch & Buddy vs. Rock & Roll Express match when I couldn't find any of their outside the ring segments.
RIP Butch Reed

In retrospect, The Natural was not a great run, but as my first view of Butch Reed it left a great impression on me. He just seemed like a star, looked like one, acted like one, through sheer charisma I thought he was better than he might have actually been during that period, which I mean 100% as a compliment. That's fucking wrestling, baby.
His Doom run was awesome. Ron's best partner ever (fuck you, Bradshaw). I was still young enough where heels scared me, but I was always hyped to see them.
I always thought it was odd that he sort of disappeared after the Doom run. I think we spoke about this in the past and some reason was given, but dude not having a run in early ECW is a missed opportunity, I'm not hearing any differing opinion about that.
I really should watch his Hacksaw days, see him at his best.

Butch Reed should have had a run with the NWA title in the 1980's. Hacksaw was that good back then. RIP to a true legend.
