It was a much closer loss than the score tends to indicate too. That fumble at the goal line was a killer (and I repeat, one of the dumbest rules in sport) then they had the missed challenge that probably cost them another seven points, and then a couple more big plays that they left out on the field.
I think it does prove that they need to get home field advantage to make it through the playoffs though. I don't see them winning in Minnesota for instance.

McCown and Kearse have earned 2018 returns. Sheldon Richardson trade has been worth it for Kearse alone. McCown would be fine as a starter next year. As long as the Jets have a component rookie with potential to grow into something more than just a guy. Agreed Ed at worst even if McCown struggles next year...hed serve as a mentor to whoever is picked. I think if Bowles can somehow someway find a win next week in the no fly zone in mile high against CJ, Von, Talib, dey, Sanders and the gang....he might be head coach next year. He steals a win vs NO, LAX or BE and yeah..... Robbie Anderson and Enunwa in 2018. 😍

In typical Jets fashion, they'll lose next week to the Broncos. It's a lock. Lol.
Honestly, I hated Todd Bowles but that man deserves respect for what he did with this team this season. They were supposed to be where the Giants are right now. Instead, they're 5-7 and 2 games back of a wildcard spot. They are not going to get it, but if they can beat Denver next week and if Baltimore loses, anythings possible.

It might be wishful thinking, but if Ben does indeed retire, I'd love to see the Steelers push and acquire Eli if the Giants let him go (no more guaranteed money), he turns the ball over more, but an otherwise similar production. It's pretty much the best case scenario for Ben's retirement, and there's not really another hopeful scenario out there. Unless that Dobbs kid ends up being sufficient, it's that, or suck until they can find someone suitable. As great as Brown and Bell are, you need a QB who can get it to Brown (doesn't matter how open he is if the pass isn't near him), and a pass game that can open up the run (Bell's great, not built for a loaded box on every play)...even worse if Bell skips town for a payday.
Just not sure if the Giants are that goofy in the head to let go of their best option, unless they're pushing to rebuild.

So Ben McAdoo and Jerry Reese have both been fired. To make things feel better, the Giants have put Eli Manning back in as starter. Former teammates will be coming to the game against Dallas next week in Eli Manning jerseys to show solidarity towards him. That's awesome.
Giants will win the Super Bowl next season. Mark my words.

Honestly they probably do need to move on from Eli when the year is out, or at the very least look into drafting his eventual replacement. Eli is not getting any younger and his best days are clearly behind him, which is why I wouldn't have been so upset if they would have put the rookie Davis in to see what he's got. But Eli deserved far better than being scapegoated for all of the Giants issues. Wasn't the first time he had been thrown under the bus by McAdoo either.

The Eli saga over the past week has tended to overshadow the fact that McAdoo deserved to go solely based on the performance of his offence over the past two seasons, which is bottom-three in basically every statistical category, right down with the Bears and Browns during that time period. As an offensively minded coach it is simply unacceptable that he hasn't led the team to a 30-point game since being elevated.
Can't say I'm overly upset about Reese being shown the door either, while he played a key part in building the two Super Bowl teams, and his FA splurge two off seasons ago was a success, his drafting has been rather poor for some time now. He's failed to address the major issue that has been hamstringing the team for numerous years, and that can only be tolerated for so long. I'd love to see Dave Gettleman come back to the Giants.

Odd first possession by Ben - a beautiful timing route with Brown, but then a weird ball slip and then a ugly inteception.

Shazier's injury seems to have (understandably) rocked the Steelers. Upset alert here!

I predicted the Bengals to win this one. Big Ben is historically bad in Cincinnati so his bad start doesn't surprise me.
If Cincinnati wins this game, they're 6-6 and right in that wildcard fight.

Now Mixon's knocked out - there's not going to be anyone left at this rate. Brutal game so far.

Typical Bengals. They just let Leveon Bell run it in for a TD.

Gruden has been hilarious tonight; Antonio Bryant, Jojo Schuster-Smith and Randall Gay. No wonder Pittsburgh are losing with all these replacement players...

Juju just became a Steelers legend by laying out Burfict. He has now been taken out of the game on a cart. Insanity. Love these AFC North rivalries. They're so hardcore.

The headhunting here is making this game difficult to watch. I don't expect them to handle it properly, but the league needs to come down hard on both teams after this.

Once again, Cincinnati shoots themselves in the foot, and blew up a winnable game.
I think Marvin's getting a pink slip this year.
Outscored 23-3 after being up 17-0.

I know they're humans and all, but this is my favorite kind of football. There's hard hitting, physical play, and then there's straight dirty play and both teams crossed the line tonight. Guys out there headhunting after what happened to Shazier is disgusting.

Completely disagree with calling the game straight dirty, there was only 2 hits the entire night that could be considered dirty, the block by Juju and the hit right after on Brown. The hit on Mixon was completely clean, he took a shoulder to the head in the middle of a double tackle, unfortunate, not dirty. And I don't buy head hunting at all, Juju had to react quick and was just barely too high, almost a good block (shouldn't have taunted though); and even on the hit on Brown, looked like he came in shoulder first. It was two teams playing as hard as they could, brutal, not dirty.
Spinal contusion for Shazier, hopefully no worse than Maddox had back in his day.

The benching of Eli was a complete botch. All of it would have a bit more understandable if he was benched for Davis Webb instead of Geno Smith. Hopefully, Eli can have a good finish to the season.

Sucks what happened to Shazier, but if we're being totally honest here he brought that on himself. He's been spearing with the crown of his helmet since he's been in the league, it just bit him on the ass this time.

So why is it the same penalty for JuJu, Iloka, and Gronk? I'm not the most avid football fan, and certainly no expert, but it's clear as day even to me that there were differences between all three hits. If the consequence is the same for all three, why not just say fuck it and gronk opposing players if it might make strategic sense?

It's because Pittsburgh and Cincy have a history of going at each other like this, dirty plays and all, while this is the first time to my knowledge Gronk has ever blatantly cheap-shotted someone.
