I mean, #HEEL mikec has my vote now with Matchstick Men... But as a comedy? I guess if 50 First Dates technically works as a drama, MM can technically work as a comedy. Drafting my #1 saves me the effort of having to do a by the 🐈😸😺😾🐈 later on. IMDB and Google both had it as a comedy, so I decided to go for it. I just meant it more in the way that I didn't really guffaw at anything in Matchstick Men. Regardless of category, I'm a million percent happy you took MM.

Also going to just let it go this time because it wasn’t caught and no harm no foul but let’s try to make sure we grab PG movies or lower for Children’s flicks. No harm no foul , just a PSA. Finding Nemo was PG-13!?!?!?

Lost in Translation and Old School making it this far is remarkable. Shame on all of you. Really shocked mikec didn’t grab it earlier. I thought it would make it. I’m going to go Action/Thriller - Old Boy And for Drama - William H. Macy as a sad sack loser who makes gamblers unlucky as a profession only to find love (and luck) in The Cooler. RT

Wild Card
Bad Santa
Don't care if anyone likes this pick or not, Mrs RT and I watch it every Christmas Eve while getting drunk and wrapping presents. It's one of my favourite things we do together.

See I thought about taking Old Boy but I’ve not seen it and so I’d be picking it just for votes and I wouldn’t be happy with that. Family/Children: It’s not like there’s much of a chance against Nemo and I should take Brother Bear for the Hosers but it wasn’t a favourite of mine so I’ll go with Cheaper By the Dozen cause I love me some Steve Martin and it’s a PG version of Parenthood. Action: So this is the category in I haven’t seen a lot of the movies or they are crap. I’ve narrowed it down to 2, neither of which I think will garner me much support but hell with it I like Vampires and you all should like Kate Beckinsdale as a vampire in a leather cat suit. UnderworldRT

So for wildcard I initially thought about The Cooler but I wound up in such a place on dramas that I had to do something there instead. So now I’ve got a grab bag of other movies that I enjoyed this year but we’re little seen. There’s American Splendor about Harvey Pekar, A Mighty Wind which is lesser Christopher Guest but still Christopher Guest and the music at the end is good, and on the other end of that is the brutal 21 Grams which has my favorite Sean Oenn movie if this year.
But I think my favorite movie of 2003 that hasn’t been picked is Capturing the Friedman’s so that’s my wildcard pick.

Might be one of the closer votes yet for me just giving a once over to all the rosters of movies. Will have to come back and ramble my way through it.

First of all, I’d like to say thanks as always to UT for running things. I look forward to these even when I’m just following along. Secondly, I’d like to say awesome job by my esteemed colleagues, there are a couple movies out of all the movies chosen I’ve not seen and there isn’t one I wouldn’t check out or re-watch. Head to head it’s a tie for drama, action and comedy. Blockbuster…I would have chosen LOTR if I hadn’t chosen POTC first so RT. Family movie: I can’t vote against Nemo. I love that movie. So mikec. Wild Card: I have not seen Capturing the Friedman’s but I may have to add it to my to see list for this year. That being said, I love Bad Santa and I know RT does too. Point to RT. Sequel: This one kills me as I SOOOOOOO wanted Love Actually. I have give the point to mikec That leaves them tied at two a piece but if I take in the overall lists, RT gets my vote as there’s not one on his list I dislike. There’s not one on mikec’s list I dislike either, just a couple I haven’t seen but I probably would. RT ’s list is just the strongest for me. Frankly, I’m shocked none of us chose this masterpiece I found on IMDB: Womb Raider (2003) When wealthy treasure hunter Cara Loft meets reclusive art collector, Dr. Scrotus, the sexy adventurer is thrust head on into the greatest and most dangerous erotic adventure of her life: the search for the three sacred "wombs." Other Something’s Got To Give Under the Tuscan Sun Warrior Queen – about Boudicea Beyond Borders Monster Bringing Down the House – ass planter for me To See House of Sand and Fog Bright Young Things - been on my list forever. I need to get around to it Gods and Generals The Shape of Things

Iron Maiden - Mystic River - I think I've been hard on this movie in the past , maybe too hard because I think it was getting compared to (a superior) Gone Baby Gone. It's a good movie and a really good pick for the category. 90 /100 Old School - Almost criminal it lasted as long as it did as not only is it the defining comedy of the year - it's in the conversation for defining comedy of the decade. It still holds up and remains imminently quotable as well. Absolute steal. 100/100 POTC - I don't care for the movies , mainly because I haven't watched them but it was an iconic movie and role for Depp and spawned an incredibly popular franchise. Can't get much more blockbuster-y than that. 90/100 Cheaper by the Dozen - Meh. Don't have a lot to say about this movie - it was pretty forgetabble for me and one I didn't go back to. She waited a til the end so I won't crush the pick but I think there were better options for sure. 80/100 How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days - I love Hudson and Matty Mac - it's a good romcom and I know even though I hold others in higher regard that there is a lot of love for this movie. 85/100 Elf - Double Dipping in Will Ferrell isn't a bad thing during this era and Elf (along with Old School) really put him on the map. Up there with Santa Clause and Home Alone as my holy trinity of Christmas movies. 95/100 Underworld - Don't know what exactly to make of the pick and should do more research to what I would have taken , maybe she waiting too long and this seemed like a punishment. No thank you. 75/100 Overall IM had a really good draft headed by the two Ferrell bombshells and baked up solidly in every other category aside from Action. A final score of 615/700 seems pretty solid but I have no idea as I just started this system. RT: Lost in Translation - Really surprised at how far it fell , especially with MikeC in the draft. One of the better all around picks in the draft and you can't go wrong with Murry and ScarJo. 95/100 Bruce Almighty - Another really good pick and one that fell , Bruce Almighty isn't my favorite movie in the world but it's solid and funny and was super popular that year. 90/100 Bore of the Borings: Return of the Bore - I'm not going to railroad against LOTR again , it's not my cup of tea. I can't argue with the pick though and was surprised it didn't go first. 90/100 School or Rock - Should I dock him 5 points for it not technically fitting the category? Probably. I haven't seen it in years and am very hot or cold on Jack Black so I rarely go out of my way to watch a movie of his. 80/100 Bad Santa - Another movie that I don't feel gets a ton of credit for how many people liked it at the time. I haven't seen it in quite awhile so I can't say how well it holds up but it's a good Wild Card pick. 85/100 Bay Boys 2 - It's one of my Top Ten favorites and I don't care how weird that is. It's an absolutely perfect buddy action cop movie complete with over the top Michael Bay shit going on. Imminently rewatcable and quotable. I love it. 100/100 Kill Bill - Meh. Personal taste can't allow me to give this too high of a grade because QT and all , but I can't disagree with the pick in what is allegedly a tough year for action. 90/100Overall it looks like 630/700 , I think backed up by just a ton of solid picks. I didn't think going in that RT was going to get my vote but it looks to be leaning that way now depending on what happens with mike. mikec:
The Cooler: I've never actually seen it , spending years in the industry really makes me shy away from a lot of casino or gambling movies unless they really get talked about amongst friends. I like Macy though and probably owe it a watch. 85/100 Matchstick Men: Really good movie and I like the play of putting it in comedy, mainly because it drew the ire of 🤯. 95/100 X2 - I don't even know what to give this one , I get so confused on where each X-Men movie rates amongst fans and which ones they liked. I think he took it a little early as well but who knows. 80/100Finding Nemo - Great first round pick , my favorite of the three movies and IMO it's top of the line Pixar and can definitely go back to watch it a ton. 100/100 Capturing the Friedmans - I have no idea what this is. It's Wild Card though so new standard of.... 80/100Love Actually - Another one I haven't seen but I know it's reputation and people really love it. 85/100 Old Boy - Never seen the original but have seen the remake and thought it was good , and no the original is touted as far superior. So I'm going to give my enjoyment of the remake 85/100 plus a 5 point boost for it being the OG. That makes enough sense to me. 90/100Overall it looks like a score of 615/700 which makes sense because I thought this would all be incredibly close. So RT - 630 Mike - 615 IM - 615 Tough year and I made it even tougher on y'all by switching the year at the last minute so definitely an admirable job. Like I said , this looked like one of the closer votes I was going to have so I decided on a little different scoring system. Really RT drafting one of my favorite movies of all time makes it look less close than it was. I can't not give any of my favorite movies a great grade though.

UT my second bizarre family true crime recommendation to you of the week, the bizarre Capturing the Friedmans - “ Documentary on the Friedmans, a seemingly typical, upper-middle-class Jewish family whose world is instantly transformed when the father and his youngest son are arrested and charged with shocking and horrible crimes.”

I'll start by saying that 1991 isn't a great year for me. Only two or three films I really love, a couple of films I like, that's about it. ironmaidenDramaSeen Mystic River, didn't really get it. 6/10 Comedy/HorrorOld School was a big hit although it doesn't appeal to me personally. 6/10 BlockbusterThe first Pirates film is widely regarded as the best. Certainly my favourite blockbuster of the year. 10/10 Children's Movie/Foreign LanguageDon't know anything about Cheaper By The Dozen. 6/10 Wild CardNever heard of it, vaguely intriguing. 6/10 Sequel/Holiday MovieElf is an easy top marks. Despite me generally disliking Will Ferrell, I love this film. Watched it the last three Christmases in a row and will continue to do so. 10/10 Action/ThrillerNever been interested in Underworld. 6/10 RTDramaLike Mystic River, I don't really get Lost in Translation either. Both movies bored me. 6/10 Comedy/HorrorNot seen it, has slightly more appeal than Old School. 7/10 BlockbusterVery strong pick but loses points because I'm not into LOTR. 8/10 Children's Movie/Foreign LanguageLove School of Rock. Don't know the maturity rating but seems like a children's film to me. 9/10 Wild CardEhhhh. 5/10 Sequel/Holiday MovieNot seen either Bad Boys movie. 6/10 Action/ThrillerThe Kill Bill films aren't awful, but my least favourite of Tarantino's work. 7/10 mikecDramaNever heard of The Cooler. 6/10 Comedy/HorrorMatchstick Men is awesome. 10/10 BlockbusterX2: ot as strong as the other two blockbusters. 7/10 Children's Movie/Foreign LanguageNever hugely into Finding Nemo, but obviously a strong pick. 8/10 Wild CardNo interest in this kinda movie. 4/10 Sequel/Holiday MovieIt's no Elf. 6/10 Action/ThrillerOldboy is in my Top 5 films of all time, easy 10/10. iron maiden - 50 RT - 48 mikec - 51 Very tight. All three scores a couple of big hitters each, with mostly decent films to round out their rosters. mikec narrowly crosses the finish line first thanks to the strength of picks such as Matchstick Men and Oldboy, both top 10 movies of mine which would have had him easily winning a tiebreak too.

Just to be sure Matchstick Men is strong enough on its lonesome to carry my vote, let's still take a look at the 🐈😸😺😾🐈 after all... ///// Drama: iron maiden's Mystic River > RT's Lost in Translation > #HEEL mikec's The Cooler Haven't seen or maybe even heard of The Cooler, so it brings up the rear here by default. Meanwhile, big fan of Mystic River and meh on Lost in Translation (although I do want to rewatch it after having now been to Tokyo). Point to IM. ///// Comedy/Horror: #HEEL mikec's Matchstick Men > iron maiden's Old School > RT's Bruce Almighty I mean, duh. BA gets points for establishing that Morgan Freeman is in fact god. Old School gets points for Will Ferrell being at his comedic peak IMO and tiddies. But Matchstick Men will forever and always be my jam. Point to The Heel. mikec, have you seen your pick? If not, I highly recommend it. ///// Blockbuster: iron maiden's Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl > #HEEL mikec's X2: X-Men United > RT's Lord of the Boring: Return of the Meh LOTR had diminishing returns with me for each subsequent movie, and the returns weren't all that great with the first. So, no soup for you, Arty. Then I recall X2 being perfectly mediocre, so middle of the pack here feels exactly right. Then there's Pirates. I'm thinking I sleep on this and underrate it as possibly the perfect blockbuster. As someone who was all out on Orlando Bloom after his exhausting LOTR run, and never really in on Johnny Depp, or Kiera Knightley with her itty bitty skeeter bites... This theme park ride-based movie was surprisingly fucking awesome, especially if I consider it in isolation from the increasingly shitty sequels. Point to IM. ///// Children's Movie/Foreign Language: RT's School of Rock > iron maiden's Cheaper by the Dozen > #HEEL mikec's Finding Nemo I'm always a low vote on Finding Nemo. Maybe something about fish nudity just irks me to my core? Meanwhile, really dig Cheaper... And LOVE School even despite Sarah Silverman. Point to Arty. It's a long way, to the top. If you want to rock and roll! ///// Wild Card: iron maiden's How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days > RT's Bad Santa > #HEEL mikec's Capturing the Friedman’s Michael goes to obscure with another total whiff, and I'm really starting to worry the power of Matchstick Men won't be enough to carry my vote after all. iron maiden drafts brilliantly again, and Arty does his middle of the pack thing with a pick that feels very Arty. Feeling like IM might steal my vote away from Matchstick Men... ///// Sequel/Holiday Movie: iron maiden's Elf > RT's Bad Boys 2 > #HEEL mikec's Love Actually Never seen Love Actually, not sure I ever care to. Bad Boys is a perfectly serviceable Arty pick for the middle of the pack, and iron maiden crushes the category with the GOAT holiday movie. ///// Action/Thriller: RT's Kill Bill Vol. 1 > iron maiden's Underworld > #HEEL mikec'S Old Boy Michael goes for Lionheart's favorite Korean movie all the time, and his pick sails right over my head. Haven't seen Underworld, but Click taught me I'd happily look at Kate Beckinsale for 90-120 minutes. And then Arty Farty finally ascends from the middle of the pack with a great QT pick to pick up a point here. ///// Applying the Ironmaiden Rule from the 1994 draft, iron maiden has 7 movies I'd gladly watch in a row and individually on repeat. That excellent strategic drafting is enough to combat the sole drawing power of Matchstick Men. To my surprise (and disappointment in mikec) I'm voting against my #1, and voting for IM.
