Penta vs Cody starting things off...

Pretty absurd lack of logic in that match. Penta kicks out of a Canadian Destroyer, a Vertebreaker and a Cross Rhodes only to get pinned by a roll up from a guy with an injured arm.

Jade Cargill is incredible, I honestly think she could very quickly become one of the biggest women's wrestlers of all time. Put her on posters and just cash the money.

The Pinnacle is a pretty good name for this stable.

Great promos there from Tully and MJF - I particularly liked the line about Jericho's weird cleavage. :lol:

I'll say this about Jade. Her German suplexes are scary. I worry that one of these days, one of her opponents will land on her neck because of it.

Moxley & Kingston just shooting the shit is so good. No script promos with charismatic dudes talking like real people makes me want to watch their matches!!

She is damn good. Very simple moveset but she makes the little things work with the charisma. She should not do a match anymore than 5-7 minutes okay but her and Raquel Gonzalez of NXT are so refreshing because they are so damn big and work every bit like it.

Excalibur's one liners on Callis are so great - "the living embodiment of pond scum" :lol:

There's like a million dudes on this roster so it feels redundant to talk about someone being underused but I really like Angelico.

Really looking forward to this main event! Fuck her up Rosa!

Holy shit this is good! Rosa's blood matching with her facepaint to make the Mexican flag colours is an amazing visual.

Baker has taken so many sick shots in the span of of like a year and half from Bea Priestley, the accident with Statlander and Nyla Rose, the Shida nose bust and now this.

She's tough as fucking nails. Pittsburgh strong.

Holy shit that was absolutely incredible. I'm actually a little bit overcome by all of that. Woah...

That match could have headlined a CZW or ECW show. One of the best hardcore matches I seen in ages. That was more intense than any of the women's deathmatches I seen.

AEW matches in a nutshell.

Can somebody make sure Arn isn't drinking again? Who in their right mind would design a play for somebody with a bad shoulder to build up a huge bit of speed and launch themselves into their opponent on the outside? I was never the biggest Cody Rhodes supporter but when AEW first launched I thought Cody was by far and away the best at making himself come across like a star. Then he got that neck tattoo and it's been all downhill ever since.

My favourite spot of the match was Penta El Zero kicking Cody until Cody fired up. Usually the catch the boot spot or the turn the tide and chop them in a corner works a treat. Instead Cody just gets them bug eyes, kick into the guy and with his bad arm hits a front suplex. :lol:

So Penta is a geek who can't beat a one-armed wrestler while Cody doesn't seem to know what he's doing in the ring but he just hits every move known to man and not that well mind you.

Remember how after the SummerSlam when Brock destroyed Cena and John took a sabbatical in the mid-card? It's like Cody saw that and thought it was the greatest thing ever when really it was Cena on the down-swing just letting loose because he didn't have to appeal to the masses anymore.

Credit to Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa for laying it all on the line. I find it ridiculous that both women had to go to such lengths to justify their place in the main event but to their credit they pushed themselves and set a standard for the entire Dynamite locker room. My hope is that the agents in WWE saw that and thought we need to ride this momentum.

Was it the best women's match in US history? I wouldn't even have it in my Top 5 just thinking about the WWE/NXT alone. That's not taking anything away from either performer, in terms of the big beats it was a well thought out match but it suffered due to the gimmick and just some execution. The modern day hardcore match is basically a magic show these days. It's a series of tricks that happen to escalate and it's less about the bitter rivalry and more about the bumps. It's something the Exploding Barb Wire Death match suffered from as well where I just felt like a massive masochist instead of feeding into the drama of the match.

They did a good job of explaining how Britt Baker was on equal pegging with Thunder Rosa but Britt is about as co-ordinated as a baby elephant. She was slipping over all over the place and it wasn't like she was selling the brawl. It must have been contagious because early on they had that spot where Britt threw Rosa off the stage, except Rosa gently walked down the stairs before stumbling over - that just looked awful.

However I can't knock either performer too much because they took some incredible bumps to get over and they seemingly hit the mark. Thunder Rosa doesn't surprise me at all, she's one of the best talents in the world period. Considering this isn't her full-time profession, Britt deserves to be applauded for her performance and she just continues to get better.

Was it as good as Dave says it is? In the context of where AEW currently is, absolutely. Would I rate it as the best I've seen? No, but that's because the standard is so high these days and the gimmick doesn't really allow for it.

Frankly, a straight one on one match IMO would have been better. Give them the main event slot and the time and those two will do a much better fight without needing the props. Those two are so good the props only take away from the stories they can do.

I disagree quite strongly really that a normal match would have been better. This is the first and only women's feud that AEW has booked that's had any sort of heat on it for a sustained period, it was a physical/personal rivalry and deserved a gimmick match for the blowoff. They had already had a straight singles match at Beach Break so it only made sense to up the ante.

I think it was also a really significant step in AEW presenting themselves a legitimate alternative for women's wrestling. This is obviously a match that WWE would never put on, and while it's not the sort of thing they should be doing even remotely regularly, it's a sign that they can present their women's division in a unique and eye-catching way that matches the rest of the promotion - which is something that for a variety of reasons, they've largely failed with up to now.

Yeah, AEW badly needed eyes on Britt and Rosa and this was definitely one way to do it. I am hoping they get a chance to do a true clinic though too that is built as much as this was. Ideally a submission match. Show people how good they are without the props too, as both girls are two of the best there are right now.

I thought I'd be the first on PW to say a negative word about Rosa vs Baker but Big Pete beat me to the punch.

Nowhere close to being a GOAT women's match. I wouldn't even call it a great match, as Pete said it felt more like a pre-arranged sequence of increasingly brutal spots than an organic grudge match. They spent a lot of time arranging the furniture which took me out of the action. A lot of the spots didn't look like they hurt either. Of course I'm not saying they should have legitimately killed each other, but the art of pro-wrestling is making something look like it hurts while being safe. The execution wasn't good on a lot of the spots.

However some of the spots were good and appropriately violent. The finish was excellent, and Rosa using the thumbtacks to escape the Lockjaw, and the superplex on the chairs. More importantly, it was the right match for the feud, it exceeded the recent hardcore match on the men's side, and it showed a side of women's wrestling that has never been seen to that level before, especially on such a big stage. As a match, I don't think it was that great, but as a moment it will surely go down in history.

I understand why they did it - I just think the stunts over-shadowed the contest and the match lacked substance. It's a trap the genre of match suffers from where the performers will go from stunt to stunt without thinking about the finer details.

I think this match gave Britt that Becky Lynch moment she needed. The visual of Becky standing in the crowd arms spread with the blood from her broken nose was perfect and I think from some of the images coming out of this match that Britt was able to capture that same kind of magic. Don't let the booking fail her and she won't ever be the same again.

Britt has not won a match clean against Rosa so she is fairly safe in that regards. She also clearly does not NEED to wrestle, so she has a lot more control than other girls where she could walk and sit out a contract with no real downside. I think they will do her right.
