Just for fun I decided to look up to see who was not in the Hall of Fame for there respected sport. I was surprised to see that Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Steve "Mr. Clean" Garvey is not in. I'm not a Dodger fan, but I have to admit that he was good.
10× All-Star (1974–1981, 1984, 1985) World Series champion (1981) NL MVP (1974) 2× NLCS MVP (1978, 1984) 4× Gold Glove Award (1974–1977) Roberto Clemente Award (1981)
Another guy I thought was in but wasn't was Ken Anderson. Ken was a great QB during his time.
4× Pro Bowl (1975, 1976, 1981, 1982) First-team All-Pro (1981) 2× Second-team All-Pro (1974, 1975) NFL Most Valuable Player (1981) NFL Offensive Player of the Year (1981) NFL Comeback Player of the Year (1981) Bert Bell Award (1981) NFL Man of the Year (1975) 2× NFL passing yards leader (1974, 1975) 4× NFL passer rating leader (1974, 1975, 1981, 1982) 3× NFL completion percentage leader (1974, 1982, 1983)
Can you guys think of other players not in the HAll of Fame?

Dale Murphy I thought for sure would be in, 398 HR, 1266 RBI, 7x All Star, 1982 and 83 NL MVP, 5 Gold Gloves, 4 Silver Sluggers. He and Mike Schmidt were the best power hitters in the NL for most of the 80's.
Don Mattingly who was one of my favorite players of the 80's and 90's. Perennial Yankees captain and bright light during a dull period for the franchise. I guess he still didn't shave those sideburns.
Lee Smith, every year it seemed he had 30 or more saves and was the all time saves leader for many years until Trevor Hoffman broke the record. He was an intimidating flamethrower at 6'6" 250lbs.
Alexander Molgilny, a perennial 50 goal scorer for the Buffalo Sabres, one of the most exciting players to watch in the 90's.
Jeremy Roenick, another 50 goal scorer for the potent Chicago Blackhawks of the early 90's. He was a huge character in the NHL for many years being a rather vocal critic of the league. Probably why he's not in.
Theoren Fleury, another agitator and 50 goal scorer like Roenick but at only 5'6" had to overcome big odds. I also met him twice at a McDonalds and at the local golf course for a charity event.

I think Dale Murphy will get in in the next few years.

I'm not saying this because i'm a Giants fan, but I think Bonds will get in. Before the Homeruns he was still a HOFer.

Cool topic. I'll start with the NFL and maybe do some other sport tomorrow. Looked up one list of the best players not in the Hall of Fame. These are the names that really stood out as guys I just assumed were already in...
Jim Marshall- Figured this 60s & 70s Minnesota Vikings great had been in for like a quarter century. Held a lot of longevity records. 2x Pro Bowler and 3x Second Team All Pro. Still holds the record for most career fumble recoveries with 30. Helped lead his team to four Super Bowls from the DE position.
Joe Jacoby- Anchored the Redskins famed "Hogs" offensive line at left tackle. Helped the 'Skins win three Super Bowls. 4x Pro Bowler, 3x first team All Pro, and a member of the NFL's all 80s Team of the Decade. Another guy I assumed was in for over a decade until @nobi set me straight a few years back.
Sterling Sharpe- The Gale Sayers/Terrell Davis of Wide Receivers? Obviously doesn't have much longevity, but he was top tier for his entire seven year career. 5x Pro Bowler, 3x first team All Pro, 3x receptions leader, 2x receiving TD leader, and 1x receiving yards leader with the Packers.
Roger Craig- Versatile running back who helped the 49ers win three Super Bowls. Famously became the first player to top 1,000 yards in both rushing and receiving during the same season. 4x Pro Bowler, 1x first team All Pro, 1x second team All Pro, member of the 1980s All Decade Team, and the 1988 Offensive Player of the Year.
Reggie Wayne/Torry Holt/Jared Allen- All three have only been on the ballot for a few years but they all feel like eventual locks for Canton.
Clay Matthews- I'm tired of looking up stats and awards but he anchored the Browns defense for.....a really long time. Figured he was already in. ========================= Steve McMichael- OK, hear me out. I looked up Mongo's football career when I was on my WCW kick last week and came across an interesting case for Mongo from an admittedly biased Chicago Bears fansite. He's 3rd all time in sacks by a DT behind only HoFers John Randle and Warren Sapp. Was a major part of the legendary 80s Bears defense which actually hurts his case if you believe those biased Bear fans. 2x first team All Pro, 3x second team All Pro, and a 2nd Team member of the Pro Football Reference 1980s All Decade Team.

Jim Marshall and Roger Craig are not getting in because of mistakes in big games. Jim ran the fumble back the wrong way and Roger Craig's fumble cost the 49ers a trip to Super Bowl XXV. Joe Jacoby and Clay Mathews should've been in a long time ago. Sterling Sharpe was huge in the late 80's and early 90's. If Gale Sayers & Terrell Davis can get in with a short career so can Sharpe. Aww yes Mongo, I'm all for it.

Randy Gradishar- It's an absolute disgrace he isn't in the Hall of Fame. Anchored The Orange Crush defense, was a 7x pro bowler, a 6x All Pro and Defensive player of the year in 1978. I have no idea whatsoever why he hasn't been voted in yet.

They deserve it though. It's shocking that Mogilny isn't in. I know they just recently retired but the Sedin twins should get in sooner rather than later. John LeClair should be in by now too. Legion of Doom, won a Cup with Montreal, first American to have 3 50 goal seasons in a row, over 800 points in just over 900 games. And of course, the biggest snub of last year and several years past...Pierre Turgeon. He's still the most productive player to not be in the HOF and it's crazy he isn't in yet. 500+ goals, 800+ assists, retired as more than a point a game player (1327 points in 1294 games).

Biggest shockers for me were Barber, Richmond, McGriff, and Tommy John. Assumed all were in their respective Hall of Fames.

Tiki Barber seems have really been banged by the Giants winning the Super Bowl the year after he retired, which is really unfair even if he did act like a bit of a wang. People have Marshawn Lynch pegged as a walk in HOFer but Tiki was way better than he was. Still only the third guy to rush for 10k with 5k receiving - and a better ypc average than most in the 10k club.

On the field three things hurt his case though. One was the issues he had with fumbling earlier in his career. two is the low number of TD's and the third is that Tiki had a slow start to his career. His best seasons are all toward the back end.

I actually had to weed out all the ones that have been inducted since. bleacherreport.com/articles/765341-the-100-best-players-wholl-never-make-the-hall-of-fame

My boy Mitch Richmond is already in.
Kemp and Penny need to get in. They were huge in the 90s. If Jordan wasn't around, they would have rings.
