I really hated that match. Super boring at the start, I actually sent a work email because of how little it was grabbing my attention, and then the rest was just full of that unnecessary babyface overcoming ridiculous odds that they love to do with big title matches like this. I know it's wrestling and you have to suspend your disbelief a bit, but no one should be lasting more than 10 seconds in the Kirifuda Clutch let alone acting like you'd been sunbaking rather than suffocated a second later.

I see what you mean about Rhea powering through the clutch multiple times and overcoming all kinds of disadvantages. It was very Super-Cena esque. I hope this doesn't become a staple of Rhea's reign however long it will be, it was unique and cool at war games but it will get annoying quick if it becomes a common theme.

I'm hopeful Rhea's matches will be a little less dull when she wrestles the likes of Io, Bianca, and Dakota  who are faster paced. Although that is the the same weakness Shayna's reign had.

I didn't even have particularly high expectations because I sensed from the start that Rhea and Shayna wouldn't have particularly good chemistry, and for as much as I enjoy Shayna's character I think her matches have started to get stale and the uniqueness she once brought to the table has disappeared due to a lack of innovation over the past six months or so.

I said in the party thread that it reminded me of the Cole vs Gargano Takeover match from earlier in the year where they just went way overboard with the super babyface stuff completely ignoring what had happened before. Lasting in the Kirifuda Clutch so long was just silly, but it got even worse after that Rhea completely no selling the effects of both that and the whole attack on her arm to execute the Riptide.  

Agree that her matches should be better when she faces the other women in the division - but at this stage I'm not convinced she's actually any good. And I'm already sick of her push. 

Rhea's weird in that she seems to be 90% look based . People really seem to like her because of her pun-rock /tomboy look and muscular imposing physique.

My main problem with her in the ring is that she doesn't really have a style, she's just a generic brawler.

She has some power spots but they pale in comparison to Bianca's (her finisher is especially inconsistent looking)

Her striking is okay but not as good as someone like Dakota's or especially Asuka's.
She has a submission finisher but other than that she isn't very technically sound, and even with her submission she never really does much to set it up.

WWE has a bit of an obsession lately with its top faces in the women's scene all being pretty basic brawlers. It's pretty annoying with all the talent they have available.

The Riptide is hit or miss but that hanging cloverleaf looks very impressive.

Yeah I was talking more about the riptide. The submission is pretty cool especially on smaller women. 

Adam Cleary of whatculture is saying the reason NXT is beating AEW in the ratings is because of Rhea Ripley and how good the NXT women’s division is. The case he makes is pretty hard to deny. Since debuting, Rhea has gone over every girl in NXT and even some big names on the main roster. Where the heck does she go from here?

I mean I'm all for propping the women but that's a very long bow to draw when Cole vs Balor to start the show this past week drew the strongest ratings.

A decent debut for Shotzi. I'm surprised they had her get so much in versus Bianca. Her offense is exciting if kinda sloppy. But I'd much rather have exciting offense with some sloppiness, than boring balnd offense.

Good god, that tag match was really boring. So many chin-locks. Also, it's not the best look to have another WWE show where the babyfaces are almost all white, and almost all have blond hair and blue eyes. While most of the heels are minorities.

On the plus side, an Io vs Bianca feud should be cool especially if they get a takeover match.

If they do get one who wants to bet it completely outclasses the Rhea vs Candice match they seem to be setting up.

Kayden vs Mia was pretty fun. Chelsea would be better served staying on Raw, however.

Chelsea with Robbie E (rando but ok?) was probably the most interesting thing to me this week because at least it was something different. It seems strange to say considering we just had a title change but the whole division just seems so stale and unexciting. Clearly this isn't Triple H's style but they desperately needs to run an actual storyline with a bit of creativity and uniqueness to it.

Part of this is because of there not being a real show on New Years, but I feel like they've completely squandered Dakota's momentum after turning heel. That could have been an interesting storyline, but she hasn't been booked that strongly since turning and hasn't been on TV now for 3 weeks now not counting New Years. Did she even get an in-ring or backstage promo explaining her actions and motivations? Nope.

Not that there is too many fresh matchups you can do with Rhea versus the NXT UK roster.

Good news Kacy is back!

Bad news I have no confidence in Rhea vs Bianca being any good.

Worse news Io is left without anything to do. It's like HHH is trying to drive her out.

I'm really disappointed it is looking like we aren't getting a Bianca vs Io feud. They seem to have a lot of chemistry. Their segment at the end was the one of the most memorable parts of the match.

Also Rhea's promo was horrible a nightmare indeed.

I wonder if Kacy's under a new contract - if so I hope she negotiated actually getting used regularly this time!

I look forward to Mercedes vs Shayna (maybe Baszler's NXT farewell match?), and hopefully Dakota vs Tegan being booked every week on TV to really get that feud going.

That's my major problem with the divsion right now/ She is by quite a large margin the most talented and most over female wrestler on NXT right now, and yet she's almost certainly  not go ing to have a match on takeover , and has no clear feud or storyline i site. How can anyone being excited a about a division that refuses to make the most out of its' best talent?

I can see your point, but Rhea wasn't going to drop the title at her first Takeover so from an Io perspective it's probably a good thing she didn't win here as she's more likely to win the title later in the year. Hopefully they are able to keep her busy in the meantime but given the track record I think it's likely to be the fortnightly jobber match for the next little while.

That would make the main roster women really jealous and destroy morale if the NXT girls get more TV time, better booking and more opportunities. Now if it was a women's weekly show that all of RAW/SD/NXT got to be apart of, then I get that. 

Anyone know why Jess Duke and Marina Shafir weren't in the royale to help Bazsler? Seemed like the battle royale was missing that sort of faction of dominance which those 3 would have brought.

WWE pc youtube channel posted a video / interview about return of Kacy. Kayden and Ricochet are in the video. Interesting comments from Kacy. 

Very real talk from Kacy about motivation and being unsure about her future and why she was gone. Seems like she said as little as possible while still saying something about why she was gone, can only imagine how difficult her thought process on her career has been considering they aren't going to give the whole story on an interview. 

Well, at least Io didn't take a pinfall or submission loss., and she does seem to be hanging around the title picture. The match with Toni was really solid for a tv match. I still wish they had done Io vs Bianca as the secondary feud and Rhea vs Candice for the title .

Also Io is really over with the FS crowd on par or even more-so than Rhea. 

I hope they do a fatal fourway with Rhea, Toni, Bianca and Io.

Maybe they'll do that at TakeOver: Tampa.
