Wrestling just feels like a relic of a bygone era.

Did anyone blame 2000's ROH yet? 'Cause that's where I'd start. My first experience with "smarks" were old users on here & elsewhere who probably would have sucked American Dragon's balls if given the opportunity.

I personally just like good wrestling and even bad wrestling. I enjoy pretty much all genres. The worst crime ever in wrestling is simply being boring, hence why John Laurinitis was the absolute worst. If you're going to be garbage, at least be neon trash. See: Heidenreich, Boogeyman, the entire New Generation undercard, etc. etc.

Good storytelling in and out of the ring is wayyy more important than getting your weekly spot quota for Twitter clout.

Smart fans just being a bi-product of the IWC is a myth that needs to die already. During the heyday of the NWA, fans booed the babyfaces all the time. This wasn't a trend started by the IWC.

NYC/Philly routinely cheered for heels Superstar Billy Graham and Jimmy Snuka over boring babyface Bob Backlund, too.

All those guys likely were influenced by RVD/Lynn, which was just Savage/Steamboat on steroids. Go back far enough I'm sure a vertical suplex was seen as going extreme back in the day where nobody left their feet.

Wanted to play along. Was in the midst of a lengthy, somewhat tongue in cheek post chronicling it decade by decade all the way back to the turn of the last century when tragedy struck during the 30s* in the form of a laptop crash. Oh well.

*And lemme tell ya the 30s were WILD with the once-prestigious World Heavyweight Championship having fallen on hard times when it was held by gimmick wrestlers Danno O'Mahoney (underskilled ethnic babyface who popularized the still-criticized irish whip) and Jim Londos (underskilled pretty boy), along with football players Gus Sonnenberg and Bronko Nagurski. Talk about killing the business!

I could be recalling wrong but I think Thesz was very grumpy that Race broke his record for most N.W.A title reigns and that's where most of the heat comes from.

2002
