I've been bored lately going back and watching all the Rumbles in order , again , and a few things that stood out to me that I didn't want to make my their own thread for.
JBL aka Bradshaw aka Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw - Were the WWE just always high on him? He must have had a real connection to Vince or someone in the back from day one because even as far back as his Hawk days he was featured pretty prominently in the rumble. It seemed really weird to me to see handlebarred Bradshaw doing 40+ minutes in the rumble - especially because those spots don't go to his type often. And even in subsequent Rumbles he always seems to last quite a while and get a few moments. And decade and more later he finally gets his main event shot that apparently had been YEARS in the making.
On the flip side of that is Ron Simmons , who seems to never last more than like 5 minutes and is always a quick exit. They've even had multiple gags with him getting eliminated whether it was buy Ahmed or the MSP who weren't even in the rumbles. I have to assume that it was as much to do with Simmons just being old and not wanting to be in there forever and wasting his body , time and energy. These were also during times where Farooq was a moderately important midcarder or in a team with Bradshaw who was booked far superior. Weird correlation really.
Billy Gunn might be the ultimate tag team wrestler. A ton of rumbles through era's and years and he was always half of a pretty prominent tag team. Say what you will about The Smoking Gunns but there were one of the most popular and successful teams of that time for whatever it's worth. And then of course it's the NAO who were are one of the most popular of all time and one of the best in WWE history and finally it was Billy and Chuck - whom I forget about all the time and was reminded in 2002 when he came out. They weren't my favorites but did have some pretty featured storylines and were successful enough. I don't know if there was a Rumble I've seen yet that took place during one of his failed singles runs - they all seem to coincide with his tag teams.
