What a fucking show. My god. If you're not all in on AEW after that show then you just don't like wrestling and need to find a new hobby.
Amazing. I already can't wait for next week.

What a fucking show. My god. If you're not all in on AEW after that show then you just don't like wrestling and need to find a new hobby. Amazing. I already can't wait for next week. Mox/Archer II should be a scorcher. Britt Baker vs Nyla Rose should be good. Baker will have a good first title defence. Mox/Archer Texas Deathmatch II IN TEXAS will rule. I'm not psyched about Jericho vs Spears but I like that Spears is getting a high profile match. He deserves it. OC vs The Blade will be a sleeper hit, and OC is over as fuck so the crowd will love it. When is the 5v5 Elite/Dark Order match happening? I thought that was going to be next week but it isn't listed as a match.

Apply this statement to anything else and listen to how pompous you sound. 'If you're not all in on Marvel after that film then you just don't like cinema and need to find a new hobby'. 'If you're not all in on the Walking Dead after that episode then you just don't like television and need to find a new hobby'. I don't know what AEW does to breed this militant type of fan, but it gets on my fucking nerves.

Coffin Matches, Texas Death Matches, Exploding Barb Wire Death Matches.. do they just spin a wheel of gimmick matches while booking shows?

I thought it was a stacked show and a reminder of how good AEW was pre-pandemic and how much it's grown since. I thought every match delivered and they had a good balance between storylines and action. I actually thought it was a well formatted show which allowed the matches to breathe. If there was one complaint that could be aimed at AEW it's their propensity to over-book segments with post-match theatrics which takes away from the weight of it. Here they showed more confidence in their matches just allowing the result to take centre stage.
Once again, they gave Darby the main event on a stacked show and he managed to cap the night off strongly. For mine he's well and truly the AEW MVP.

Watching the show now. The first half is pretty bad so far.
Moxley and Anderson had no chemistry at all, weak brawling and meaningless move trading at the climax.
Starks and Cage was more of the same. Dull match, almost looked like slow motion at times. OK, a surprising swerve finish, that's a little interesting.
Decent promo segments featuring Cody/Malachai, Hangman/Kenny and Jericho/MJF. Didn't understand the stip proposed by Kenny. Is he saying that if Team Hangman lose then Hangman has to quit the company? Never challenge for the title again? Or just forfeit the right to challenge Omega this one time? Not a clue.
Cage vs Hardy was lame, with a lamer finish. Christian Cage is literally unbeatable apparently. Or maybe between Cage and Allin, is the real story that Matt Hardy's finisher is now nerfed to the point where it can't beat anyone?

Part two.
Wheeler Yuta is a strange name but I love the way he moves around the ring. Sammy is a great opponent for him. Glorified squash but a very entertaining one.
Gotta say, Penelope Ford has great offense. Her heat segment on Yukazaki was one of the more entertaining ones I've seen recently. Unfortunately in terms of working a match as a whole she's clearly several steps behind the top ladies which is why she's used as cannon fodder. To be honest, I don't think Yukazaki is much better as a worker but she does have an interesting and unique gimmick.
I find the whole premise of wrestlers trying to "permanently get rid" of each other to be kinda dumb. Nobody believes the loser of this coffin match will be gone forever so why present it like that?
Why did Darby remove the steel plate after hitting the first coffin drop? That's a cool idea and there's no reason to ditch it. Also would have absorbed a lot of the punishment he endured during the match.
Scorpio hiding in the coffin is another great spot and love the touch with him having a flower in his mouth. This is the most interesting he's ever been but unfortunately his only role is to be Sting's whipping boy.
Quibbling aside, that was a fun brawl with some creative spots. Didn't like Page smiling and taunting and goofing around while on offense. Thought this was meant to be a serious blood feud? Thought Page hated Darby's skin? Oh right, I'm quibbling again. Well I gotta say the match was disappointing, perhaps too old school for me. Didn't feel like the guys really wanted to kill each other and Darby recovered from taking Page's finisher on the steps remarkably quickly.
Don't understand the hype for the show. The booking is fine, the big matches felt big and significant, and the show had a harmonious feel, but none of the matches delivered. My favourite match was the Sammy Guevara enhancement match which doesn't say much for the rest of the show.
Gotta say though, Allin coffin dropping the coffin was a hilarious way to end the show. Can't decide if it's a good hilarious or a bad one.

Only about half way or a quarter though the show. Got up to Hangman coming out. I ff through moxley/Anderson. Match wasn't doing it for me after 8 minutes.
If I didn't like the people in the next match it probably was nothing special. I was really happy both Starks won and he has a title. I hope the fans continue to support him like they did.
Cody even after that one bad promo I am surprised he got booed.

My first thought while watching the match is that you'd hate it. It felt like a fascimile of a NJPW style match but lacked the crispness and timing that you'd come to expect from the type of match. Watching it reminded me of Cody in NJPW and how often his work paled in comparison.
I thought this was a step up but maybe that's because neither guy has been showcased as much as Moxley. Cage is still this weird anamoly where he can hit enzuguris and Steiner Screwdrivers but his chops look awful (why is he chopping anyways?) and the big transition spot where Cage speared the turnbuckle looked so uncoordinated. I felt like both guys looked a little lost at times but on the big spots their stuff looked good. Starks wrapping around the corner of the ring only to hit a lariat was sweet, the sit-out powerbomb had a nice snap to it which made for a good kick-out spot and the finish was well executed. Usually when they 'swerve' the audience it doesn't make any sense but here Hobbs was clearly trying to save Starks from the DQ and pick a better time which he did.
I took it as him going to the back of the line and letting guys like Darby Allin, Christian Cage, Eddie Kingston etc. receive their shot.
This was better than I expected it to be and I thought it was well laid out before the finish. This match had the most amount of pressure on it having been built for months with neither guy really being over with the AEW audience. However I thought they laid the match out well and there were enough high spots to keep the crowd engaged. I agree the finish sucked and it seemed like something straight out of the Hogan playbook. Work the match like the babyface is going to lose, only to completely flip it at the end.
On balance I thought this worked well and it made sense for this match to have the post-match segment since it featured a lot of non-WWE talent.
Also was it just me, or was the count-out explanation a response to the whole Bubba Ray-TK confrontation?
100% agree and I was going to say this was my MotN but felt it would be taken as a backhanded compliment. This was exactly the type of match AEW should do more of - a nice squash match that features Guevara but in-between spots gives a guy like Yuta some legitimacy. No post-match angle to completely wash away the result.
I thought they worked hard on the death spot on the show and it didn't look out of place which was a credit to them. Kind of a throw-away match but when Britt beats Yuka at least it'll have some momentum behind it.
I didn't get the sense that they were going for an old school match. Moreover that it was more about style than substance with Page getting a chance to shine while Allin gets over. Considering how bad Page's debut was and how much of a non-factor he was pre-Darby I thought it worked as a spectacle. If it had have been a normal match, Darby is done on that finish but since Page had to take a few moments to pick Darby up and try to carry him into the cage it just gave Darby enough time to desperately rake the eyes of Page. The finish did somewhat undermine that razor's edge spot but it was the right call to end the match on a high point.
I mean you kind of just explained why fans were into it. Throw in a molten hot crowd that made every match out to be better than what it was and that's as good a Pro Wrestling show as you're going to get in 2021.

Holy shit, Hangman's so fucking over. Anything less than him beating Kenny clean for the title at All Out is a mistake.
