I actually could see him saying it to Omega/The Elite.
"You aren't the Best in the World because you haven't beaten the Best in the World. You're nothing more than a bunch of jumper-wearing YouTube dweebs."

This talk about Punk following AEW and Khan on Twitter. He’s also recently followed Vince and WWE. I’m unsure what my reaction would be if he’s done a Pillman and played off one promotion for the other. Every waiting for him to turn up at All In and instead he shows up at Summerslam to confront Reigns.

I'll enjoy it. Don't project your bitterness and lack of enjoyment of most of the modern wrestling on me. This is plenty of old-school wrestling to watch & talk about. AEW isn't your thing. That's OK.

That number was from a direct quote when asked what he would return for. He said 20, 25 million. So no way AEW is paying that. 6 million I can see, as that is what Mox makes supposedly now, and most of the top guys are around 3 million. And yeah heel Punk in the indies was freaking awesome. I was not a super fan of the Plunge as it was weird to set up. Much preferred the shining wizard or anaconda vice. The plunge was great for big wins or when he could hit it without setup, but when he needed to set it up, it was awkward. I wouldn't dispute Punk said that, but that answer hits me with a 'tell me you're done without telling me you're done' vibe. I have a photographer friend who does that; he used to do weddings to build a portfolio and win some awards and get his name out there as a photographer in general -- ended up hating shooting weddings, never ever agree to shoot a wedding for money -- and when he didn't have to do them anymore, rather than turn strangers down flat-out he instead quoted some batshit insane number that no one would ever agree to pay. Or if someone *is* willing to fork over $15k for a job that usually reaches $5-7k on the high end, he'll smile and think of the paycheck. 20 million is Punk's price for putting up with WWE's shit. Tell him he won't have to deal with any of that and the cost goes way down. Other assorted thoughts I certainly hope they didn't sign Punk and Bryan to do Punk vs Bryan in AEW. Big Pete said he'd like to see AEW pump as many dream matches out of Bryan as possible and I'd agree, with the slight caveat that the dream matches should be against AEW talent in bouts we haven't already seen. Sign them to tear up the ring and get your new guys over and get your new guys experience.
I'm also one of those who worries AEW will devolve into What's [insert name] doing in the Dynamite Zone but I don't think they're quite there yet, because they have a fairly young roster and IMO most of them don't have the experience yet to have a brand built around them. There's a strong case to be made that bringing in the older WWE guys will bridge the gap while the AEW Originals get more time under their belt and in a few years they'll be ready.
I'm sure I'll get a lot of pushback on this but MJF is a perfect example. He's great at getting heat but at this point in his career he'd flounder as the top villain. His stuff strikes me as generic rich snob -- a formula he's excelling at, but isn't all that distinctive. He'll get there for sure but right now he's Season 1 of a sitcom character where he starts loosely sketched out as "the _____ one" but he'll grow his character into something unique by season 4.

From everything I've read, AEW had already worked out a deal with Bryan Danielson and the CM Punk thing sort of came out of nowhere, and they've had to quickly change their plans for Bryan's debut because of what is going on with CM Punk. Doesn't sound like they'll be working together right out the gate, unless they plan on debuting them together, but I doubt that'll happen. Sounds like the door was always open for Punk and he got the itch/heard about Bryan/got bored at home/etc and picked up the phone.

Tell him he won't have to deal with any of that and the cost goes way down. Punk had that number as what it would take to get him into AEW back when everyone was asking what would the price be. Likely now they offered him something else he wants. And this has me interested, as I wonder if it is just Punk coming. AJ doing a match would also be huge. But I really have a feeling what they are offering Punk is a chance to help backstage with the product so he can basically train and give his thoughts and get paid for it. I agree for Bryan they should nail dream matches as Bryan likely just wants to slam out 5 star matches again to go out on his career on a major high. I just hope the mad lad takes it easy and we do not see a return of crazy Bryan doing diving headbutts and head drops. Punk is harder to use as you really do not know what Punk you will get. Like what do you do with him? Egoist Punk on a fed with Jericho and MJF already feuding with both doing the gimmick? Fan favorite Punk who walked away for a decade and will less than Sting most likely? The best gimmick would be Old Man Punk who comes back after 7 years wondering if still has what it takes? Not sure his ego could take it but could be so insanely over if he played up his MMA loses and "illness" that made him retire from wrestling and do this as his final chance for redemption.

Who knows though, sure Punk after he debuts will let EVERYONE know why he came back.

Tony Khan was on Busted Open Radio today. They were talking about The First Dance and he said something along the lines of "I think we all know what to expect at that show.." then trailed off and changed the subject.
Smooth, Tony. Smooth.

They've done everything except flat out say that it's happening, and they knew that something like this wouldn't be kept secret. It's the best way to handle it imo. God damn it the pop is going to be massive. I can't wait.

It feels as if the buzz has worn off this week.
Punk has stated he's going to be in Chicago the same day as All-In, hosting a Heels viewing.. that's it. That's all he's doing.
He was also critical of AEW some-what, and has stated he's heard the same thing from a lot of different promotors for the last 20 years.. "I've got Monday & I've got TV and we're taking on Vince" and stated AEW need to concentrate on their own product, not WWE.

Frankly, I am not hyped for Punk that much at all. I love Punk but I do not expect him to be there for long, or do all that much really. This is not Buddy Murphy, Black or Bray who can come in and give us the best they got to offer to a level we have not seen. Punk I doubt can top his best work now. He been gone a long time and IMO does not have the hunger these other guys have to prove themselves.

There was a report the other day that he's looking fantastic in training and it was like he's never been out of the ring at all. Obviously no one from his camp or AEW is going to come out and say he's looking terrible - but the idea that he's cooked and has little to offer is ridiculous. Even if he can't "top his best work" that level is two of the most celebrated US matches of the last 20 years, and countless other classics beyond. He's only 42 (younger than AJ Styles for example) and doesn't have the wear and tear on his body from the last 5 years. I think he'll be great - he doesn't seem like someone who would half ass a return in the slightest.

CM Punk could return for the pop and like 3 matches and still be better than 99% of wrestlers today. Deal with it.

Regardless of whether he can go, just being able to give Punk a proper curtain call is worth so much more than a match.

Punk was expressing his initial scepticism surrounding the company and why he didn't sign initially. He seemed very complimentary and even put Darby over huge. Something to the effect of nobody else should dive because nobody will ever do it as well as Darby.

Yeah, that's totally a thing that happens. A premiere for the THIRD episode of a television show, AFTER that show has already aired on TV. I mean, it's not like this is the same company that promoted a FAKE closed-circuit viewing for All In hosted by Dipshit Flip Gordon to fake people out for when he showed up in the battle royal to get a shot at the ROH World Title.
