Is Malakai Black vs Cody worth watching?

They're obviously Chikara guys but they were recently in WWE as a lower mid-card team known as EverRise. They largely competed on 205 Live and NXT and were really well liked backstage. They were like Zack Ryder where they'd take whatever opportunity and really make the most of it. They were also beloved backstage and Kevin Owens would often do whatever he could to promote them. However, the WWE had no interest in calling them up so they were released. No surprise at all to see them in NXT, the guy to keep an eye on is Danny Garcia who feels like another Wheeler Yuta/Danny Limelight type who could moonlight in NXT.

Considering you absolutely HATE Cody Rhodes with every fibre of your being, yes.

I've watched Malakai Black's entrance like six times. Imagine not having this guy on TV. Insane.

2.0 are a solid classic team tag that mostly is used to put others over. Lee is known for comedy stuff like over-reacting, trying to match big guys power styles and being extremely loud in the ring. Parker is more of a serious guy who take advantage of the distractions Lee creates to do damage. While they can be top guys, they work best in the mid card enhancement talents, as they tend to make whoever they wrestle look great, while putting on solid matches with a few humorous spots due to Lee's antics. Their promos are usually quite more hilarious in nature, using 80's tropes. Ultimately, they are a comedy act, and will not be sold by being tough guys, but sold over time as people get used to their gimmick. But with their gimmick, they are a team that you can job 20 times in a row and it will do nothing to them as they do not need to win to go out and do their stuff.

Calling out the top guys and losing to them is very much a 2.0 thing.  Calling them out again, claiming they were lucky the first time, and losing again in five minutes is also a very 2.0 thing.  This is why people in the back love them, they have no ego about putting others over.

For Black's eye, that is the Eye of Horus, or evil eye. He is playing with the idea that dark powers he taps into is corrupting his flesh. Black loves his occult imagery, so this is a simple way to use it that does not need to explained to people.

Was not a fan of Black at all in WWE, but loving him in AEW. Feel like this was what he wanted to do in WWE but they would never commit to it.


2.0 was on the AEW post show. So glad to see them getting so much exposure now.

Yeah, these guys are good fun. I was actually annoyed they were cut from NXT.

Two big steps in the right direction with 2.0 and Black.

And I love the fact Cody was so defeated after his match. He's fucking awful. I don't mean the person, or his level of talent either - the character (maybe the man) is so pompous and up his own ass, you want to see his ass kicked.

He's like the rich kid who goes to a poor public school.

Simply put, if you don't like 2.0, you are a jabroni. Also, Daniel Garcia is an absolutely fantastic wrestler. Guy has pretty much nothing but bangers on the indies.

Although I wonder why they downgraded from 3.0 back down to 2.0

The only thing I would have changed about the main event was I would split the finish and the speech between episodes. Let everyone talk about the match for a week then start dynamite with the fake/short term retirement unless Cody isn't planning on being their next week.

After WWE they were taken down a notch <.<

Or more likely they plan to reuse the level up angle in AEW down the line at some point.  Given all their connections to these guys I assume they are there for the long haul.

I hope this leads to Buddy Murphy's debut. Black's selling the eye, Buddy's talking about unfinished business with Black. If Cody can't stop Black, maybe a juggernaut will. 

I watched Malakai Black vs Cody. I really enjoyed it. Like c I did not partcularly enjoy Black in WWE, but like Moxley, he's been rejuvenated and has become must-watch in the blink of an eye. There are many things I dislike about Cody, but when he puts someone over, he really puts someone over. That was brilliant.

The match ends, Malakai leaves, Cody grabs the mic and cuts this self-indulgent out-of-kayfabe promo about how AEW is real competition. Yes, Malakai came back and put him down after he announced his retirement, shifting the focus back to the new guy, but Dynamite should have ended with Malakai walking out of the arena, having demolished Cody.

I would have liked it more if Cody had just talked about how he was defeated and is going to take a break, instead of spending 3 minutes bigging up himself, AEW, and the EVPs. If he wants to talk about that crap, have him do it in front of the live audience and not on TV.

Yeah a lot of Cody promo felt like shit to say after the cameras go off. But in a way it worked with Black attacking at the end of it. Black would not even let Cody have his feel good moment with the crowd. Sets Black up against this sort of self-centered self-promotion.

2.0 is in the promise-land! BOOYAH!
