TOV is synonymous with Bryan at this point. If it's not broke don't fix it.

Apparently Final Countdown costs $50k per play in royalties and Tony Khan was like yeah fuck that. Bryan never liked the song and only used it as a joke, but it stuck so he had to keep using it. Rumour has it even Europe hates the song and they charge so much because they don't want it played. Wrestlers going to WWE would be smart to trademark their gimmicks going forward. WWE’s movement away from famous Indy guys will help them there, but also I’m surprised someone like Adam Cole they didn’t give a different name that they would control aka Dean Ambrose. trademarks.justia.com/881/03/adam-88103135.htmlThis is interesting. Look who the owner is.

How can I forget to touch on Punk vs Darby? I was not expecting to watch a scientific wrestling contest. It was great.

Bryan's new theme is the best. I love how it's a combination of his three eras - the "you're gonna get your fucking head kicked in" chant from ROH, the Ride of the Valkryies beginning from WWE, and the trap drop representing his new age in AEW.

Look who the owner is. For people who used their names before they came to WWE, WWE is very hesitant to enforce the trademarks after they leave WWE as this was a major sticking point in that people were not independent contractors. Something about the legal arguments they have to make to enforce the trademarks, goes against the legal arguments they make for WWE wrestlers not being employees.

I swallowed my pride and watched Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks. You'll be shocked to find that I really enjoyed it. Sure, it was spotty, but there was a flow to the match, they paced themselves well, selling the exhaustion and the pain, some shocking moments (the thumbtack boot!!) and great false finishes. Actual finish itself was great. Huge celebration. Felt significant, because it was.
Top rope Canadian Destroyer was sick. Matt sold it brilliantly, never seen it sold like that before.
Only one spot I didn't like was when they were stood in a circle superkicking each other. But one eye-roll spot in a Young Bucks/Lucha Bros match is far far below average, and the rest of the match was perfect. Almost as good as Punk/Allin.

Cage/Omega was exactly what I expected it to be. A technically sound match, one of the better on the night without being spectacular.
The match was structured well with Christian getting to fight from underneath and letting Omega dictate the pace. I liked how Christian milked something as simple as him violently crashing off the top rope onto the floor - that looked nasty and made Kenny's flub more forgiveable since you could buy Christian taking every second to recover from that fall.
There were a couple of spots here I liked. One being where Kenny feigned a V-Trigger only to hit a Dragon Suplex and then go for the V-Trigger. That's the type of wrinkle I like that Omega comes up with from time to time. I also thought the set up for the spear off the apron was sweet and the table really was spectacular. If I have one issue with Kenny it's his propensity to work on the outside but that's just my own personal preference - I just feel unless you're doing crazy dives into the third row like RVD it's padding. As JR pointed out you can't win the title out there.
I think my issue on initial viewing is that Christian just lacks that ability to construct a believable near-fall. He let Kenny kick out of the Kickswitch but there just wasn't that other move to really put any doubt into the viewer. Also is there any move that signals going through the motions more than the 10 punch in the corner? Save that for the prelim. I just think he needed a good snappy roll-up or something.

Problem I had with Christian and Omega, is Christian only beat Omega with the Kill Switch on a chair in their first match, so it was made clear he did not have a chance of beating Omega clean.

Problem I had with Christian and Omega, is Christian only beat Omega with the Kill Switch on a chair in their first match, so it was made clear he did not have a chance of beating Omega clean. I didn't get that feeling at all. Christian capitalized on The Elite being dickheads so if anything, Omega was at a slight disadvantage because their interference could easily backfire again and cost him his most prized possession. It was pretty obvious Omega would kick out of the Killswitch at some point but had Christian managed to hit a second one it would have been over. He just got beat. My biggest gripe was the finish. I love the OWA and the Avalanche OWA looks deadly, but it's damn near impossible to set up naturally and this was a prime example. Christian basically climbed onto Omega's shoulders for him and then sat there with his eyes open not even selling anything. It looked silly.

Been reported that buyrate is about 200,000 that's good That is huge. That’s bigger than any rating, that is absolutely huge. That’s more than Punk and Cena drew at MiTB.

This made me chuckle more than it should have. I fucking love Maffew. Dude never misses. I also love that like the last 5 mins or so of every Botchamania are hilarious memes and edits that fans send him. Anyway, 200k buys is massive. People were talking about it and even the "insiders" were saying it would still be really hard to pull off even with all the hype. But they did it, BAYBAY

I don't fully disagree, but surely part of the issue must be that no one actually believed Christian would win, did they?
It'd be like if WWE announced Reigns will defend his title against Nakamura on a rando Smackdown. (I know it was a PPV but as I understand it Cage is also a stand-in for Adam Page, who was originally supposed to challenge Omega, so almost guaranteed that the 47 year old emergency fill-in won't be booked to win the World Heavyweight Championship.) Hard to get that invested when you're 95% sure what the outcome will be.

Some notes that came out yesterday:
-buys are between 205k and 240k. -revenue for AEW is in the $4-5 mil range. -biggest non-WWE event since Spring Stampede 1999 and possibly beat Uncensored 1999 that was main evented by Hogan vs Flair. -Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks got 5.75 stars.

I never understand where the .25 deduction comes, you might as well give it a 6 star rating out of 5 if you once again go beyond the scale of your rating .

I'm still trying to figure out why Miro had to resort to a low blow to beat Eddie Kingston? Because Eddie wasn't gonna stay down for a pin and Miro was having trouble incapacitating him to put him in the Game Over and Miro was like "fuck this I wanna go bang my wife in a hotel room," so he punched him in the balls.
