The "this was one of the worst episodes of Dynamite ever" reaction because a guy's entrance got cut short is the universe rebalancing we needed after the "All Out was the best show since WM17" excitement. My overall thoughts are that I would take a show that has to rush things occasionally because they cram so much in that the two hours fly by, every time over one that has heaps of downtime. Good stuff tonight was another electric crowd, the tremendous MJF segment, BPJ getting a great rub, CM Punk loving life and shilling for AEW is the best, and of course BRYAN DANIELSON. Negatives were the opener which we already discussed, the Dan Lambert stuff which is completely terrible, three matches seemingly being derailed by injuries (Hobbs got knocked loopy on Dante's dive outside the ring, Ruby seemed to be struggling after getting thrown into the turnbuckle by Jamie, and Suzuki's eye which apparently ended the main event short) and the commentary which showed how important Excalibur is - JR and Tony are completely lost without him and can't call moves to save themselves. I mostly agree with you but you do NOT cut off Kaze Ni Nare. That's like cutting off Kane before the pyros or Triple H before he spits water. You just don't do that. If I were in that crowd tonight I would be inconsolable. Emperor back me up here

Even Minoru commented on them cutting off his entrance. He knew it was coming because they were told they went over time but he was still upset.
Someone on wreddit attended Rampage and said PAC vs Andrade was given over 20 minutes and is now his favourite match of all-time. Previous fave was Benoit vs Regal in 2000. So take that for what you will. I can't wait, personally.

Black vs Rhodes was pretty good. Not as exciting as Black's previous matches, but this was a solid match. Rhodes selling his leg wonderfully. Finish looked a bit crap because the kick clearly hit his upper arm and looked harmless, but whatever. It's the thought that counts, right? Punk vs Team Taz does not fill me with excitement, but I'm still intrigued. Dan Lambert called Adam Cole short. 🤯's new favourite wrestling personality. MJF acknowledging that he gets cheap heat doesn't cancel out the fact that that promo was almost entirely cheap heat. But OK, he's good at it, and there was a reason for it. Speaking of being good at promos, Brian Pillman Jr. is not good at promos. Must have been difficult for MJF to pretend to take him seriously. But he's a hometown hero so it doesn't really matter how he says what he says. He has that crutch. Decent segment, and we're back to teasing tension between MJF and Wardlow, which went absolutely nowhere last time he did that. Ruby Soho still isn't very good, and her finish is awful. At least she's over. Tully Blanchard randomly wants to end Darby Allin. Who does he send? Constant loser Shawn Spears. Well, I suppose I'll give him credit for having unending faith in his wrestlers. Adam Cole bigging up The Elite, but ignoring Gallows and Anderson, is hilarious. Nothing good to say about them, eh? Not surprised. Kenny Omega's right. It doesn't work like that, Brian Danielson. AEW has a ranking system and you have to win matches to earn a title shot. Oh, you're just going to say Kenny is scared? Attack his fragile ego? What works in WWE works in AEW I guess. Danielson is great but this isn't really blowing my mind. Leading to yet another Elite vs Christian and friends brawl. Yawn. Moxley vs Suzuki I must reserve for another time.

I wish Judas would go away forever, for example. I'd rather watch three minutes more of Suzuki vs Moxley then sit through Suzuki's song for three minutes until the chorus hits.

MJF is going to have a field day with this Also it seems like TK heard all the complaints about the main event loud and clear:

Watched Suzuki vs Moxley and it was a huge disappointment. Match was a lot shorter than expected, nothing really exciting happened apart from accidental bleeding. Mox's finisher is looking more and more like a plain double arm suplex every time he does it.
At least there'll be a rematch, or something. Justice for Minoru.

Mistimings like that are where I have to remind myself AEW is still young, still growing, and still figuring things out. As long as they're learning from their mistakes that's all you can really ask.
So this could be a separate thread or maybe there's a MJF dedicated one I haven't seen but after taking some time to think about it, the biggest reason MJF's heat-seeking promos aren't landing with me is because he doesn't exactly have a character (like I've mentioned before, but I should flesh that reasoning out a bit).
Every bad guy has a reason for doing what they're doing. Magneto seeks the eradication of the human race, sure, but that's because he's a Jew who watched his people genocided during the Holocaust, sees humans' violence and rhetoric against mutants and says Never Again by any means necessary. Lex Luthor tells himself Superman needs to go away so humanity can innovate its way to the next level (instead of mindlessly waiting on Supes to fix our problems for us) but ultimately he's jealous Superman can swoop into town and get the same fan adulation he's spent a lifetime trying to build up. Tywin Lannister is singlemindedly focused on his family's reputation to the expense of all else -- even the members of said family.
MJF is a dick. But *why* is MJF a dick? Why is he venomously flipping off kids who wait in line and pay for his autograph, instead of a cocky "You're a fan of mine? Of course you are, why wouldn't you be?" This is not to say he shouldn't, but I can't get a handle on the motivation. And without it, he's just a guy who's saying things to get a rise out of people; he doesn't believe a single thing coming out of his mouth.

It's the Burberry scarf he is wearing, anyone who wears one of them is a dick.

I don't have anything to add to Michinokudriver's analysis of MJF, I just want to say it's brilliant and he's hit the nail on the head. MJF is a jerk because he's a jerk. That's it. He's a very good jerk, but there's no depth behind it.

More Tully, less Dan Lambert, please. He's the most useless character in the promotion. Page & Sky look like dorks for mocking the new additions to the roster while doing nothing but sitting in the crowd. It would more sense if they had chips on the shoulders & wrestled for Impact Wrestling. As opposed to bitching about a roster they are being paid to be a part of.

I've been thinking the same thing. Stick them in Impact where the "real" wrestlers are or at the very least don't let them dress in Hawaiian shirts and khakis so they look nothing like the heel feel they're going for. They should only ever wear American Top Team tracksuits or like sweatpants or something. And give them a match already. Let them work as a stiff old school tag team and beat up a few locals to gain more heat. I swear the crowd tunes out Dan Lambert when he talks now. They aren't doing Page and Sky any favours.

This brings back to the issue I have with Lambert in the promotion. He's not in AEW because he wants to prove MMA is the superior discipline. He just wants to annoy the cool wrestlers. Lambert has no goals or self-motivation. Acting like a cranky old man is not a reason enough for him to be on TV. let alone care about this man getting beat up.

Late to the party but on MJF isn't his character that he's a spoiled rich kid who just uses his privilige to get ahead in life? Hence he was able to afford his own security in Wardlow who is being paid by MJF and not AEW?
He's a jerk because he's convinced that's what sells fights and it's how he got discovered in the first place. I don't think Pro Wrestlers really require more pathos.
I do get that there is an issue but I think it comes down to the angles more than anything. I think his introduction was fine and he was just shmoozing off of Cody to get a push only to turn on him. However the pandemic hit and it threw everything off kilter.
I think they need to give him a clear goal whether it's to take down the ex-WWE talent, make Pinnacle the dominant faction or become AEW Champion just some direction because right now it just seems like he exists on the roster.
It's a feature of AEW really and how they try to be everything. At times their Wrestlemania with all the celeb appearances. Other times their ECW with the hardcore violence. Then they're PWG with the goofy wrestling etc. etc. It can be difficult to get a handle on a character especially when elements of the show clash with others.
