JR: "Pillman, how do you feel about MJF?"
Pillman: "Pretty pissed considering he's called my mother a drug-addicted whore, made light of my past, and said my father's in hell, and there isn't a single chance in hell I'm gonna win this match because no one gets heat on this motherfucker and he's the most protected wrestler of the last decade."
Also, the whole Lambert/Jericho segment had me wishing for death. A homophobic babyface joke in 2021 by the "progressive" company.
Still, aside from that, most of the show was pretty great. So, like, a 7/10?

So Omega vs Danielson is non-title right? I understood that correctly? Bryan has no claim to a title shot. Besides, non-title here is a much more interesting as a title match it would make sense for someone to trigger a DQ to save the title. Sure Bryan could skip the line due to his stature, but like Christian, his character really does not lean in that direction. Frankly, I am not sure either what would be the better win for Page. Beating Omega would be big, but bigger would be beating Omega then taking the title from Danielson, who while Page was gone proved he still is the best in the world. Build up Danielson like a fucking God and have Page hand him his first loss in AEW for the title. Danielson can easily move to heel for a feud with Page claiming Page is a nobody that never did a single notable thing in his career and treat him as another Dark Order jobber. Beauty of having someone like Danielson, is he will job happily to create a moment like this.

Quite a build heavy show tonight. A few thoughts:
- Cole and Kazarian did nothing for me really. Both can work so it was fine but as I think HR mentioned it's tough to buy Kazarian as a threat to a main event talent. This screamed of giving Cole something to do when no one had any better ideas.
- MJF uses his cheap tactics as always but there's no denying his heat is monstrous. It was great delivery and here comes Pillman to take issue with it. Pillman needs to develop a lot but he does have some charisma, even if he isn't using it in the best way currently. His best promo yet comes in a good sit-down with JR where he can be a little more authentic. This was good for Pillman who will get a rub from MJF win or lose.
- The Suzuki incident thing is bizarre to me and presumably will be for anyone else not familiar with Japanese wrestling.
- The Black segment was executed poorly. Dawson should have at least been pointed out to fans. Maybe she was and I missed it, but did anyone know who she was? Here comes Cody and it's a generic brawl although it had plenty of intensity. I am as interested in the crowd reaction next week as anyone else. Seems to me like AEW has a super-heel waiting in the wings the day that Cody realises it.
- Here's the thing with Dan Lambert. He's good, he's very good. But it won't work. The problem is in 2021 kayfabe is dead and buried, so everyone knows Tony Khan is willingly sending Lambert out there to shit on his own product, and the fans see through it. So I don't see it getting good heat, I see it getting 'please can this guy just fuck off' heat and it's a shame because he's really good. Maybe he could be more subtle about it, but because he's just reciting every AEW slant known to man, it's so painfully transparent. I know MJF is transparent, but he's fun with it. He's a panto act. Lambert is too good for his own good, if that makes any sense. So, top marks for the talent but this won't work IMO. I agree with everyone's take on Jericho's joke. That was a shame, but unsurprising from a guy who's a bigger boomer than Lambert.
- Good promo from Billy Gunn and his kids. Made me buy them as a threat.
- Hobbs takes out Punk at the announce table. This will be an interesting match for sure, I'm surprised they booked it since Punk surely wins and Hobbs is the kind of guy that needs more wins than losses. Let's see how it plays out. Side note - I was unimpressed by Punk on commentary. He stumbled a few times and even made a few snide remarks that totally went against his character so far. He was also painfully quiet - was he conscious of the flak Jericho caught for screaming on Rampage? Either way, it was weird, and I don't need to see it again.
- The FTR/Sting/Darby situation was great! Really got me into the match next week. Great stuff with the spike piledriver from probably the two safest workers in the business, the stuff with Tully and the face paint. This was the best angle on the show and made me care about a match I wouldn't have been that interested in. The match was every other Shawn Spears match since the birth of Christ - 6/10
- I'm so ready for the belt to come off Omega. He goes toe-to-toe with Danielson, looking like absolute shit in his unironed white shirt with his stupid died beard, talking like a goof because that's what he talks like. Danielson saves it with a good promo and the match is set for next week and I'm very interested because it strikes me Tony Khan is going to have to do one thing he doesn't want to do - either beat his champion (again), beat a mainstream star in his first match, or come up with a fuck finish. Understandably, people are excited about the athleticism this match could offer and with good reason, it's going to be a monster of a match. But a very interesting decision lies in the finish. We'll see.
- Not the most enticing main event and especially because we all know where it's going. Moxley gets the win and Suzuki comes out, and gets almost no reaction. Comes down to the ring and he sort of gets a reaction, and they brawl to fade. It's risky business running these 15k seater arenas and running angles about Japanese legends. Seemed to me a lot of people didn't know or care who Suzuki was, he actually motioned to the crowd at one point to give him some juice. Not the best final segment I've ever seen.
This was more of an interesting show than a really good show, although as always with AEW, no show is ever really terrible. Next week looks amazing and I can't wait.

Time for another session of Emperor's Dynamite bullet points.
- Adam Cole's debut match. I tried to turn off my anti-Cole bias while watching the match. It was a fine match. Not great but not bad either. Acceptable as an opener. And considering I don't normally enjoy Kaz at all, I guess it was a good job from Adam Cole. I've only just noticed that his finisher is basically the same as Danielson's but three feet lower.
- MJF is not here to talk to the crowd, but he spends two minutes insulting their city/state anyway. Wonderful. What a terrible person he is. OK, now he's insulting Brian Pillman while hyping his match. That's more interesting. This is going somewhere.
- I suppose I can't fault AEW pushing homegrown talent, and to be fair, I wouldn't be interested in this match at all if it weren't for MJF. Smart booking to put Pillman Jr. against a top heel. Oh and that sit down promo with JR was pretty good, a lot better than what he did on the mic last week.
- Christian Cage taking over the promo from Jungle Boy was pretty rude. I don't care if he apologised. I wanted to listen to Jungle Boy, thanks.
- I'm glad Suzuki is sticking around, and I'm especially glad that Archer is with him. They should win the AEW tag belts so Suzuki-gun can have tag champions everywhere (they hold the Junior and Heavyweight tag titles in NJPW).
- Lame Malakai Black segment. What the hell has Rosario Dawson got to do with anything? Did I miss a memo? Generic crowd brawl. Welcome back Cody. NEXT.
- More poorly acted high school drama from The Dark Order.
- Lambert is pretty good at ripping on things, such as ridiculous indy wrestling spots. He's starting to entertain me as this meta-heel.
- Sometimes Dan Lambert has some UFC people with him, sometimes he doesn't. I don't get it. Are these UFC guys going to fight in AEW? If not, what's the point? Oh, Jake Hager (featuring Chris Jericho). That's the point. Sorry Jericho, you can't convince me you stand a chance against an MMA fighter.
- Is it a thing for Americans to hate New Jersey?
- You know what? I really liked that Gunn Club promo. For the first time, I'm interested in them. Who says Billy Gunn can't talk?
- Cargill vs Hirsch didn't really work for me. They didn't mesh well.
Part 2 later.

Oh and did anyone hear, the story Meltzer broke about Vince's idea for Cole to be a manager is total horseshit. Cole had never heard of it, and SRS said he spoke with several talents who hadn't either. We can add this to the laundry list of reasons why Dave Meltzer should be shot out of a cannon and consigned to wrestling history, along with other star performers 'WWE Intermission', and that time Dave believed a video of a football crowd celebrating in a bar with a photoshopped video of Okada disrobing, and captioned it 'closed circuit screening'.
If you pay 12.99 or whatever the fuck it is these days. Stop and give it to charity.

- Shawn Spears trying too hard to get heat off Sting, but besides that a solid enough match against Allin. Nice post-match angle to give FTR some much needed relevancy.
- The Danielson/Callis/Omega segment didn't do much for me, except I like where they are going with Omega's character. Normally he laughs off the trash talk but Danielson's pointed barbs got to him. Deep down inside, Omega knows he's the Best Bout Machine, but perhaps he's not proving it with the way he's behaving and the guys he's hanging around. This is his chance. A golden opportunity.
- Suzuki got a good enough reaction I thought. As far as NJPW guys he's one of the more recognised and well-known faces in the West. Certainly in the UK - he's always prominently on the card when he works an NJPW or RevPro show here. Ideally they should book him as a genuine threat to Moxley, but the way last week's match went down was not so encouraging. Hopefully they can redeem that.

Transparent is the key word. It's impossible to have any kind of emotional reaction to the guy because - as good as he is on the mic - he's clearly just rattling off all the anti-millenial/anti-indy wrestling talking points without any subtlety or purpose.

New Jersey gets put in comparison to New York and NJ has a record of being a dirty state. It's a bit hyperbole honestly BUT they left a bad taste in tons of people's mouths with Chris Christie, the former mayor of NJ being absolute trash. He was NJ's answer to Rudy Guiliani

Well already don't like Adam Cole as much in AEW. Both his inring and promos have took a small decline so far. Based on nXt my prediction about O’Rielly future may come true sooner then later. Hopefully AEW gets ReDragon and teams them back up with Cole to go against elite. Sometimes friends can out grow each other and as tv persona go Adam Cole has outgrown be a follower in a group.
How are BBB number one contenders? They were losing before Butcher was injured, while he was injured, and will continue to be losing now that he is back. Why would Miro want that car? I guess that the best thing he has to offer. MJF is trying his hardest to make the fans care about Brian. At least he didn’t come out with a mic after his music play as MJF ran down his family like last week. That was bad.
Christian promo was fine if both a heel and someone who wasn’t ex-WWE said it. Christian definitely doesn’t come across as bitter people were happy to see Cole and barely cared when he came.
Nothing was really wrong with RTF’s match as I believe JR called them at one time.
Yeah cut someone’s intro is sign of disrespect especially if they are a guest in your company.
Jim Cornette lite was alright except if he believed all the stuff he said he would have a problem with page like Cornette does. I guess you can take a wrestler out of WWE but you can take the WWE out of a wrestler since that sounded like something that came from there. I think of the EVPs Cody was the more progressive one so since he isn’t around the LGBT wrestlers have been seen less on the main shows.
Gunn Club promo was good though based on their reasoning turning on Big Show didn’t make any sense. It should have been a face that also has some control in the company. It should have been Cody. Actually, had they did this in place of QT it could have worked better.
Women’s match was a styles clash.
Not sure if they should have booked Bryan vs. Omega so soon either outcome is bad. Bryan wins your world champion just lost to a top star from a rival company. Or you have someone on Bryan’s level lose in their first match which would look like the elite are just burying people because they are the bosses. Like Young Bucks did to FTR.
Miro said exactly what I hope he would say. Once again I want to say Miro turn around was amazing.
So I don’t watch Japanese wrestling but the youtube shows I watch usually build Minoru up heavily as one of the baddest, scariest guys around and yet they care didn’t seem to care much. With the arrival of Punk and company is the crowd in AEW changing.

(Would like to see an MMA fight between these two or a MMA style match in AEW) A lot of the UFC guys with Lambert are older like Junior Dos Santos or Pitbull Arlovski and probably have a no contact clause from Dana White. What kills it for me is the over acting throughout by everybody that is with Lambert. Given Tony Khan has put over Jim Cornette, I would like to see Corny come on down to a chorus of boos and show Lambert how it is done.

Gonna start to wonder if Tony Khan can bring Ric Flair to join up with Andrade or not after the latest episode of Dark Side of the Ring. Given how much influence that show has had with Nick Gage and the Brian Pillman Jr push, not sure he can sell it to the audience in 2021 having Flair on board.

One was when they were at ringside and it was something about a side of the story or something like that? I’m struggling to remember it. Along with the New Jersey thing which the other commentators didn’t know what to do with, he also weirdly put over MJF’s promo which was about Brian Pillman being in hell and again the other announcers didn’t know what to say to that. It may have been a case of high expectations on my part because Punk has been good in this role before, and he may have been nervous, but it didn’t blow me away. I haven’t read a lot of criticism for it though so I may be on an island with it.
