Cody actually thought he'd be the #1 wrestler on PWI's top 500 for 2020, and was so confident he planned a storyline around it.

Here is a small thing most people may have missed. The first Brodie Lee memorial show they gave -1 a match with his three favorite wrestlers in AEW: OC, 10, and Cody. On the second memorial show OC and the dark order were in a match together. Did he out grow or sour on Cody as well?

It's also interesting that the VPs are VPs in name alone now. However The Bucks are preoccupied with the merch division and BTE and Omega overseeing the gaming division. While it's said Cody is an 'office regular'

I enjoyed Cody for a while but he's never let fans miss him. I believe that's where the resentment began. He had goodwill and ruined ir.

If it wasn't already obvious, everyone hates Cody.

Oh he is totally molding this. Aubrey even said he told her to expect the fans to throw the belt back and not to worry if they do.

Not sure what is ultimate goal is, but I think he wants to be a face so fucking full of himself, that people cheer when the heels win.

I'd like to think he's gone all meta. And hope he thinks he is playing 'John Cena' who played a face who was really a heel.

And I'd like to think it's a clever way to put over " cool heels "

But I think I've given him too much credit.

I mean, he put the belt back on Weds, and warned Aubrey before the match he expected the fans to throw it back. He know the fans dislike him. And he has creative freedom to do pretty much whatever he wants.

The issue is that Cody doesn't have the type of heat that can draw. He has go-away heat because of how he subjected them to two pretty awful feuds in a row (Shaq and QT). I'd even say the Malakai Black feud has been something of a disappointment as well which so far is best remembered for Arn's ridiculous line about pulling a glock and Rosario Dawson getting the better of arguably AEW's most imposing figure.

Watching Cody closely, he just hasn't evolved as a character. The response to Malakai kicking his ass should have been a brand new entrance, brand new theme and a more focused style in-ring. Instead he still does these spots which are clearly beyond him and that kind of buries Arn who sells it like Cody isn't listening to him and fans are clearly bored with it.

I'm glad this got bumped because I've been thinking and honestly I think Cody would be better off forming a tag team with an up and comer for a few months and then getting back into singles when something opens up. At least that way the fans can see he's using his spot to help get another talent over because I think fans appreciate the fact that Cody played a big hand in getting Eddie Kingston and Ricky Starks signed by the company.

However I can't see it happening that way. I think he'll eventually turn heel, fans will like it at first and say 'finally' before getting bored of it because the only way he can get heat is by wasting valuable television time.

Better yet, he forms a tag team with a popular babyface and screws him over to get some real heat.

To me the issue is the implication that all you have to do is turn Cody heel and automatically he's an acceptable part of the show. I think the problem with Cody is that he doesn't connect as a character and simply hitting the switch and saying 'it's okay to boo me now' doesn't fix the issues with him and how he puts his segments together.

I also don't think you can have a genuine heel character anymore or atleast somebody who is completely irredeemable. With MJF, he's undeniably talented. With Lambert I think he has a short shelf life and he was a mid-card guy with a ton of cronies around him.

Fans eased up on the segments considerably when Paige Van Zant showed up...for some reason that escapes me...

But with Cody, I don't think the answer is more but make him even more vapid and obnoxious. I think he needs to take a step back to move forward. They also have to stop booking him like a jilted door greeter at Wallmart.

To me the situation is not comparable to Cena. Cody can be a huge asset as a heel, but isn’t as a face. He doesn’t draw fans, he doesn’t sell merchandise that I’ve ever heard of, so there is no argument to keep him face for the betterment of the company. Cena did all sorts that would have been lost if he turned heel so it made sense. Cody could be a huge meta heel and they’re missing a trick not pulling the trigger on this.

I’ve been screaming about his meta heel work for over a year now. He’s been a heel this whole time and the fans have finally clued in.

What Big Pete says about him though is true. He isn’t the type of heel that draws. He needs to change that, I just don’t know how you’d do it. Maybe dumping Arn and reuniting with The Factory? Stick QT in the manager/occasional wrestler role, get the rest of the group over as heels by dominating Dark, reconcile with Ogogo, then go back on his word and try to snatch away the World title from Hangman.

Embrace the Triple H role and be The Corporation, AEW style. Just be a massive dick and use your influence to fuck people over. Fans would want him dead.

My proposal was he'd essentially use his power to bully new babyfaces, " I can make you, I can break you " type, that corporate prick he already is. And then let Brandi be the insufferable human being she is.

Like I said earlier I'm burnt out on Cody and I don't think turning heel will help. The best thing he can do at this point is leave tv for 6 months and work behind the scenes. Have him return and save Hangman making him the ultimate face. Only to turn on him seconds later. So we can all ask that important questions. Why Cody? Why?

Seriously I think the best thing that can happen for Cody is extended time off. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
