Just a friendly reminder only televised pay per views, Network specials, and closed circuit offerings are eligible for the countdown.

List sent, I favored my personal viewing experiences over what are technically the shows with the most 5 star matches or whatever.
WWF- 8 NWA/WCW- 7 ECW- 5

I started doing this then remembered that honestly I have maybe seen 20 wrestling ppv’s from beginning to end. Before 2019 i think I’d seen two live (Halloween Havoc and Starcade 97) and any others were a blend of the late 80’s tapes available at my video store or the occasional dvd is purchased. The Network/Peacock theoretically made this better, but I have a hard time drumming up interest for PPV’s that happened years ago where I know what happens.
At the point Survivor Series 1990 was in my top ten, I decided maybe I should stop.

Plus, Tito Santana's biggest moment deserves more love!

One week to get those lists in. The last two ballots I received included ineligible shows so I'm restating this, only bolded and big in the hope that it finally sinks in... Only televised pay per views, Network specials, and closed circuit offerings are eligible to be voted on
If the interest is there maybe I'll do a non-PPV Supershow Countdown in the near future, but I'm not changing the rules this late in the game. So far I've received four completed ballots and those additional two in need of correction. The two posters responsible for the latter ballots have been notified. Finally added up the points from the first four ballots. A clear front runner has emerged. Beyond that it's anybody's game. Only twelve shows have reached the coveted 20 point total so far. At the point Survivor Series 1990 was in my top ten, I decided maybe I should stop. Noooo! Keep going and submit. Seconded! Nothing wrong with Survivor Series 1990. I watched parts of that show and the one which followed it a whole bunch of times after getting the tapes from my neighbor soon after they aired. Did they make my list or end up being late cuts? Tune in next week to find out!

What non-PPVs do people keep submitting?! A collection of ECW, Indie, and Japanese shows. A few white box ECW tapes and an ROH show or two would have made my list if we had included non-PPV supershows. Received a corrected ballot last night which enabled me to update the count. Two shows are now within striking distance of the leader while sixteen have reached the coveted 20 point plateau.

Received another ballot today and added up the valid offerings from the remaining anomalous ballot just to see where we are. Through 7 ballots...
-79 shows have received at least one vote -Only 18 have reached the coveted 20 point plateau -The leader is back to having a landslide advantage -Shows from WWF/E, NWA, WCW, ECW, ROH, TNA, New Japan, NXT, and AEW ranging from 1985-2021 have received votes

Baker does Clash of the Champions count as a network special? Unfortunately not. Or I should say the old NWA/WCW ones don't count. I think WWE (or NXT?) ran a modern Clash on PPV? If so, that would count. =============== Since people are really into supershows I'll do another countdown (or two?) in the near future for Clashes, Crockett Cups, SNME, white box ECW tapes, indie and puro shows, etc. We can work out the details later.

So this was actually a tough countdown to put together. We must have done this at some point on the old website right? I feel like I haven't taken stock of this for at least 10 years so anything post-SummerSlam 2013 feels like I'm drawing a massive blank on. The only shows I tried to include were some of the TakeOvers which always put me in the mood for more wrestling and WrestleKingdom since that's become a part of my New Years ritual and it's one of the few PPVs where I'll give it my full undivided attention and actually enjoy myself.
The rest are shows I've had decades to marinate on and usually there was some anticipation behind it. I tried to limit the amount of Big 5 shows because the list could have easily been just Wrestlemania and SummerSlam going head to head with the odd Rumble popping up. I was surprised by the amount of WCW shows as well, I think that period in late 1997-early 1998 is how I like a lot of my PPVs structured and they put together some great cards.
I used Cagematch as a reference and was really surprised at how low Bash at the Beach 1997 was. For mine that's one of the best shows WCW ever put on and it never seems to get any credit.

We must have done this at some point on the old website right? I'm sure it was done on the old website but it would have been before my time (2013) since I don't remember participating in a PW PPV Countdown. Pete bringing up Cagematch PPV ratings had me curious to see how the 20 shows I voted for are rated over there... 9s- 3 8s- 5 7s- 8 6s- 3 5s- 1 Cagematch has proven to be an invaluable resource, but I'm just going to view their PPV scores the same way I look at their wrestler ratings- funny. And not "haha" funny, but as a tragicomic source of bemused amusement.Â

The top 6 or so on my list are the only ones I’ve gone back and rewatched for fun since getting the network/Peacock. All but three are WWF/WWE, I’ve never seen an ECW ppv. But I turned one in, mostly to amuse 🤯

UT and mikec submitted ballots yesterday which boosted a whole bunch of shows over the coveted 20 point mark. Working on the updated scores now. Will start posting the results tomorrow- morning if I receive no other ballots and evening if I do. Probably going to post two a day in the early going because I want to finish this up by Halloween.

Seven from my list failed to crack 20 points. Here are the biggies...
Survivor Series 1995 and IYH December 1995. I always lump these two together because they only took place a month apart and they're both pivotal moments in my fandom. So pivotal, in fact, that I contemplated putting them at 4 & 5 on my list....and probably should have? Oh well. Was in the building for Survivor Series and watched the best bits of both on tape approximately one million times.
8. Survivor Series 95 is a genuinely good show from top to bottom highlighted by the classic Bret/Diesel main event with the first big WWF table spot in 7 years, Bret ending our year long nightmare by winning the title on a clever finish, and a big post-match angle with an irate Diesel snapping on the new champ.
Opener saw a bunch of undercard workrate guys do their thing in front of an appreciative Landover crowd. Marty hit a mind blowing top rope powerbomb on Skip, we all chanted for Barry, and that dastardly 1-2-3 Kid would be the sole survivor to capitalize on his recent heel turn.
Then the All Japan Women came in for something completely different. Aja Kong ran roughshod over Alundra Blayze's team to become the sole survivor, getting over with me (albeit seemingly nobody else) in the process.
Goldust/Bigelow kind of sucked, but it's also the match that made me want to become a pro wrestler. Goldust had nuclear heat in Landover. The crowd wanted him dead. So of course I wanted to become a wrestling bad guy just like my latest hero, Goldust. It also gave me a cool new Goldust promo to memorize as I was wont to do in those days- "Beware the beast man, for he is the devil's pawn."
Then it was time for Undertaker to make his annual big return. The Deadman ran through a quartet of ineffectual Royal heels much to the crowd's delight. Knowing what we know now, it's also neat in hindsight to see Taker teaming with his real life BSK clique. All 4 members of Taker's team survived in what amounted to a glorified squash.
The Wild Card Match was a fun one off gimmick deal in the same way the Ultimate Survival Match was at SS 90 (fwiw I thought about voting for Survivor Series 90 and it would have made a Top 30 list). ============= 9. IYH December 95 had the lowest Cagematch rating of the 20 shows I voted for. But it's also pretty much the ultimate Baker show. Jeff Jarrett returns! Owen beats Diesel! Sid & The Kid's lone PPV appearance as a team! Dean Douglas! Buddy Landel! Hog Pen Match! Goldust/Razor feud begins! XANTA KLAUS~! What a show!
To everybody else it's a one match show. But what a match! With Bret & Bulldog having my 1995 MOTY. Just a simple thing like Bret bleeding was a HUGE deal at the time. The Taker/Diesel confrontation at the end was also very cool. That was such a huge "Uh oh! Business just picked up!" moment to my friends and I. The Hog Pen Match is actually good and most of what I know about wrestling psychology stems from that match. ============= 10. Spring Stampede 1999- Buying this tape on a whim for a few bucks in the dying days of video stores is one of the better wrestling-related impulse purchases I ever made. Knew nothing about this show going in other than the match listings on the back of the box looked promising. Ended up seeing the last great WCW PPV. I'm bummed out this show failed to reach 20 points. Though it did have the most voters (3) among the shows under 20 pts.
Juvy/Blitzkrieg is top notch 1999 Cruiserweight wrestling. Bigelow/Sandman is its Hardcore equivalent. Flock/Horsemen is my favorite WCW tag match of the entire 90s. The 4 Way main event, Steiner/Booker, Rey/Kidman, and even Nash/Goldberg are all perfectly cromulent affairs. The Tacoma crowd was excellent. I really liked the DDP/Hogan stuff in the main event. It's just too bad it didn't lead to more. Still, this is a great example of what WCW could produce on those rare occasions when they weren't shooting themselves in the foot. ============ Timeline: Gotta cover my other four later. Then I'll reveal another show or two before I go to sleep tonight.
