For those who really did not get to see Moxley's Just a Sick Guy era, this is a great recap of just how fucking crazy and unhinged early Mox was. His pre-WWE promo work was his best work by far. He was not really anything special in the ring perse, but his character work was so damn good and his promos were utterly unhinged and so damn good.
Some of my favorite promos in this video including the origin of the Sick Guy gimmick. The video nails too why this was so good. It felt real, like what you see is what you get. It was surreal for him to do shoots and reveal it was a gimmick, because it did not feel like it at all. It felt like he really had a serious fucking screw loose like some of the other deathmatch guys.
Some great matches too with Moxley using a very simple 70's style brawling style.
That tangled web match was basically peak CZW. Drake was so damn good before he went all Q.

I just wanted to co-sign the support for the video. I watched it a few weeks ago and it was a really good recap and evaluation of Moxley's career. I only ever caught bits and pieces of it. I was just starting to get into ROH as Moxley was blowing up on the Indies and it was the first real sign that ROH was out of touch with the current scene. Guys like Brodie Lee, Jon Moxley, Sami Callihan, PAC, Ricochet etc. were blowing up and ROH seemingly past over them for talent with not as much buzz.
The thing that stands out to me now is how young Moxley's voice is and how the bass of his voice now really adds to the promo.
Context is key as well and Moxley was cutting a lot of these promos before Punk blew up and there weren't many great promos in the business anymore. I think outside of Steen no one had the hype of Moxley as far as promos go and Steen's promos are kind of cringe worthy to revisit as well.
Watching the video back and I can't believe there were people out there who thought he should beat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. Even if you enjoy his shtick, absolutely not in a 100 years would Moxley make sense as the guy.

I watched it, and I enjoyed it. Nice retrospective into not only Moxley's career, but a decent overview of the indy scene at the time. I found it fascinating that Brian Danielson was wrestling on the Indies not only during his suspension from WWE, but after he had become the WWE US Champion.
Honestly I don't think those Moxley promos were as amazing as he says they are. Maybe they were great promos for independent wrestling, and I agree that he has an authenticity that few others possess, but I much prefer Moxley's more modern promos, both in WWE and AEW.

Such a great video. Watched it a few weeks ago when it came up on my recommendations list. I need to watch more from this guy. Mox will always have love from me, not just because of his talent across the board, but also for representing the 513. Obviously no one can take Pillman's place as Cincinnati's best wrestling export and favorite son, but Mox is a damn close #2. Super bummed that S.C. are reuniting at Sami's next Wrestling Revolver show almost a week from now but it's in fucking Iowa instead of Dayton.
