UFC’s reigning Light Heavyweight Champion and self-diagnosed “massive wrestling fan” Daniel Cormier had a lot to say about a certain spot in a Young Bucks match at this Friday’s ROH Final Battle pay-per-view. It began with a tweet from fellow MMA fighter Phil Baroni (yes, the same Phil Baroni that desperately wanted to fight CM Punk) and evolved into a full blown conversation on today’s modern “high spot” culture in pro wrestling.

The Young Bucks and fellow Bullet Club brother Hangman Page were defending the ROH World 6-Man Tag Team Championships at Final Battle, against the wild high-flying team of Flip Gordon, Titan and Dragon Lee. Cormier responded to the video calling the spot “pathetic”.

“This is actually pathetic. This is what people wanna see? Go to a god dang gymnastics competition. Suplex, bodyslam, piledriver do some old school wrestling man. DDT, I remember when the Frankensteiner was the most you’d ever see someone flip. I say Boo to this BS.”

The UFC champion then began engaging with others on Twitter, in particular wrestling and MMA journalist Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, who cited the Young Bucks’ massive popularity as proof that their style of wrestling obviously appeals to a sizable audience.

I get it and understand ur point. I know it’s entertainment but the hint of truth helps. It was so choreographed that everything was just to visible if that makes sense. 

Cormier continued pleading his own case, claiming that wrestlers are “just out there searching for” crowd chants. He even praised WWE Superstar Bobby Roode for his particular style.

“I believe what happened is now guys are just out there searching for that. Just wrestle the match and when the high spot happens fans will appreciate it. Do you remember when a chair shot was considered crazy. Those days are gone! 22 chair shots to the head lol”.

“I get it and I applaud them for doing it. Always make money. Not my cup of tea. Give me a spine buster and I’m good. [Arn Anderson style. That’s why I love Bobby Roode. Spinebuster, powerbomb. Shit like that. I expressed my opinion.”

Wow....but who took 22 chair shots to the head?

As previously reported, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier made some waves in the wrestling world after trashing a segment in a recent Ring of Honor match, which featured the Young Bucks and Hangman Page defending their ROH six-man titles. Cormier called the spot “pathetic” before issuing several other tweets complaining about today’s modern “high spot” style of wrestling.

Standing up for his Bullet Club brothers, the “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes was quick to chime in, calling out the UFC mega star and going straight for the jugular.

It's not pathetic. The paying audience enjoyed it. UFC is thriving, and pro-wrestling has been going strong since 1920...besides most of y'all ask hunter for a job when the wheels fall off anyway and most are on the comp list at staples...so lay the fuck off. 


WWE Superstars Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson, who have had to deal with the Young Bucks’ popular “F— The Revival” catchphrase for more than a year, wasted very little time backing the corner of Cormier.

i think Daniel just needs to worry about UFC.

What does UFC have anything to do with it, just a wrestling fan voicing his opinion about wrestling, not sure why Cody Rhodes would take a shot like that as if Cormier was beating on his chest saying MMA is better than wrestling or something? Are UFC fans/fighters who are wrestling fans not allowed to have an opinion about wrestling? I've noticed a lot of wrestlers and fans have a weird insecurity/contempt towards MMA and anyone/anything slightly associated with it, it's on full display there in the Cody Rhodes tweet as Cormier never even mentions MMA in his criticism, Cody goes full DJM on him.

Really? I mean, some of what he said is almost word for word some of the criticism for the Young Bucks I've read from wrestling fans who don't even watch MMA. 

Does being an MMA fan disqualify you from having an opinion about pro wrestling? 

I happen to like the flip stuff but to each's own. I get the dislike for it though.

Cody Rhodes just comes off like a real douchebag. This guy would be nowhere near where is without Dusty and Dustin's connection with the WWE and how much both are well liked. That isn't to say he hasn't earned anything or hasn't sacrificed a lot, but like cmon. You've got a job for however long you'd like because of your last name, how do you seriously have the ability to complain about past their prime guys looking to get back into the business or get a payday?

Come the fuck on dude. Like I get it, they're your boys but show some fucking non-bias for a change. Not everybody is going to like the same things. It isn't shitting on anything. The Young Bucks are probably laughing this shit off.

I hate to admit it but the business is changing. If what the Bucks do was so terrible, they wouldn't be so popular.

Exactly. DC is a fan of wrestling voicing his opinion just like all of us here. So why does he have to “stick to the UFC”?

Don't take what Missy said to heart, she didn't mean anything by the comment - she was just sticking up for the Bucks.

I don't have an issue with the Bucks in this capacity. They're the stars of their own division which happens to be car-crash wrestling. Maybe it would be better if less guys stopped doing dives, but it's merely a sideshow attraction.

With that said, I wish they'd get rid of the Six Man Championship belts.

I love the Bucks, but that dropkick spot was the shits. It is one of those spots that makes the business look bad. One thing I wish more Indy wrestlers would realize is that just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. It looked so fake that it shatters suspension of disbelief, which is a universally bad thing to do in wrestling. That undermines the entire show.

Honestly, stuff like the dropkick spot and Ryan's dick spot can work in the right context. A big ROH show where it stuck out like a sore thumb is not it. If the spot gels with everything else that happened that on a show, it can work, no matter how ridiculous. The problem with the dropkick spot was that it was wildky out of place on a show like this. Context and timing is important.
