He'll sign a contract extension probably.

I'm going to assume Cody Rhodes will sign a new contract. Honestly, I like this especially if it means Cody challenging Hangman for the title. Afterall, Rhodes not getting any title shots at the heavyweight title, was a part of his old contract.

He doesn't deserve anything but a punch in the mouth.

Um... WOW. They must REALLY need cash for posting something this stupid. Cody does not have a fucking yearly contract. That is not how Executive Vice Presidents work.  Cody owns a bunch of the trademarks himself as he started to lock them down before Khan was onboard.

So TECHNIALLY he COULD show up for the Rumble....

I can't wait to see the " Cody Rhodes : Free Agent " t-shirt and can't wait to hear the pompous promo about " independent contractors " being treated better in AEW.

See @ness, this is why you & DJM made a great podcasting duel. You're both realists.

It's starting to sound like there was a contract in the works and Cody just couldn't sign it because he couldn't travel to Jacksonville. He was in isolation for COVID when his contract lapsed on the 5th and had to be physically present to put pen to paper.

It's a little weird that they're ghosting big Dave though. In his discussion board post he said they would only ignore him like this if it was true and everyone was mad, or it's a work and they don't want to lie.

I think people are really confusing his in ring contract and his executive role.  No way he started the fed with only a three year VP contract, it would be completely idiotic and the fastest way to get utterly fucked over.

I think he isn't being offered the position of power he once had. I think Cody has one foot out the door from wrestling altogether, even if tempoary. Clear he wants to be a movie star. Guest started in Arrow, did a SciFy show ageas ago(Forgot the name of the show), did the TNT game show stuff, has his own reality show. Add that he is a new father and I think him being full time hands on is borderline over. Add he had some tension with The Elite and I think it's that they could not get a deal done together that made sense. Cody will probably venture out and do non-wrestling stuff, maybe some comic book/video game stuff if open but if he returns, it's AEW or bust. 

Anyone confirm the story today?

I’m like 99% sure it went like this:

-Cody couldn’t sign his contract because he had COVID.

-he technically became a free agent but has every intention of signing with AEW, and possibly already has.

-someone realized this (probably SRS) and reported it.

-Dave asked around for confirmation that he hadn’t re-signed yet. Nobody said anything so he assumed the worst because if he re-signed someone probably would have told him so.

-Cody realized this is an amazing opportunity for his current gimmick.

-Cody and Tony are laughing their asses off at all of us over this and tomorrow’s Cody segment is going to be a million times better than whatever they originally had planned.

I'm surprised they didn't come up with the completely original idea of " I'm going to be a free agent, and leave with the title "
