Poor Cody is trying so hard to make people like him. 1. Make a reference mocking WWE. 2. Reference a figure that has past that everyone loved usually Dusty or Brodie. 3. Tries to show he is just like everyone else. That's been every Cody promo since he left WWE. Yep that was the point I was making. I am still don't hate him but all his promos seems to include those 3 bullet points.

So in the latest episode of his shitty podcast, Bubba Ray Dipshit said that Moxley should have started his promo with apologizing to the fans for being away. Right away, fuck that and fuck him. But he also compared Moxley's alcoholism to the fact that Rape-Apologist Tommy Dreamer liking to eat a lot of food. Fuck this giant jabronie.

For once, Cody got me to listen to his promo and held my attention. Not just held my attention. I was interested in what he was saying. I mean, is he wrong? While CM Punk was retired, Cody was going around the world, joining Bullet Club, teaming with the Young Bucks and Kenny, starting AEW. Sure, most of what he did in NJPW/ROH was shite, but the end result is AEW, which is certainly not shite. He did, indeed, build the Forbidden Door. Perhaps not single-handedly, but he did. He was the first pure WWE guy to start doing this stuff. Jericho came after him and certainly had a much bigger impact since he had ten times the WWE star power to begin with, but Cody did do good work, as much as it pains me to say it.
After that tirade he started to lose me. I find that when Cody cuts a long promo, I often lose the point he's trying to make. Is that on me or on him? He's disappointed in the Young Bucks fighting against "developmental talent" ReDragon. That's a good quip. Then he talks about his friend Ricky Starks picking a fight with Jay Lethal. He says Jay Lethal in a condescending tone, like he's about to bury him like he did ReDragon, then goes on to praise his finisher. I don't get it? Then he talks about Brody King and how he has the same name (well, it sounds the same...) as Brodie Lee. Again, I don't get it? What connects these wrestlers you're bringing up?
It circles back to Sammy Guevara and the TNT Title. He says that titles that don't have the word "World" in it are secondary titles. Still true in AEW, Cody, no matter how much you deny it. But I can't fault the effort of getting his own belt over.
Mixed bag of a promo. It felt like he was trying to cut three different promos at once and mushed them together awkwardly. The first part, about the Forbidden Door, was fantastic. The third part, the Ladder match challenge to Sammy, fine. That's a good story. The bit in the middle...it was interesting, but when I started to think about it, what's his point? I don't know.
Not a Pipebomb I'm afraid, but a very good effort.

I did come off dismissive earlier KITN, watching anything with your friends always enhances it and your Shawn Spears getting owned made that segment better for me as well so there you go. It was just that I made a point of tuning into see Punk wrestle and see what he could do with Spears after all that nonsense on Rampage and it was nothing.
Can we talk about this forbidden door for a second? What is it? Because I was under the impression the forbidden door was built by Harold Meij of NJPW after the Elite left the company to start AEW. AEW thought they could work with NJPW and they had to bide their time until Harold was out before they could bring in the KENTAs and Satoshi Kojimas of the world.
If we're talking cross-overs, that had been happening for years well before Cody.
If we're talking about building AEW, sure but he's just one piece. Ultimately it was Tony Khan who recognised he could actually make some money and buy his way into the business. Cody didn't create that momentum, I'd argue Jericho made a much bigger splash than he did.

- Fantastic promo by Moxley. He can speak from the heart and captivate an audience like few others, and he doesn't waffle on either. - Great mixed tag match. They found an interesting way to keep Cole vs Orange alive despite Cole pinning him twice. Cole really needs to eat a loss though, too many undefeated streaks in AEW. - Punk vs Spears was hilarious. Was not expecting that at all. Agree with Big Pete that the Wardlow angle has been dragged out way too long. I say this every week, nice for someone else to mention it. KITN is right though, Wardlow is great at playing the mistreated employee who is ready to explode. I just hope they deliver when the explosion comes. They really need to go all-in with it. - Entertaining squash from House of Black. Also interesting to see a wrestler lose confidence executing a move like Pillman Jr. did. - Malakai Black is great, but PAC is simply on another level. Not only was that promo god tier but he also used the word "cretin" which gives him even more points. - Welcome back Jake. You say Archer doesn't have to wait in line, so he doesn't. Fair enough. Hangman is fine with it. Fuck the ranking system. - Criticising Archer's credibility just because of the length of the match is missing the point. That match was 95% Archer on offense. The most Kazarian got was a 1 count. It was a squash match. Yeah you could argue it shouldn't have taken so long, but he destroyed Kazarian pretty effortlessly. - Lambert aligning with Archer makes no sense. AEW addresses this by basically saying "it doesn't need to make sense". OK then. The way I see it, Lambert doesn't like Hangman, so he's siding with the guy who wants to beat up Hangman. Doesn't need to be more complicated than that. Did enjoy Archer ripping the mic from Lambert though. - Nice brawl between Hangman and Archer. Shows that Hangman can hang, even if he didn't hit the Buckshot. - Red Velvet. Kris Statlander. I know you are nice human beings, but it's pretty clear you needed to drop Leyla a long time ago. You didn't need to wait for her to physically attack you to realise that. - Sorry Ethan Page, I could give you five hours and you still can't convince me you stand a chance against Moxley. - I'm impressed by the main event. My expectations were low. Sure, The Acclaimed made some great vignettes, but I expected this to be a mediocre filler win for Darby and Sting. Instead they laid out the match really well, Acclaimed got a lot of shine and got closer to the win than I ever expected. Sting also did most of the work in the match which was a surprise. Good stuff. The Acclaimed have got their well-deserved spotlight. Let's see what they do with it.

My favourite part of the Cody promo?   I love Pro Wrestling.
So watching the promo again I still don't think the first third makes any sense. What he was angling at is that he's helped make it possible for guys like CM Punk to do what they wanted to do. So please cheer me because those cheers helped me when I started this company and did irrepreble damage to my brain and body. They helped me when my best friend forgot to gimmick the chair and busted me open, they helped me when I took a stupid dive and gave myself a scar right above my eye and they helped me when I lost a bet with Preston Vance and had to get this hideous neck tatoo (seriously that would be a better explanation than reality).
Then he transitioned to how the company fell to shit in two weeks. We've got the Young Bucks wasting everybody's time with this reDragon nonsense. We have Maaaaaaa~lakai Blaaaaaa~ck coming in here with a guy who calls himself Brody. His point was 'hey so we're not like the WWE...but ummm...maybe we should be like the WWE?!' Also shout out to my best friend Ricky Starks, that's right, I'm making that cannon now, Ricky Starks please protect the cutter because lord knows the RKO isn't one of the most well known finishers in all of Pro Wrestling.
Speaking of Brodie, let me remind you of this title guys like me, Miro, Darby all built up. Just because it doesn't say world doesn't mean it's any less important, TK told me so!! Beach Break, 2 titles, 1 champion you and me in a ladder match Sammy, what do you say?

I've tuned Cody out. I'm very tired of his act. Santana & Ortiz have every right to be upset. Jericho's ego has caused resentment.
