Shootist is up! This is going to be an interesting one. Off the top of my head I think I have most similar tastes to RT but not sure I really have the same tastes as most of the drafters.

Sheesh more picks, I'm not sure how to approach this one. If people dig deep I laid out some pretty good ideas in a thread dedicated to this topic a year or so ago. Against my own personal preference I'll start with Queen

Yesterday? The Beatles? Just a day in the life of RT. Let it be buddy. Happiness is a warm gun. All you need is love. Ask me why. I'm Gonna sit right down and cry. I could go on but I won't. Hey is rtd2 (aka the boy) named after a Beatles song? I'd say which one I'm thinking of but then I'm pretty much announcing his name to the universe which I don't want to do.

Zepplin was my other thought for first pick. Had to go with the bigger act in the end.
Still a bit jealous though. Got some other heavy metal ideas for my list though.

I get Live Aid and all that but the Beatles are massive headliners and would sell out head-to-head against any band from the 60s on. Even just imagining what their sets would have looked like post-Rubber Soul makes it that more alluring.
Of course they wouldn't compete with the mighty Led Zep and seeing the original line-up with one of the all-time great percussionists.

Playing 25 minutes and being drowned out by screams is not my idea of a good live experience. They have always been a studio band for me.

This is the only reason I almost took Zepplin, but they’re the biggest act ever for nearly 60 years and I’ll take the potential of the band that got their start tearing down clubs in Liverpool, playing on rooftops, still arguably the biggest band of all-time to this day.

It would be a risk for sure but even the allure makes them my first second behind Zep draft pick.
Personally I'm a bigger fan of Queen, so I'm sold already.

Always have been PW's favourite band and the quality of their live performance on the massive stage is without question. I also don't view The Beatles as a particularly effective festival band. They pre-date the huge music festivals.

Screw PW, I'm not booking this festival for them, this is what my ideal festival would look like. With that said, my 'festival retirement' was short lived when I found out Metallica were going to headline Soundwave one year, so that's a good shout in my books. Speaking of my co-headliner, let's go with one that speaks to multiple generations. Not the biggest band of all-time, but very influential and dare I say the spiritual successors to The Beatles... I'm talking about...
#2 Nirvana
Actually hits close to home since Nirvana were the first headline act for the Big Day Out. BDO signed them right before Nevermind came out and they exploded, turning this little festival that was going to have a bunch of local acts playing alongside the Violent Femmes to what was a rite of passage for 20+ years.
Also if any of you try to double book Dave, I'll equalise you.

Interesting approaches so far , seems like most are just going with the GOATS. Michael Jackson and AC/DC would be a hell of an odd pairing at a festival for me.

While a lot of music festivals follow a theme or genre, the big ones just get whatever huge headliners they can and fill in the rest. Coachella and Lolapalooza are guilty of this for sure. You’ll see Rage Against The Machine one night and Kanye West the next. I decided I was just going to pick the biggest acts I could with each pick and see what I ended up with. If it doesn’t work out I don’t care. Just having fun.

Let's go with another artist that has universal appeal and break down some cultural barriers while we're at it.
#3 Jimi Hendrix
Hendrix is just one of those bucket-list acts I would have loved to have ticked off but it was never going to happen. Even if you hadn't really listened to Hendrix before, I think you'd at least have to check him out live to see what the fuss was about.

Before the pandemic hit, this band was meant to be doing another comeback tour and I was considering going to my first ever multi-day concert event to see them I'm talking about...
Their music is just as relevant today and it transcends race and culture.
I've also seen them headline a festival and they were awesome. Bjork of all people opened for them (don't steal that pick...or I'll do to you what she did to a Thai journalist)

I don't care if I lose because I didn't stick with a "theme" my music festival could tour the world for 50 years and sell out every single night.
Arguably the greatest band of all-time, arguably the greatest rock guitarist of all-time, the King of Pop and the King of Rock.
I could forfeit my 5th pick and it would still be hard to beat. But oh, sorry, I didn't pick all heavy metal bands. Oopsie.

But oh, sorry, I didn't pick all heavy metal bands. Oopsie. Don't get ahead of yourself, we can all make more or less the same claims. Difference is, some fans attending your festival will just watch AC/DC and disappear, or go back to camp and get shitfaced if it's a camping festival. Other fans just show up to watch headliners The Beatles, fuck everyone else. People purchasing a ticket for Emperor's Glorious Rock And Metal Extravaganza will get their money's worth. They're going to like at least three out of the four bands on my bill. Not paying just to see one act.
