I have been the biggest proponent I know of the question the realm of psych and mental health and I do enjoy questioning the value of words. It seems the value of the word disease is about as valuable as the word salad. With jello salads, tuna salads, strawberry pretzel salads etc all wearing the word salad the word has no indication of a pile of leafy greens as it may be assumed. Same with the word disease. To me, it used to indicate something. Not it just seems watered down with addiction being a disease. But now with the World Health Organization naming excessive video gaming a disease the word has lost all credibility. At one point I am sure I should have collected disability for this one. www.usnews.com/news/health-care-news/articles/2017-12-26/excessive-video-gaming-to-be-named-mental-disorder-by-who

You gotta be kidding me. It’s like the sudden epidemic of everyone claiming to have anxiety, can’t anyone just be nervous sometimes? Maybe they diagnose it more to sell more pharmaceuticals. /Tinfoil
Facebook is another one I see a lot of articles claiming is an addiction, I used it a lot and it was having a negative impact on my life, so I deleted it, problem solved.
I feel like no one takes responsibility for their actions anymore. I drink a lot more Pepsi than I should, I’ve taken breaks many times before with no issues . If I suddenly need dental work, I’ll be sure to blame my disease that made me addicted though.

You gotta be kidding me. It’s like the sudden epidemic of everyone claiming to have anxiety, can’t anyone just be nervous sometimes? I remember less than 10 years ago, everyone's kid had autism. All of them. Then suddenly a few years ago, everyone became an introvert - because that's a new fun word, right. I guess behavioral issues, mental health and personality traits are fluid now - like gender, sex and colour.

Jeez people get fired up over literally anything.
Disorders are not the same as diseases. A disorder is a functional abnormality. If you hit the criteria described in the diagnostic where you are negatively affecting your life with video games and choose to keep playing with little control over your use of them knowing more negatives are coming, you are probably a little abnormal.
This is one of those things where if they called it something else everybody would be like “yeah that person had problems” but because they put gaming in the title it is a problem of overdiagnosis.

to conflate things. according to WHO. Gender dysphoria not so much a problem. The urge to cut off your breasts fine. Urge to cut off your arm, no. Urge to play video games no.
