I'd usually agree and skip the bullshit collectibles, though I am generally a completionist myself (I'll get them all someday...maybe), the plan was to skip them in BotW...BUT THEY TIE THEM TO THE DAMN INVENTORY! Terrible collectibles are annoying, terrible collectibles central to critical upgrades are atrocious, as I would want max inventory slots (thanks to their also shit durability system).Need damn near 500 (that's twice as much as way too many) of the fuckers, takes almost 100 hours for just that. BOO! BOO I SAY! As mostly great as BotW was, it's one of the most bafflingly bad game design decisions in recent memory, if not ever. Even then you don't need max inventory slots and you trip over enough Korok seeds to have all the space you need.
You need less than half the korok seeds to max everything, even then, who needs 20 shields? Yep, we're doing this again. Less than less than half of 900 is still a ridiculous number. And ME, I need 20 shields! I need all the shields there are! If you're gonna have a terrible durability system, you shouldn't also have a terrible inventory system. Pick one, Nintendo, you absolute twats. Korok seeds take as much time as pretty much the entire rest of the game, the person who thought that was acceptable to implement deserves the purplest of nurples while having his dumb balls punted all the way to the roof of his dumb mouth. A sequel should never repeat the biggest mistakes of its predecessor, should always be improving.

I enjoyed it because it usually rewarded my sense of curiosity and I'd have something to show for each session even if I just spent it exploring the map. I never felt like I was missing out on anything having less than 20 shields at one time. Don't try it till you knock it Rags!
All they had to do was add a few more sidequests for impervious weapons and it would have been hunky dory.

I did try it, before collecting all the korok seeds...it was hell. A living, practically shieldless, hell. But even just stumbling around the world, you have to constantly fuck about to even collect a couple hundred, you practically have to lift every rock in the game....just in case. 900 is just way too many, especially as a compulsive collector. I spent more than a week (6-8+ hour days) just to get half of them in BotW, just not fun, especially considering how few different ways to get them there are. Absolutely kills replayabilty. If they just added a NG+ that keeps Korok seeds collected, it would instantly lessen the damage, but oh no, we can't have too many GOOD design decisions forced in. Riddler trophies caught hell for just a couple hundred.

I was curious to see how many Korok seeks I collected in BOTW.
46.
At least I'm pretty sure the loading screen was a total. That was just from me virtually tripping over them and I never felt like I was going without. I could see if you have to go full Completionist it'd be annoying, but for mine it meant I was virtually tripping over them and getting rewarded for simpling walking around the map.

TOTK Update
I made it onto the overworld. Despite being told to go to the Lookout, I decided I knew better and went to Kakariko instead. I attempted to do the shrine at the top of the mountain, but after dying right next to the alter after an hour of play I gave up. I had to look at what the solution was and I needed the glider.
Next section I decided to go to the Lookout and found out that it's the 'correct' path to go on. They told me I needed to get to Hyrule Castle, so after trying to get over there via a raft but failing dismally, I found out you can just climb over the gate in the drawer bridge. I was able to unlock the first tower and get glider so I decided to activate more towers.
I went to the one closest to Kakiriko. I went there earlier only to be told I needed to go to Lookout, so I came back only to be told to collect mushrooms at a nearby cave. I did so and even unlocked a hidden room to shoot one of the phantom toads, dumped all the mushrooms at the bird-mans feet and nothing.
I tried again, breaking every boulder and even waiting until another Blood Moon to harvest more mushrooms and nothing. I spent over an hour trying to do this, I just looked up the answer and I'm pissed. If that's the only solution, then I feel completely misled.

Our copy showed up yesterday. Long story short there was a mix up when we paid for our pre order so it shipped late.
Wife has been playing it all day and sending me pictures. I’m off tomorrow so I know what I’m doing.

To the surprise of no one....
About 13-14 hours in, yeah this game is really fun. It is so easy to get caught up in straying away from the main story and just getting to the shrines & towers and all the other miniquests. Last night I played a good 3 1/2 hours and did not a single storyline but got my 6th heart and 1st stamina upgrade while opening up a fair portion of the map. It's addictive for that alone.
I found that during segments where I got to a town where the FPS dipped really bad(Karikicho Village my goodness it was like slo-mo at one point.) and the nuances like trying to climb a mountain while it's raining gets a bit annoying but overall, this game feels really fun to even chill & explore and kill an evening after work. Surprised how much I am digging this game.

So after that nonsense with Billison and the tower near Kakariko I decided to return to the Lookout. I went and explored Hyrule Castle and collected some weapons, korok seeds etc. I went to the tower and took another sky dive to look out for some nearby shrines. I decided to go counter-clockwise but after completing the second shrine, I found myself near another tower down the south. This was behind a goblin fortress, so I just cheesed it and climbed up the side of the cliff, made a beeline through the mob to the tower and unlocked it to unlock the map. My plan is to to clear out the area around Lookout, build up some cash and upgrade some armour before checking out some of the destinations.

Is off to a great start, I really like the new powers, just holy hell the inventory is already tedious, couldn't just leave that one thing intact. The go through the ceiling power is amazing, saves so much trouble. I only got as far as getting back down to Hyrule proper and clearing a couple shrines, I'll pick it up in the morning. The games are mostly great, just terrible as a completionist.

Just got back to Hyrule. This game is so much fun already.
I got one of those glider things and put like 6 fans on it and launched myself off a cliff. My kids were laughing their asses off. My battery drained in like 3 seconds then I nosedived and tried to aim for a body of water and missed completely.

Glad I got in while the getting was good, the item duplication glitch that helps minimize the more tedious parts of the game got patched out...and I'm not updating shit until I finish. Stuff like that should NEVER be patched out of a single player game, nullifying saving graces to a bad inventory system and grindfuck tedium.

How did everybody find the game? I finally got around to beating it after 100 or so hours. It was difficult to appreciate everything Nintendo was going for considering the sheer amount of content but I thought the game did an excellent job of raising the stakes and justfying a revisit. Admittedly I feel like this will get better with each subsequent playthrough as my playthrough was incredibly awkward and clumsy.
Re-reading a few posts, and was there ever a fix for the ^ menu, Rags? That was one complaint I had, so many items that it made it really annoying to find the right element.

I play it as often as I can. Absolutely love it. I am going to 100% this game even if it kills me.
I haven't fought Ganon yet. My wife and kids have all beaten him more than once but I haven't bothered. Zelda probably looking down on me like "wtf bro you can kill a Lynel in like 2 minutes what are you waiting for?"

I tried to take on the Lynel en route to Gannon, but it kicked my ass. There was no way I was going to waste all the gloom recovery meals just to take it down.
I'm starting to look at some guides online just to see what I missed or how others solved certain puzzles. Apparantly I only completed 40% of the game, so there's still plenty of content left over. Right now I'm checking out different guides just to see how others solved certain dungeons and what content I may have missed. I'm weighing up whether I should do some of these sidequests now, or save them for my next playthrough which will be more thorough but more streamlined.

I thought you had to. At least that's what my wife said. She got smacked around so she left and cooked like 20 Sundelion meals then went back.
