I spose Nintendo still have Pokemon to look forward to in November, but that's a pretty big blow in their release line-up. Personally I'm grateful, it was going to be difficult to fit Splatoon 3, Xenoblade Chronicles and Pokemon Violet in there.

North American spring?
If they get rid of the broken weapons mechanic I’ll consider it, otherwise pass. Played OG for a few hours & thankfully was able to sell it and break even.

Haven't gotten to BOTW1 so this is great news for me. Makes sense, this would have cannibalized the other Nintendo 1st party titles around winter. It now has Spring all to itself.

That's right, which wouldn't be too uncommon for the series. Breath of the Wild 1 came out in March '17 and Wind Waker came out in March '03.
I thought the weapon mechanic would bother me more but the game gives you so many weapons to play around with that it became really easy to adjust to.

That sucks but not totally unsurprising.
It's fine though, as there's other games coming out that I want to play, as well as others on my wish list that I plan on buying.

What's on your radar Lony? No official date just yet, but I suspect Bayonetta 3 will be released in '22 which is another release I'm looking forward to.

Watching Zelda streams tonight. It looks like a masterpiece for sure. Think it is a lock for Game of the Year. It is just that amazing. First game that really is making me consider getting a switch.
I really wish Nintendo after a year delay would do PC releases as this game def is pushing the limits of the switch and could look absolutely amazing on the PC with more powerful hardware to give it crisper visuals.

Just went to Gamestop and got it. Missed out on the store exclusive wooden plaque but you had to go to the midnight release to get that which I wasn't doing in a different borough. Long line after me so I know this game is going to sell like hotcakes. Spoke with the manager as well, sounded like a massive Midnight release.
Not sure what Nintendo has up their sleeves after this besides Pikmin 4 & the Pokemon Scar/Vio DLC but this one is going to destroy sales.
Can't wait to try it tonight.

I'm curious to see how you go with the tutorial island. I only had a short time to muck around with it and after the cut-scenes it seemed like a lot of the new powers were laborious. Having to constantly rotate and line stuff up so I can cross a platform, I hope there's a quicker way because it just seems like a more tedious BOTW so far.

Cohh already stopped playing Zelda as he did not like it, and oh boy, it created a fucking shitstorm. Guess people could not get how someone who does not like Zelda, did not really like the new game.

He handled it wrong by deleting the videos off his Youtube, seems like a shit way to force people to sit through ads and watch his twitch VODs to see his few hour impression. I get the fan's frustration given he never plays Pokemon seriously and very rarely plays Nintendo games(He will finish Redfall and other PC oriented games regardless of how good they are) but not everyone will like the same game and you gotta respect their opinions on it.

Yeah I did the 2 early shrines thus far, yeah this is way too much to be honest. There's a part where they expect you to build a raft/boat and I spent a good 15 minutes trying to rotate it and see if it can swim upright but it never ended up working. I guess you needed to build one with more width but I ended up just cutting up 8 or so trees and formed a long giant log bridge that gave me just enough stamina to cross to the shrine. The rotation stuff is super frustrating though, overall I feel there's almost too many controls involved with this game.

I didn't have as tough a time, but even then the mast refused to stick on the way I wanted to. I travelled across easily enough but the whole process feels cumbersome. For instance in that first shrine where you have to combine the hook onto the wooden crate to reach the exit was clunky for me. First I had to line it up, then I had to make sure it was attatched, then I had to make sure it wasn't on a steep incline so I had enough time to travel across. I'm hopeful that there's some skill attatched and it can be performed smoothly, because it feels like every puzzle is annoying rubix cube.
BOTW had similar puzzles but they were far more streamlined.

I felt really good after building that bridge. I also tried to navigate that NPC over the hookline but the entire thing fell halfway and he fell to his death(Only to respawn but I lost all of the items necessary including the hooks). I was laughing so hard thinking he was going to reunite with his partner only to fall almost halfway through. That was another 10 minute waste trying to hook the damn thing on. I have no idea why they toss additional/unnecessary items in these tutorials if you really wanted to show how to do something. I'm wasting time thinking the 2nd hook was necessary only to realize it wasn't. The ball & chains also meant nothing. And I touched the 3rd shrine and can already see a super frustrating cold weather gimmick where your health drops while your in cold weather. Given Link's shirtless, I get the realism but it's a game that I fought these stone sentry enemies & jelly goo enemies, now we draw the line for realism. I barely played BOTW so the durability doesn't really phase me too much but I know I will be in for a long one if these are the puzzles that will keep happening. I like that there's multiple ways to go about solving something(so far) though.

I like that there's multiple ways to go about solving something(so far) though. The weather incentivises the player to cook meals. There should be a cave with a cooking pot and some chillis nearby. The idea is that you have cook a few protein meals with the chillis and you'll have cold resistance for 5-10 minutes.
I just spent my last play through playing through that Korok section. I simply attatched the fan to the cart, threw the Korok on and away we went. It was the other rail puzzle that had me racking my brain and the entire time I was just thinking this must be making Blindy go crazy. One of the rails is broken, so you have to try and figure out a way to balance it. The solution is simple, the problem is the game punishes you by sending you to the first island over or if you bail early taking your resources away. I tried saving it, thinking it may save everything, but it always takes you back to that first island. It was actually an easy puzzle, as I just had to turn it into a gondola but the trial and error was so punishing. I was annoyed to discover it was an optional puzzle and the real pathway was through the cave.
Fair enough if we were into the overworld, but this is the tutorial level. Cut me some slack Nintendo!
I had the same problem before getting to the first shrine. I came out of the cave and saw the elevated platform with the broken staircase. So I made like George Washington, cut down some trees so I could have a surface to climb on only to get destroyed by the machines up there. I was running low on rations at this point as well and only realised later I had to turn around and use those logs to scale the mountain. I just reached the temple before calling it a session.
EDIT: On second thought, the korok reunion may have been an entirely different situation. I'm talking about the part where there's a huge dispenser that gives you futuristic items.

I thought I would spare the VGM thread. Plus it'll be easier to look back on our experiences and how things have aged. My TL;DR is that I've nearly spent three hours on the tutorial so far. Crafting seems finicky and the game isn't really forgiving when it comes to trial and error. Granted I took an hour trying to solve an optional puzzle that should have only taken a minute and looking at gameplay footage was introduced before the second shrine. I just didn't come across it.
Also ignore my cooking instructions Blindy. 5 chillis will give you 17 minutes of cold resistance.

Someone please sell me or discourage me on this game, I was completely put off by the weapon durability in BOTW but everywhere I look people are giving this game 10/10 s.
Are the cutscenes and tutorials skippable?

Yes cutscenes and tutorials can be skipped but weapon durability is still in the game. I'm in the open world now Big Pete, I did it. Now I am just hunting for more of those green shrines. Hoping I can boost my health.

I've been thinking about you and @ness while I've been playing System and whether I'd consider recommending it. If anything, it leans more into the changes BOTW introduced with even more DIY puzzle solving than before. Weapons are just as brittle as before and a fair chunk of the game is just inventory management as you're constantly throwing items away so you're not left stranded while mining minerals or cutting down trees. If you didn't like what Nintendo did with BOTW, you'll really dislike this game.

Just don't go full Jirard The Completionist and you'll be fine Rags. I'd usually agree and skip the bullshit collectibles, though I am generally a completionist myself (I'll get them all someday...maybe), the plan was to skip them in BotW...BUT THEY TIE THEM TO THE DAMN INVENTORY! Terrible collectibles are annoying, terrible collectibles central to critical upgrades are atrocious, as I would want max inventory slots (thanks to their also shit durability system).Need damn near 500 (that's twice as much as way too many) of the fuckers, takes almost 100 hours for just that. BOO! BOO I SAY! As mostly great as BotW was, it's one of the most bafflingly bad game design decisions in recent memory, if not ever.

You need less than half the korok seeds to max everything, even then, who needs 20 shields? Yep, we're doing this again.
