" It seems like AEW might not have learned from a past mistake made by WWE when it comes to its website and its accessibility for people with disabilities. AEW is now facing a similar lawsuit that WWE had to settle a few years ago, one based on the fact that their AEW Shop website isn't accessible for someone who is legally blind.
A class-action lawsuit has been filed on May 4th, and alleges that All Elite Wrestling, LLC has denied equal access to the AEW Shop website. In much the same way WWE was accused of doing so, Plaintiff Luigi Abreu claims that AEW has violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by not having a way for a visually impaired and/or legally blind person to use screen-reading software to read the website content. Allegedly, the plaintiff tried to purchase items from the AEW site in April and could not (or at least had trouble.) He wants a jury trial, as per the report.
It's not clear how much WWE paid to make their lawsuit disappear, but in 2020, they did settle out of court. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. For AEW, it's unlikely they will challenge this, especially if the past precedent is to settle this, fix the site, and move on.
As for Abreu, it's not clear if he really felt discriminated against or was just smart enough to see an opportunity and is going after a quick payday. "

I would have thought being blind was the best way to watch AEW, but even this is absolutely ridiculous.
Instead, email the company.. explain the process of accessing the site as a blind person.. instead of going legal.

I honestly don't care about this lawsuit thing, but NATH45 with a Line of the Year candidate. I would have thought being blind was the best way to watch AEW, but even this is absolutely ridiculous. I'm saying this as a fan of AEW.

US law takes this shit very seriously. Except for the 2008 decision that our paper money needed to be changed during the next redesign cycle to accommodate the blind. That happened under Trump and he just cancelled redesigning our cash at all.

As a person that used to go to TNA PPVs all the time, this is nothing new to me. People used to pretend to be disabled to get access to seats for handicapped people.

People actively shop around for Doctors for the right diagnosis so they don't have to work, so I shouldn't be surprised.

For those who do not know how this scam works, people like Luigi Abreu, Denette Ligon, Aretha Crosson, Sam Wilson, and Michelle Tenzer-Fuchs are paid to be litigants. The lawyers representing them hire them, to them file mass lawsuits. As in hundreds. Then when it is court time, they go in testify they could not use the service due to their condition, albeit, blind, def, autistic, mentally ill, low mobility, ect. Companies then usually settle out of court and lawyers can take the cash as the court offering is less of an expense to companies to properly defend an ADA lawsuit. The litigants then get a small parentage of the cash. Eventually, they will get labeled vexing litigants, of those who file suits without good cause or with malice, and the law firms replace them. Abreu has at least 50 open suits this year alone. Combine the people I mentioned above, with Domingo Pascual, Christian Sanchez, Edwin Diaz, Shael Cruz, Leshawn Dawson, Josue Romero, Jose Figueroa, Debra Zanca, Owen Harty, Deborah Laufer, and Saim Sarwar, and it is estimated this group of lawyers have filed tens of thousands of suits nationally. Since few go to decision, they are cheap to file with a steady payout as it is easy to make early rulings on merits. ADA laws are almost always violated in these cases, so these suits all have merit. www.barclaydamon.com/alerts/ada-accessibility-lawsuits-several-new-tester-plaintiffsluigi-abreu-denette-ligon-aretha-crosson-sam-wilson-and-michelle-tenzer-fuchstargeting-businesses-in-recent-flurry-of-federal-lawsuihttps://www.americanbar.org/groups/law_practice/publications/law_practice_magazine/2022/jf22/vu-launey-egan/#:~:text=In%202020%2C%20over%2085%20percent,consistently%20exceed%2010%2C000%20lawsuits%20annually
And this scam with US tort laws is perfectly legal. They bring in professional litigants with TV ads and once they get the first suit filed, encourage them to sue others for similar violations. Being lawyers they never detail out what they are doing on record anywhere, so using the LETTER of the US law they are doing nothing wrong. They rape the spirit of the law, but in the US the letter of the law matters more than the spirit as our supreme court is most textualists. Also the US is able to operate by ignoring costly aspects in laws like the ADA and just settling lawsuits like these. Same is seen in police brutality laws, consumer protection laws, educational equality and other areas. It is cheaper to ignore the law and pay the lawsuits, then operate legally. These lawsuits become fees for doing things the cheaper way.
