Addiction is the only disease you can cure just by changing your mind? True or False. I just finished a book about a recovered skinhead who in some ways reminded me of the whole Cyntoia Brown case. He was raised under crap circumstances and had access to drugs. Which always seems to be a 1, 2 punch. Put an abused kid in front of a pile of drugs and they will do them. And do them he did. And then he got wrapped up in crime and violence and trouble but at the end of the book when he was doing good, had a seemingly good life he was still doing drugs. He went to rehab multiple times. He was on methadone etc. He still did drugs but the end of the book, the one thing got him to stop using was him. He changed his mind and that is what got him to stop. wiki on the guy the book was written about. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Meeinkthere was a video I saw a while ago that said that everything we know about addiction is wrong. www.ted.com/talks/johann_hari_everything_you_think_you_know_about_addiction_is_wrongHere is the nutshell version

Unless you're a crack baby, you're not born with a drinking problem, or a taste for meth. Addicts and addiction are a product of one's influence and environment. I don't know, it's hard for me to empathise with a drug addict, because I'm not one. But I think that Ted Talk nails it.
