Goliath vs Goliath
Former World Heavyweight Champion WALTER was not amused at the way he lost to Jay White. The furious WALTER rampaged backstage, displaying a rage unlike which had ever been seen before, demanding an immediate rematch. Despite his terrifying presence, management did not back down. Rules are rules: anyone who loses a championship match goes to the back of the line.
WALTER was not seen for weeks after Ultimate Battle. It was speculated that he was gone for good, but an unexpected rival grabbed his attention.
The week after Ultimate Battle, a hot young prospect called Wardlow debuted. He demolished the local competition, winning the crowd over with his dominating victories and the use of multiple powerbombs in sequence to earn victory. After his third consecutive victory, Wardlow had his hand raised, WALTER quietly emerged on the ramp. His music did not hit, so it took a few moments for the audience to notice, but as soon as they did, the reaction grew tremendously for the former champion.
Wardlow soon noticed something was amiss, and turned to face the ramp, to face the man who would be his next opponent. WALTER calmly entered the ring and offered a handshake. Wardlow seemed puzzled, but after a few moments of thought, grabbed his hand. The men respectfully shook hands. WALTER turned away and walked where he came from, not once looking back.
Following the amicable confrontation, WALTER was questioned backstage. "I am not satisfied with the level of competition here, so I had no reason to fight. It sounds like an excuse, but if a man is allowed to win a championship match with illegal tactics without consequence, then maybe this is not the right place for me. But I've had some time to clear my mind. Now I turn on my TV and see a impressive young man who has a lot of potential. He is competition. I must admit, it's not completely business. I am offended at this man's use of the powerbomb. I am the master of the powerbomb, and he uses it like a joke. He is strong, but not strong enough. I will show him true strength."Separate Ways
Despite their best efforts, the reformed team of KENTA and Shibata were unable to capture the tag team championships. Their friendship was not fractured by the defeat but, nevertheless, external circumstances caused them to go their separate ways. At least for now.
The arrival of long-retired star CM Punk caused a grit stir among both the fans and the roster. After much anticipation, the legend made his way to the ring and spoke his first words as an active wrestler of the pro-wrestling industry in a very long time. It was a positive speech, expressing gratitude to the fans for their patience, mentioning some past regrets and mistakes. His words also addressed the future. Despite a long absence, CM Punk still thinks he can become the best wrestler in the world. In order to do that, he needs to wrestle.
"And who should my first opponent be?"
Punk pauses to gauge the fan reaction. Amongst the cheers there is a faint chant, that sounds suspiciously like "Go To Sleep".
"How about Jay White? The brand new World Champion! Nah nah nah. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to face Jay White, but I know how things work around here. I can't just stroll in like I own the place and expect to face the champion. I need to get some wins under my belt. Who else?"
The "Go To Sleep" chants increase in volume.
"The legend, Jumbo Tsuruta? I'd love to wrestle Jumbo. I know he's on a bit of a losing streak recently, and wrestling me certainly won't help with that, but that's a cool match, right?"
The fans cheer in response. An audible cry of "Britt Baker!" bursts through the noise. Punk turns towards the mischievous man and laughs.
"The dentist? Ha ha ha. Let's not go there."
Punk pauses for a long time, letting the fans voice their thoughts. The fans quieten down, then the "Go To Sleep" chants start to increase in volume. Punk gestures to, at last, acknowledge the voices, and prepares to speak once more. But before he can, KENTA's music blasts through the arena, but his theme is soon drowned out by the ovation.
KENTA is here! He takes his time walking to the ring. He steps between the ropes, and as the music fades out, Punk speaks.
"Oh, hey KENTA! I was just getting to you. Seriously! I was goi-"
KENTA snatches the microphone from Punk's hands to a tumultuous crowd response. KENTA's English isn't perfect, but it's strong enough to deliver his message.
"CM Punk. I have waited a long time for you. I am not waiting any more. You are not going to fight anyone else before you fight me. Fight me. Fight me now."
As KENTA spoke, the smile withered from Punk's face. CM Punk earnestly nodded his head, gave a bow, and extended the hand, mouthing "I accept". Both men shook hands, the match was set.
-------------------------------------------
What about KENTA's partner, Katsuyori Shibata?
After an altercation backstage, old rivals Katsuyori Shibata and Tomohiro Ishii ignited an old flame. It only takes a small spark to set either man off, and once the flame is burning, it won't die until they are in the squared circle, and the bell rings.
Let's not forget that, not long after Shibata's return to NJPW in 2012, it was a G1 Climax match with Tomohiro Ishii that helped re-establish Shibata as a force to be reckoned with among the fans and his fellow wrestlers. If Shibata is not yet at full strength, Ishii is exactly the wrestler to bring it out of him.Dissention in the Ranks
The monumental mixed tag team match pitting Minoru Suzuki and Asuka against Zack Sabre Jr. and Serena Deeb certainly ended in controversy. What as billed as a friendly contest became tense very quickly, as the Suzuki-Gun warriors were not shy to take out their frustrations on one another, while the two female newcomers were just as violent, wanting to prove themselves in a new environment. We even saw Asuka and Zack Sabre Jr. mix it up, Asuka getting the better of that exchange with her forceful kicks, sending Zack scurrying out of the ring. Perhaps it was this ego-damaging moment that motivated Zack to do what he did at the end of the match.
Serena Deeb and Asuka were engaged in a heated struggle, trading strikes and holds, neither woman able to gain a consistent edge. The battle turned to rollups, with frequent pinfall exchanges and transitions nearly exhausting the referee. Locked in a mutual small package, the combatants rolled towards the corner. Zack Sabre Jr, who was brawling with Suzuki on the floor, took an opportunity to hop on the apron and tap Deeb's back to tag himself in. He then mercilessly twisted Asuka's right arm, transitioning into a tight rollup to score the decisive pinfall, moments before Suzuki could break it up.
The match was over, Sabre Jr. and Deeb the victors, but matters clearly were not settled. Suzuki and Asuka immediately got in Zack's face. Deeb took Zack's side, and suddenly both teams were ready to battle again, officials having to separate them.
It was soon decided that Zack Sabre Jr. and Minoru Suzuki would, at long last, do battle, one against one. The leader of Suzuki-gun against the crown jewel of the group. Suzuki expressed his dislike of the rollup pinfalls that led Zack to so many victories. Both participants happily agreed to a submission only match, wagering on the strength of their technical ability, and their inability to be submitted.
The mixed tag team match also featuring Zack Sabre Jr. and Minoru Suzuki created significant tension between Asuka and Serena Deeb, and the controversial conclusion to that match certainly didn't settle anything. However both ladies had to cast that aside, as they both participated in a mini-tournament, also featuring IWGP runners up Charlotte Flair and Britt Baker, to decide a contender for Ronda Rousey's championship.
In the semi-finals Asuka was drawn against Baker, and Deeb against Flair. Perhaps motivated by their desire to fight one another, in addition to champipnship glory, both Asuka and Deeb emerged victorious. The final was a hard fought yet controversial contest in which Asuka emerged victorious, earning a chance to fight Ronda Rousey.
The arrival of Asuka and Serena Deeb certainly shook up the women's division. Within weeks of their arrival, Asuka earned a shot at Ronda Rousey's World Women's Championship, while Serena Deeb became embroiled in an intense rivalry with Doctor Britt Baker D.M.D.
It all began when Deeb defeated Baker in the semi-finals of the #1 Contender's Tournament. Baker was visibly frustrated, having come up short of championship glory twice, including her IWGP Finals defeat to Ronda Rousey. Baker made her presence felt during the finals contested by Deeb and Asuka, her interference arguably costing Deeb the match. Once the match was over, Baker taunted Deeb as she sauntered to the back.
Naturally, Deeb was not going to let that go, and soon both ladies were at each's others throats every chance they could get: in the ring, at ringside, backstage, and even in the parking lot. It was soon decided that the only way to settle their differences would be a No Disqualification match.
-------------------------------------------
With Baker and Deeb out of the picture, it remained an open question to determine the next challenger for the World Women's Championship. The four wrestlers in question: Thunder Rosa, Meiko Satomura, Charlotte Flair, and Bull Nakano, had competed in various singles matches with each other recently, and the chairman determined that another single elimination tourmament would be "too routine". The final decision was a Fatal Four Way match: first pinfall or submission wins.
The unusual stipulation will certainly be challenge for the ladies: only Charlotte Flair has had any previous experience in multi-woman matches
On paper, a huge mismatch, but Yano earned his nickname "The Sublime Master Thief" due to his ability to defeat anybody at any time with his arsenal of tricks. A rulebreaker at heart, yet his comedic ways of manipulating the referee, achieving rollups, and using foreign objects has earned him the admiration of his fans, and has frustrated many opponents.
The wild, unruly Stan Hansen will be wilder and angrier than normal, having dropped significantly in the rankings. Will Toru Yano be able to exploit this, or will Hansen's rage be too much for Yano to handle?

A new King sits on the Throne
He needed a covert low blow to do the job, but nevertheless, the still undefeated Jay White shockingly dethroned WALTER to become the brand new World Heavyweight Champion. WALTER lobbied for an immediate rematch, but the company is firm that anybody who loses a title match goes to the back of the line. No rematch clauses.
The newly crowned champion had a lengthy self-indulgent celebration, which went off without a hitch. However, on the same night White won the gold, his next challenger was already confirmed. It wasn't long before top contender Will Ospreay announced his intention to challenge at World Wrestling War.
"Jay White, we're no strangers to one another. We've battled before. You've defeated me, multiple times. But you see, back then I was a different wrestler. I was a Junior Heavyweight. Don't get me wrong, I was the best Junior Heavyweight in the world, but I still had a long way to go to compete with the best Heayvweight wrestlers in the world. I was weak. I didn't have the strength of the killer instinct that I do now. Even back then, I was amazing, but there was something missing.
When I left Okada, when I left CHAOS to formed the United Empire, I found my true calling as a wrestler. You were hiding in the USA during the pandemic, I was king of the mountain. I was the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Unfortunately, I've had a few setbacks since then, none of which were my own fault, but that's alright. The Commonwealth Kingpin is returning to the top. I bludgeoned Kenta Kobashi with my Hidden Blade to earn this match, and I'm going to do exactly the same to you. You have no idea what's coming.
The World Heavyweight Champion had this to say in response.
"Bravo, Willy Boy. Nice speech. And you're right about many things. You're right that I've defeated you, multiple times, and that's not going to change. But speaking of change, you're right, you have changed. It's very interesting you bring that up, because I want to take a look at that in more detail.
You betrayed Okada in the final round of the G1 Climax, shocking the world! Guess what? I betrayed Okada too, and I did it better. Not only did I betray Okada, I took Gedo from Okada, his best friend. Score one for Jay White. What's next? Oh, yes! What did you do after betraying Okada? You created a group. The United Empire! Your first member: Great O'Khan! A young lion who thinks he's a zombie demon. Incredible! You know where I'm going with this, right? I became the LEADER of the BULLET CLUB! And in case you missed the memo, Bullet Club has been the greatest faction in pro-wrestling for nearly a decade. Score two for Jay White.
The United Empire is a second rate Bullet Club. And you, Will Ospreay, are a second rate Jay White. You did everything I did, but you did it second, and you did it worse. Remember that when you step into the ring with me. Remember that when you're laying on your back after I pin you one, two, three. Remember that when you breathe with the Switchblade."

World Tag Team Champions Jeff Cobb and Great O'Khan, representing The United Empire, have proven themselves to be an unconquerable duo. While the United Empire leader Will Ospreay hopes to add more gold to the group by dethroning Jay White, a new pair of challengers will try to wrest tag team gold from the champions.
Kenta Kobashi and Jumbo Tsuruta fought at Clash of the Champions, Kobashi the victor, but both suffered painful defeats at Ultimate Battle. Both men needed to regroup and decided to team up, reasoning that they would be stronger united than separated. This certainly proved true as they quickly rose through the tag team ranks, earning a title opportunity.
